Opis:
Different compounds including toxic heavy metals ions have been used in various industrial branches for ages. Therefore, these compounds are nowadays often identified in the natural environment. Plants usually function like indirect transporters through which heavy metals, in the form of ions, infiltrate from the environment into the human and animals’ food chains. The present paper studied the influence of urban agglomeration on the accumulation of certain heavy metals in tansy. The content of heavy metals ions (Cr, Ni, Cd and Pb) was marked in the tansy leaves. Depending on the location of sampling, large variations in the heavy metal content were observed in the plant material. The research results indicate that the heavy metal content of tansy is influenced by the close “neighborhood” of a well-developed urban agglomeration such as patrol stations and factories.

Opis:
Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare L.) grows in moderate area of the northern hemisphere, in Poland – its range covers the whole country. It appears on the farm wastelands, by roadsides, on enbankments, river banks, forest lips and in open spaces. The present paper has faced the challenge of defining the influence of the environmental conditions on the mineral composition of Tanacetum vulgare leaves. The plants were picked in the blooming period from May to September 2017 in 12 natural environments of their growth and at different contamination levels. The dried and minced plant material was submitted to chemical analyses of the bio elements content (K, P, Cu, Zn, Mo) of leaves. A great variety was observed when speaking in terms of particular elements content in dependence on the position. In all tests, significant quantities of K and P were found. The study results point at the very fact that the mineral composition of Tanacetum vulgare leaves is influenced by the environmental contamination, caused by the nearby "neighbourhood" of circulation areas of high traffic volume, factories or patrol stations.

Opis:
Expansion of invasive species can be clearly seen all over Poland. Foreign tree and herbaceous plant species are effectively taking over more and more habitats competing with native vegetation. This phenomenon is strongly pronounced in the areas subject to strong anthropogenic pressure. The presence of invasive plants replacing the native vegetation is a threat for biodiversity and ecological balance. The research carried out by the authors between 2011 and 2017 on selected sites (comparatively: urban and open spaces, including a 600 ha park and a 10 km long forest strip along a river) confirms the pressure exerted by invasive species irrespective of the natural conditions of a particular site or its type – in each case it is most prominent in areas where vegetation is not properly maintained or where it is not maintained at all. The research was based on the dendrological inventories and phytosociological assessments. The inventories were used for a detailed assessment of both the condition and structure of treestands, including accounting for invasive species. Phytosociological assessment can, among others, form a basis for forecasting ecological stability of individual plant communities. Uncontrolled expansion of invasive species, especially in the areas of strong anthropogenic pressure, may cause unfavourable natural succession and in consequence – destabilisation of ecological system in a given area.

Opis:
The aim of this paper was to evaluate the influence of anthropogenic pollution on the water quality of the Ciemięga River, which flows through the Jastków commune, located in the Lublin Province in the South-Eastern Poland. The analyses of the river water were conducted in the years 2019–2020. Each year, the samples for physicochemical analyses were collected seasonally (in February, May, August and November) from the seven selected Ciemięga River sampling points found in the following localities: Ożarów, Moszenki, Sieprawice, Jastków, Snopków and Jakubowice Konińskie. In addition, 3 series of microbiological analysis were conducted in 2020. Electrolytic conductivity, total phosphorus, nitrate-nitrogen and sulfates constituted the physicochemical indicators of poor water quality in the river. Their average values exceeded the standards for the 2nd class of water quality. High concentration of these indicators, especially of the total phosphorus, could have been related to the influx of domestic wastewater from agricultural holdings, wastewater flows from agricultural areas as well as soil erosion and leaching. The levels of E. coli bacteria and fecal coliform allocated the Ciemięga River waters to the 4th class of water quality and could result from domestic wastewater flow to the river. In order to improve the water quality of the Ciemięga River, it is necessary to reduce or eliminate point and non-point sources of pollution by means of streamlining of the agricultural areas fertilization, regulating the water and wastewater management, regulating of the waste management, as well as the appropriate spatial policy and landscaping of the water catchment areas.

W artykule przedstawiono charakterystykę hydrograficzno - hydrochemiczną antropogenicznych mokradeł rozwiniętych w starych piaskowniach. Wykazano, że wyrobiska po eksploatacji piasku podlegają spontanicznym procesom sukcesji prowadzącym do rozwoju antropogenicznych mokradeł. W początkowym okresie, dominującą rolę w zasilaniu mokradeł odgrywają wody podziemne. Dlatego też wody mokradeł inicjalnych cechuje wodorowęglanowowapniowy (HCO3- - Ca2+) typ wód i obojętny lub słabo alkaliczny odczyn. W późniejszych fazach sukcesji dominującą rolę w zasilaniu zaczynają odgrywać wody opadowe. Dlatego też mineralizacja malej a wody ulegają zakwaszeniu. Następuje zmiana typu hydrochemicznego na siarczanowo-wapniowy (SO42- - Ca2+).
It was revealed that new wetlands are characterized by low mineralization and neutral pH of waters. Waters of older wetlands have lower mineralization and acid pH. It is associated with different types of wetlands. Wetlands in initial phases of succession are mainly supplied with underground waters. In further phase supply of precipitation waters it starts to dominate.

