    Artykuł prezentuje casus łacińskiego poematu filozoficznego zatytułowanego Zodiacus vitae, wydanego po raz pierwszy w Wenecji w 1536 r. Chociaż we Włoszech dzieło zostało zapomniane i potępione, a kości jego autora – Marcella Palingenia Stellata (Palingeniusa) – spłonęły na stosie, utwór szybko zaczął cieszyć się dużym zainteresowaniem europejskich środowisk protestanckich, trwającym kilka stuleci. Paradoksalnie jednak autor Zodiaku życia nie był protestantem, a jego poemat bynajmniej nie propagował reformacyjnych treści. W artykule omówione zostaną passusy dzieła, które były sprzeczne z założeniami reformacji oraz antyklerykalne fragmenty, które chociaż zdawały się w nią wpisywać, nawiązywały w rzeczywistości do antyklerykalnej literatury humanistycznej.
    The article discusses the case of Latin-language philosophical poem entitled Zodiacus vitae, which was first published in Venice in 1536. Although the work was condemned and forgotten in Italy and its author, Palingenius, posthumously burned at the stake, Zodiacus quickly won significant popularity in European Protestant circles that lasted several centuries − surprisingly so, given that Palingenius was not a Protestant and his poem did not advocate any Protestant causes. The article analyses passages from the poem that are in stark contrast to Reformation and those anticlerical passages, that – however they seem to tie in with it – were inspired by the anticlerical literature of Italian humanism.

    In the article the author discusses anti-Lutheran polemics published in the Kingdom of Poland during the rule of Sigismund I and asks about the shape of Reformation movement, which developed in spite of numerous bans imposed by the king. The author proves that although these polemics were explicitly against “Lutherans,” they were often created as a result of clashes with other theologies of the emerging Protestantism. Works created by the lower-status Church employees were not novel, and their range of influence must have been limited.
    Artykuł omawia polemiki antyluterańskie opublikowane w Królestwie Polskim w czasach panowania Zygmunta I, stawiając pytanie o kształt ruchu reformacyjnego, rozwijającego się wówczas mimo wielu zakazów króla. Autor dowodzi, że choć polemiki skierowane były explicite przeciw „luteranom”, powstawały często w wyniku starć z innymi teologami rodzącego się protestantyzmu. Utwory stworzone przez niższych pracowników Kościoła były mało oryginalne, a ich zakres oddziaływania musiał pozostać ograniczony.

    Artykuł proponuje odmienne podejście do badań nad związkami pomiędzy renesansem a reformacją, rzucając nowe światło na konfrontację poglądów i pism Erazma z Rotterdamu i Marcina Lutra. Okazuje się, iż przebadanie wypowiedzi obu protagonistów prowadzi do odkrycia, że głębokie różnice pomiędzy renesansem a reformacją miały swój początek bardzo wcześnie oraz do ujawnienia, jak dalece idee Lutra redukowały marzenie Erazma o powrocie do „złotego wieku” – mianowicie do zera. W artykule wykazano jednocześnie, że drogi Erazma i Lutra nie rozeszły się, jak często dotąd przyjmowano, nawet w najnowszych badaniach historycznych, w 1524 r., wobec sporu o wolną i niewolną wolę, lecz w rzeczywistości już w 1516 r. This paper intends to make a fresh start in the study of the relationship between Renaissance and Reformation, by throwing light on the confrontation of both Erasmus and Luther’s advances of thought and writings. Actually, studying those two protagonists leads one to find out that the deep differences between Renaissance and Reformation started very early and to underline how much the Lutherian project reduced the Erasmian dream of a return of the Golden Age, to nothing. At the same time, this article reveals that the split between Erasmus and Luther did not take place, as too often asserted, even in the most recent historiography, in 1524, at the time of the conflict between free and servile will, but in fact as soon as 1516.

