Water Framework Directive
Opis:
Water supply and sewerage infrastructure, which characterizes a particular territorial unit, is one of the key elements of its economic development. The sustainability index of water and sewage management system of the specific area, for which the total lengths of both water supply system and sewerage system are similar as it can be clearly seen, looking at the urban units of the Krakow Metropolitan Area, is absolutely vital. The apparent disparity between the lengths of both the water supply system and sewage system in the urban-rural and rural communes with a particularly significant shortage of sewerage infrastructure was shown. This proves the unsustainability of water and sewage management system in the area. A significant improvement in the condition of infrastructure in the analysed decade should be noted. This is clearly linked with the main objective of the Water Framework Directive and the subsequent participation of the analyzed area of KMA in the EU funds and other aid programs which aim at achieving a good level of water by 2015.

Opis:
This paper examines the changes in stocks of water in clay soils against precipitation and changes in the groundwater table. The study was conducted during the summer period (May-September) in 2001 and 2002. According to the Kaczorowska` s criteria (1962) the year 2001 was very wet, and the 2002 – average. In 2001, ground water table was at a depth of 0 to 190 cm below ground surface level, and in 2002, from 50 cm to 150 cm below the surface. Water storages in the root zone (0-35 cm) developed in 2001 at the level of 100 to 125 mm, in 2002, from 88 mm to 122 mm.

Opis:
In recent years researchers have focused increasingly on climatic changes taking place in nature (increasing air temperature, decreasing precipitation totals). These imply changes in components of water balances and in practice changes in water relations both on the global and local scale. At present site overdrying is considered to be the biggest threat [Pierzgalski 2007]. The aim of the study is to present water relations in the forest swampy areas in a forest district (the Marianka Forest District) of the Siemianice Forest Experimental Station in hydrological years of 2005 and 2006. The investigations showed that analysed catchments, despite being located in swampy areas, are characterized by periods of water depletion in ditches. In analysed watercourses runoff was recorded from mid-November 2004 to the beginning of June 2005, while in the next hydrological year it was recorded again from mid-November, but this time longer to mid-June 2006. In relation to ground water of the catchment area a predictable relationship was observed of the water table level at the locations of observation wells. The wells located in the top sections of the catchment had water table the deepest below the ground level, while wells in valleys had water tables at the most shallow levels. It may also be stated that wells situated in higher areas (watershed), are characterized by a slightly bigger variation in the ground water table during the year than it was the case with wells located at lower points (in valleys). Both analyzed hydrological years (2005 and 2006) showed a similar pattern of ground water table at individual sites. Moreover, a marked cyclicity was recorded in the elevation of the water table, i.e. water level rising in autumn and lowering in summer months (as a result of changes in plant transpiration). The relationship of ground water levels with different forest sites found in the analyzed catchments confirms the dependence on the site moisture level variant. Water was lying at the most shallow levels in the ash-alder swamp forest site – a marshy site, while it was markedly the deepest in fresh mixed coniferous forest sites – a fresh site type. When analyzing changes in the ground water levels in terms of stand age classes we may clearly observe the seasonal variation and similar patterns of changes. Water lay the most shallow in stands of age classes V and VI. The level was significantly deepest in age class IV. The above dependencies pertained both to the hydrological year 2005 and 2006.

Opis:
In this research which was carried out inSuleymanDemirel University Research and Application Farm during 2007 and 2008 years, apple leaf area index (LAI) and leaf water potential (LWP) were observed in Jersey Mac (V1) and Williams Pride (V2) young apple varieties budded on M9 rootstock irrigated with different irrigation methods. Drip (D), subsurface drip (SD), surface (S) and undertree micro sprinkler (M) irrigation methods were used in the research. The amount of applied irrigation water was as much as 100% of Class A Pan evaporation measured during five days irrigation intervals. The amount of irrigation water was ranged between 348.3 (D, SD) – 1186 (S, M) mm depending on irrigation methods during the experimental years. Furthermore, maximum and minimum crop evapotranspiration values were determined as 426.1 (DV2) and 1334.7 (MV2) mm respectively. LAI values related to treatments ranged from 0.32 to 0.52 in 2007, 0.73 to 1.12 in 2008. LAI values increased by approximately 126.3% for all treatments. In both years, generally, the highest LAI values were observed in drip irrigation (D) for both varieties. Linear correlation (r=0.99, n=16) was obtained between fruit yields and leaf area index (LAI) values of the apple trees. Leaf water potential (LWP) measurements were repeated one day before and after irrigation during the irrigation period. The measurements were also conducted once along a day in the middle of the season. Changes in value of LWP were similar among the treatments.

Opis:
The paper presents results of observations and hydro-meteorological measurements in a small catchment of the Krynica River, representative of the Tomaszów Lubelski Forest Division. The presented analysis of components of the water balance, particularly the volume of runoff, indicates the advisability of the construction of two reservoirs in the Bełżec Forest District. These reservoirs are to serve as elements of the fire protection system and the water retention system. Through damming culverts they will be connected with the Krynica River. Presented results constitute the hydrological characteristic of the catchment prior to the change in the engineering infrastructure related with the construction of the reservoirs. A complete evaluation of the efficiency of the investment will be possible after the reservoirs have been put in operation.