The work evaluates the effect of anthropogenic pollutants on the quality of water in Lake Bialskie (51º32’07” N 23º00’55” E) and its catchment basin. Samples of water were taken from the lake (4 sampling points) and from wells dug within the catchment basin. The quality of water was analysed in May, June, August and November 2015. In the wells only in single cases was the level of chemical pollution found to exceed drinking water standards. However, in all samples the standard content of manganese was exceeded. In waters from the lake the concentrations of total phosphorus, which can contribute to eutrophication were recorded above the standard level. Both in waters from the lake and from the well a large count of meso- and psychrophiles and Coli and faecal coliforms as well as faecal Enterococci was found, which points to a high degree of contamination of the analysed waters with anthropogenic faeces. The phenomenon was observed to intensify in summer months, which can be associated with increased tourist traffic around the lake in this period.

The aim of the paper was the identification and assessment of the area of anthropogenic impacts on water quality in the catchment of the Korzkiewka stream flowing through the areas of the Malopolska region. Analyses of physicochemical indices revealed that waters along the whole length of the stream qualified for below good status due to the exceeded EC and nitrate nitrogen concentrations. It was found that among 21 analyzed physicochemical indices, statistically significant differences occurred for 5: total dissolved solids, SO42-., Mg2+, K+ and water pH. In the headwaters section values of four salinity indices were significantly higher in relation to the other part of the stream. Assessment of anthropogenic factors affecting the catchment water resources conducted on the basis of unitary and percent indices revealed that the dominant category shaping the physicochemical status of the Korzkiewka stream water is municipal economy. The intensity of the influence of the factors from this category was from medium to very high, while in case of sewage discharged through the sewage network, even to outlier intensity. Forestry and agriculture exerted medium pressure, whereas the factors from the industry category had hardly any influence on water in the stream.

The paper aims at presentation of the effect of changes in the catchment area management on the value of water quality physicochemical indices along the length of the Iwoniczanka stream, which flows through Iwonicz-Zdrój, one of the oldest health resorts in Poland. Analyses of 14 water quality indices were conducted from November 2013 to May 2014 in five measurement points: two situated in the upper course of the stream – in forest areas, two located in the area of Iwonicz-Zdrój town, and one below the rural built-up area. On the basis of the conducted data analysis it was found that the mean values of pH, electrolytic conductivity, sulphates, calcium, total iron and manganese were increasing with the course of flowing water, as evidenced by the water enrichment in substances which had their sources in built-up areas. On average, the highest values of biogenic indices and chlorides but the lowest values of oxygen indices were registered immediately below the location of drain collector from the closed sewage treatment plant, which resulted in pollution of the analysed stream bed with the substances previously drained from the treatment plant. Water flowing through the forest areas had the maximum ecological potential in the built-up areas and due to phosphate concentrations it was classified to class II and then, due to self-purification, returned to the physicochemical parameters appropriate for class I water. The conducted hydro-chemical tests confirmed a significant negative effect of built-up areas on the quality of the flowing waters.

The aim of the conducted research was to determine the mercury content in the upper layers of soil taken from the areas with various impact of anthropogenic pressure. The article presents the content of mercury in the top layers of soils from selected areas of two districts of Warsaw, ie Ursynów and Mokotów. These areas are heavily influenced by the human activity. For comparison, a soil sample was also taken from the area of the Solska Forest, which is an example of an area with a negligible impact of anthropogenic pressure. The mercury content in the analyzed soil samples taken from the area of Warsaw ranged from 0.0334 mg·kg-1 to 0.4004 mg·kg-1 in Ursynów, while the soils from the Mokotów area contained from 0.2320 mg·kg-1 to 1.3098 mg·kg-1. For comparison, the sample from the Solska Forest area contained 0.2544 mg Hg·kg-1. In order to avoid uncontrolled re-emission and, as a consequence, possible accumulation of this element in the environment, it is necessary to continue monitoring the level of mercury pollution, among others, in soil.

Specific conditions in urban areas favour large species richness, these are also places prone to the anthropogenic pressure. As a result, many studies on aquatic habitats in urban ecosystems have been carried out. The aim of this study was to investigate the diversity of diatom assemblages developing in artificial environment in relation to water chemical parameters. The study was performed on a small water outflow in south-eastern Poland, which started in the storm sewage. The water at the studied sites was characterized by alkaline pH and low content of nutrients. The values of other chemical parameters were highly variable, depending on the research season. A total of 113 taxa were identified in five research seasons; most of them prefer circumneutral and fertile habitats, with a high content of biogens and are tolerant to water pollutions. Aerophytic and terrestrial taxa were observed in the analyzed materials in high diversity.

