Opis:
The study analyses the efficiency of a Solar Water Heating (SWH) system, potential financial savings and investment profitability. The analysis pertaining to the amount of energy generated by the collectors had been performed for the multi-family building within the span of two years. The efficiency of the system was determined by comparing the amount of energy from solar radiation incident on the surface of the collectors to the amount of energy generated by the collectors and fed to the existing Domestic Hot Water (DHW) system. The amount of energy generated by the collectors was approx. 70 GJ per year, at the efficiency of the SWH system equalling 36%. The best time for the operation of the system was the period from April to September, during which the share of generated for DHW amounted to 78%. It is reflected in the decreased consumption of gas by 6% throughout the year. Furthermore, based on the data about the efficiency and energy yield of the set of collectors, as well as data on insolation, the analysis was performed to determine the installation and operation costs and the depreciation period of the investigated SWH system.

Opis:
The pressing need for reducing the global warming effects from the emission of greenhouse gases necessitates the use of renewable energy where possible. Solar distillers are devices with a promising future. In this work, an experimental setup (solar distiller) was constructed and equipped with a mirror, basin, glass cover, compressor, sensors and controllers to study the partial evacuation effects on different solar distillation parameters and the production capacity under the Jordanian climate. The test rig was tested for three different water levels (1, 2 and 3 cm), and four pressure values (1, 0.9, 0.8 and 0.7 atm) under the Jordanian climate. The detailed experimental results strongly correlate with the results previously published in literature. The modifications performed on the system doubled the previously attained efficiency. These improvements in the solar distiller will favor the application of the vacuum pressure principle in many different applications, such as the water extraction from the atmospheric air.

Opis:
Waters provide essential needs both for human societies as well as natural ecosystems. Floating solar PV (FPV) applications on water bodies are currently in strong demand worldwide. Floating solar PV system is a new concept in renewable energy with the solar plants by harnessing available water surface, such in dams, lakes, and other water bodies. Although the floating solar PV industry is becoming more and more popular, the study on the biological, chemical, and physical properties effects of using FPV cover on natural water coverage – especially in tropical countries – has not been widely carried out yet. This paper aimed to evaluate the effect of floating solar PV on temperature, DO (dissolved oxygen), TDS (total dissolved solids), total phosphorus concentration, and chlorophyll-a concentration using mesocosm experiments to understand the biological, chemical, and physical process under closed environment. The experiment was conducted in a natural water body, Mahoni Lake, in which a total amount of 7 water samples were collected from each mesocosms. The results show that the floating solar PV reduces the average temperature, DO, conductivity, TDS, and chlorophyll-a concentration changes (p-value < 0.05); and the floating solar PV does not directly reduce the average total phosphorus concentration due to high probability of thermal stratification (p-value > 0.05).

Opis:
Mankind’s misgivings caused by the depletion of fossil fuels have accelerated research on obtaining energy from unconventional sources. One such source is the Sun. The present article reviews the possibility of using solar energy, converted in batteries of photovoltaic cells into electricity, in agriculture and farming. It should also be emphasized that it is energy friendly to the environment, whose acquisition on agricultural land, which often lacks access to the power grid, is now legitimate and profitable. This study presents the results of computer simulations in tabular and graphical form, using the PVSYST program, for a pasture water pumping system for watering grazing cattle.

Opis:
A smart cooling system to control the ambient temperature of a premise in Amman, Jordan, is investigated and implemented. The premise holds 650 people and has 14 air conditioners with the cooling capacity ranging from 3 to 5 ton refrigerant (TR) each. The control of the cooling system includes implementing different electronics circuits that are used to sense the ambient temperature and humidity, count the number of people in the premise and then turn ON/OFF certain air conditioner(s). The data collected by different electronic circuits are fed wirelessly to a microcontroller, which decides which air conditioner will be turned ON/OFF, its location and its desired set cooling temperature. The cooling system is integrated with an on-grid solar photovoltaic energy system to minimize the operational cost of the overall cooling system.