Wider das Bapstum zu Rom vom Teuffel gestifft (Wittenberg 1545), przechowywanego w zbiorach starych druków Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej w Toruniu pod sygnaturą Ob.6.II.2382. Jest to najprawdopodobniej pamiątka z ich ostatniego spotkania na zamku w Wittenberdze w grudniu 1545 r. W artykule omówiono treść publikacji i okoliczności wizyty Albrechta w tym mieście.
    The article presents a so far unknown personal dedication of Martin Luther for Prussian Prince Albrecht von Brandenburg-Ansbach (Hohenzollern), on the title page of a copy of an anti-papal print titled Wider das Bapstum zu Rom vom Teuffel gestifft (Wittenberg, 1545), kept in the old-print collection of the University Library in Toruń (no. Ob.6.II.2382). This is probably a reminder of their last meeting at Wittenberg Castle in December 1545. The author discusses the content of the publication and the circumstances of Albrecht’s visit in that town.

    W jaki sposób reformacja w Niemczech krytykowana była przez intelektualne, świeckie i duchowne elity Królestwa Polskiego? Jakie można tu wyróżnić stanowiska, uwzględniając ich zmienność w czasie? Czy w Polsce byli zwolennicy, a może wręcz patroni idei reformacyjnych? W poszukiwaniu odpowiedzi na te pytania sięgnięto po korespondencję Erazma z Rotterdamu, ponieważ utrzymywał on kontakty z wieloma Polakami i osobami w Polsce żyjącymi, a ponadto stanowił dla nich najważniejsze źródło informacji o rozwoju sytuacji w Niemczech. How has the reformation in Germany been criticized by the intellectual, secular, and ecclesiastical elite of the Polish kingdom? Which different positions are to be made, even in their temporal development? Have there been followers or even patrons of the reformatory ideas in Poland at all? To give answers to these questions, the correspondence of Erasmus of Rotterdam has been chosen, as he not only stayed in contact with numerous Polish or in Poland living people, but he also acts for them as the most important person to give information about the development in Germany.

    Artykuł podejmuje polemikę z wynikami badań na temat zwolenników reformacji luterańskiej w monarchii Zygmunta Starego, które zostały przedstawione w opublikowanym w 2018 r. studium Natalii Nowakowskiej. Zdaniem autora kwerenda została przeprowadzona w sposób selektywny, a niektóre odczyty łacińskich źródeł i ich interpretacja budzą zastrzeżenia, o czym świadczy m.in. sprawa krakowskiego złotnika Macieja Bochslera (Guthslara) rozpatrywana w grudniu 1532 r. i odnotowana wraz z kilkunastoma innymi procesami o luteranizm w krakowskiej księdze biskupiej o sygnaturze AEp 2. Przeanalizowane przez brytyjską uczoną źródła nie zmieniają zasadniczo ocen o słabym oddziaływaniu idei Marcina Lutra na społeczeństwo polskie w latach dwudziestych i trzydziestych XVI w., z wyjątkiem miast pruskich i elitarnych grup mieszczan pochodzenia niemieckiego działających w Małopolsce (Kraków) i Wielkopolsce (Poznań).
    The article engages in the polemics over the findings of research on the supporters of the Lutheran Reformation in the monarchy of King Sigismund the Old, presented in the study by Natalia Nowakowska, published in 2018. In the author’s opinion, the search query was conducted selectively, and some readings of Latin sources and their interpretation raise objections, as evidenced by, among other things, the case of the Cracow goldsmith Matthias Bochsler (Guthslar), dealt with in December 1532, and registered along with several other trials of Lutheranism, in the court book of Cracow bishops catalogued under the shelfmark AEp 2. The sources analysed by the British scholar do not fundamentally change the opinion of the small impact of Martin Luther’s ideas on the Polish society in the 1520s and 1530s, except for Prussian cities and elite groups of burghers of German origin active in Lesser Poland (Cracow) and Greater Poland (Poznań).
