Opis:
A smoothing algorithm is applied to differentiation-gathered velocities from full-scale turning test results. It produces with enough accuracy a clear picture of resultant forces acting during the turning maneuver and thus enables a direct and proper parameters identification in ship motion equations. Obtained results necessitate making a better focus in the future upon a rudder force model.

Opis:
A compact and practical mathematical model of the anchor-related manoeuvring forces is developed. The most useful and original are non-dimensional lookup tables of the anchor cable horizontal tension, which are valid for any geometrical relationship between the ship hawse-pipe and the anchor itself. The anchor and/or cable failure aspects due to an excessive ship anchoring velocity are also raised.

Opis:
The ship manoeuvring dynamics consists of surge, sway, and yaw differential equations (coupled mutually with each other). a basic principle of the proposed manoeuvring model identification algorithm is that both sway and yaw equations may directly assimilate, instead of the motions derived from other one or two equations, the corresponding sea trial data. Under such conditions, the evaluated hull and rudder sub-models are more adequate and less ambiguous. An approach has been made also to compose the hull hydrodynamics from turning tests, while z-tests refine the rudder related model parameters. The obtained final manoeuvring prediction is excellent.

In this paper there is undertaken an attempt to present the formal description of the ship’s navigation process. This formal description takes into account not only all the most important ship’s characteristics that influence the ship’s motion but also all the most important environmental characteristics influencing the ship’s behaviour at sea. The formal description comprises the following issues: ship’s navigation process, navigational information, dynamic of the ship’s motion, equations describing the ship’s navigation process, and mathematical models of ship’s navigation process.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to derive a mathematical model for estimating the wind forces and wind moments effects a life raft. The mathematical model based on data from laboratory experiments. Forces due to the action of wind are adequately described. The governing physical equations, however, contain characteristics of the environment that are often not well quantified. In the strong wind condition, when the wind speed is much larger than the current and body speeds, all wind-generated forces must be taken into account. Friction and pressure forces exerted by the wind on the upper part of the floating body result in the wind force, which has a downwind component (drag) and a crosswind component (side force or lift), [1][2]. The drag component is always positive. The side force or lift component can be positive or negative[8]. The lift depends on the wind speed, body geometry, and strongly on the angle between the long axis of the floating body and the wind direction. In this paper the author presents models of wind forces acting at a life raft. Data from laboratory experiments (wind tunnel [5]) are used to build dynamical models.

The Bezier curve is used as a basis of zig-zag data approximation. It improves an estimate of external excitations acting during such a type of maneuver. In addition to the previous report about a turning test modeling, this makes available most of the existing full-scale trial results for the force-based identification of ship maneuvering mathematical model.

Opis:
Problems of vessel traffic organization in approach channels are solved by Vessel Traffic Management Services (VTMS). One essential task for VTMS is to ensure a required level of traffic safety. As often vessel traffic is intensive, attempts are made to optimize it. This author aims to find a relevant solution based on a mathematical model, in which vessel speeds at particular fairway sections are varied. The model belongs to the class of mixed integer linear programming. The branch-and-bound method has been adapted to the proposed solution of the problem. The results are shown in tables, while certain aspects of solutions are illustrated graphically.