More specifically, it is located in the northern part of the Central Coal Region, between the Puchaczów-Urszulin route and the route leading through the village of Szczecin, which the investigated inundated area is named after, and between the town of Dratów and the ”Bogdanka” Hard Coal Mine. The Lublin Upland, with the Lublin Coal Basin located in its centre, has one of the most valuable natural environments in Poland. There are many reserves, Poleski National Park and Natura 2000 area. The process of the intensive hard coal exploitation makes subsidence of surface as its result. The process of basin subsidence is irreversible. This paper deals with the problem of forming an anthropogenic water reservoir and its development in compliance with the policy of sustainable development and biodiversity maintenance in the face of heavy hard coal exploitation. It is suggested to use fluorides ground water to organize a health resort based on water reservoir and the described natural environment.

Ranggeh River is one of the inlets of Lake Maninjau (West Sumatra, Indonesia), which has a vital role in supporting the life of native fish. Increasing anthropogenic activities (agriculture and human settlements) around the river can harm benthic macroinvertebrates as natural food for fish. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze and observe water quality changes and their impact on the benthic macroinvertebrate communities in the Ranggeh River. Sampling was conducted from February to August 2019 using the Hess Sampler tool. The results indicate that the anthropogenic impacts around the Ranggeh River on water quality has changed the macroinvertebrate benthic community structures (composition, abundance, and biological index). Furthermore, the Ephemeroptera Plecoptera and Trichoptera (EPT) number of taxa index were superior in reflecting disturbances in the Ranggeh River compared to the Family Biotic Index (FBI) and the Percent Model Affinity (PMA). In conclusion, the anthropogenic effect on the macroinvertebrate community in the Ranggeh River prominently was caused by habitat changes rather than enrichment by nutrients (TN and TP).

Data from Database of Topographic Objects in nominal scale 1:10 000 (in short: BDOT10k) in GML format were used as source materials and processing of the source data to object-relational form of SpatialLite database was performed. Methods of areas classification and valorization on the basis of land coverage diversity were used in the research after using modification of classes selection to BDOT10k. Borders of spatial objects had geo-referential precision to 3 m and were not subjected to generalization process. It provided possibility to achieve high degree of credibility of calculated parameters. Materials that concern ecological corridors were obtained from the General Directorate for Environmental Protection by means of WFS service. Geoprocessing methods and spatial connections in GIS heterogenic systems were used to perform analyses. The effects of all the conducted analyses allowed to identify problem fields where areas of ecological corridors became strongly anthropogenized. The results were presented as multilayered compositions and cartograms. The research area covered 15,200 km2 and ranged the territory of Małopolska province.

The area of naturally saline lands in Russia is approximately 30 million hectares. Currently, the growth of anthropogenic saline areas is associated with the extraction of minerals (agricultural ore) and the formation of drilling pits when drilling wells for the exploration and extraction of hydrocarbons. The number of drilling pits with high salt content in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug is about 3 thousand. About the same number of them is found in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. In the south of the Tyumen region, their number is increasing in the Uvat district. Reclamation of these areas includes the technical and biological phases of reclamation. The biological stage involves the use of phytomeliorant crops. Inclusion of the legume component in phytomeliorants implies its joint use with a preparation of active strain of nodule bacteria. The aim of the research was to identify the most salt-tolerant strain of lupine nodule bacteria under different chemistry and degree of salinity of the environment. In order to test lupine rhizobia for salt tolerance and salinity chemistry, laboratory experiments were set up in petri dishes. Lupine rhizobia strains 363a, 367a, and 375a were taken directly from the rhizotorphin preparations, and the degree of dilution was brought to a certain titer corresponding to about 80 colonies per Petri dish. The presented results of the experiments showed that the colonies of lupine rhizobia react extremely negatively to the concentration of salts in the nutrient medium of 0.3% or higher. This is true for both neutral and sodium salinity. Out of the three strains of rhizobia studied, sample 367a was the most salt tolerant. Strains 363a and 375a were less resistant to salinization. For the first time, strains of lupine rhizobia were tested for salt tolerance in relation to different chemistry and degree of salinity identical to anthropogenic soils and saline soils.

Often the total amount of dust emissions may exceed the estimated figure for maximum permissible emissions, but their share transferred in sanitary protection zone of dust is negligible. Tailing dump of Kovdor MPE is one of the largest in Russia. The construction of dust dispersion halos was performed using a universal program calculation of air pollution “Ecolog” (Russia). Based on a comparison of dispersed compositions tails similar in composition tailing dumps in Russia, it can be concluded that in the beach area of the Kovdor dump share of dust tranfered to the territory of settlements has ranged from 10 to 40%. It was found that the maximum diameter of the particles carried by the territory of the city under consideration is 50 microns. We can conclude that under the conditions of the object the development of special devices for dust suppression is required.
