Opis:
On the inner north wall of the Southern Room of Amun in the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari there is a depiction of the so-called frieze of objects, arranged in two rows. In the upper one vessels with oils containing four out of the so-called seven sacred oils and ʿntjw were located. It can be observed that in the sequence of the oils from the ‘seven sacred oils’, the third one – sft – has been replaced by ʿntjw and the two last oils are not depicted at all. In this paper the possible reasons for such a replacement as well as the role of both aromatic substances in the temple ritual in the early Eighteenth Dynasty are examined.

Opis:
The author analyzes four wooden female statuettes from the collection of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. All of them represent nude females and have many features in common. They were rendered in a way that emphasized their sexuality and fertility. Due to the lack of inscriptions their dating and function could be reconstructed only on the basis of analogies.

Opis:
New data concerning an Old Kingdom official responsible for foreign expeditions are analysed in the paper. Textual evidence found in 2012 in the tomb of Ikhi/Mery in Saqqara provides a basis for more precise dating of the professional activity of the tomb owner, but also gives an insight into some aspects of functioning of the bureaucracy during the late Old Kingdom. Last but not least the architecture of the tomb, that is unusual in many respects, is discussed.

Opis:
Middle Egypt is the most fertile region in the country and its provincial governors were the richest and most powerful. Intermarriages between members of neighbouring nomarchic families created a strong power base, resulting in most governors gradually representing themselves in such forms and using formulae which are strictly royal. While there is no evidence that any of the governors actually challenged the authority of the king, it seems doubtful if the latter would have been pleased with the grand claims made by some of his top administrators and the royal prerogatives they attributed to themselves. The almost simultaneous end of Middle Kingdom nobility in different provinces, under Senwosret III, even though presumably not everywhere at exactly the same time, appears to have been the result of a planned central policy, although each province was dealt with differently and as the opportunity presented itself.

Opis:
This paper is devoted to a parallel study of the 15th-century Tamil inscriptions from the Kāśīviśvanātha temple in Tenkasi (Tamil Nadu), describing the circumstances and building phases of this shrine, together with a modified retelling of the same episode by a 16th-century mahākāvya, the Pāṇḍyakulodaya. The comparative study of these passages aims to highlight significant changes in the traditional institution of Indian royal patronage. It will also enable considerations on the revolutionary transition in the description of the Pāṇṭiya kingship in the 16th century, marked by the rise of a new ideological idiom expressed by the Pāṇḍyakulodaya.

Opis:
In 2009, Nigel Strudwick published a paper drawing attention to a number of objects found in TT99 which seem to have been used in the Opening of the Mouth ritual. In 2015 an hieratic label from the same burial was identified as possibly belonging to a bag or box in which these items were kept. This paper presents a full edition of the label, and offers further comments on the context where the objects were found, and also indicates lines of research for further study of the Opening of the Mouth ritual.
