Opis:
Infrared (IR) spectroscopy is at the cross-roads, with the requirement to compete with cutting-edge technologies in biosciences, mostly based on analytical performances dealing with the super-resolutions: time, lateral/spatial, and contrast. IR microscopy is diffraction limited in most cases, thus not accessing to high lateral/spatial resolutions. Additionally, it has a poor signal-to-noise ratio on a single scan, thus requiring long-lasting acquisitions that are not suitable to analyze ns-lasting biochemical events. However, it is unique because it provides a broad global chemical information of the sample contents. It is also unique because it does not require heavy sample preparation nor labeling and can be coupled to other techniques (multimodality). Finally, it is again unique because it provides quantitative measurements, thus suitable for 1D to 4D data exploitation procedures. This short review shows that IR spectroscopy will be certainly subjected to a second century of innovations, maintaining its influence in the panorama of cutting-edge analytical techniques.

We develop a formalism to obtain minimum uncertainty states using n-dependent annihilation operator. The formalism is applied to a three-dimensional harmonic oscillator and also to the one containing centrifugal barrier term. Our formalism shows that in both the cases the minimum uncertainty state can be written down as a product of the ground state and a simple function.

In earlier work universal propagators were introduced for the Heisenberg -Weyl group, the affine group, and the rotation group. By generalizing these constructions we show here that it is possible to introduce a universal propagator for a rather general unitary Lie group. In the context of coherent-state representations, the universal propagator is a single function independent of any particular choice of fiducial vector, which nonetheless, propagates all coherent state Hilbert space representatives correctly.

Equilibrium reduced-density operators for subsystems of the universe are derived from the generalised Schrödinger variational principle, additionally assuming that the values of von Neumann entropy for the subsystems are fixed and higher than zero. The obtained reduced-density operator may be useful for description of the properties of an arbitrary system (macroscopic, mesoscopic, nanoscopic, or microscopic) in the equilibrium mixed state.

Basic aspects of quantum communication based on quantum channels theory are reviewed together with suitable examples. The key notion of quantum channel capacity is discussed. The role of mixed states entanglement as a practical tool in quantum channels theory is explained in detail. Application of recent results on non-positive partial transpose bound entanglement conjecture to binding entanglement channels shows that validity of the conjecture for some states implies nonadditivity of two-way quantum channel capacity. Some aspects of robustness of entanglement in context of positive maps theory are also discussed.

We consider the extended Hubbard model for the single cubic lattice and rewrite it in the form of interacting dimers, using the exact solution of the dimer problem. We analytically derive the second quantization form of the dimer Hamiltonian eliminating from the considerations unoccupied dimer energy levels in the large U limit (it is the only assumption). The resulting dimer Hamiltonian written with the use of the Hubbard operators and spin operators contains three terms, visualizing explicitly competing magnetic interactions (ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic) as a generalization of the t-J model. The presented, nonperturbative method, can in principle be applied to the cluster of any size (e.g. one central atom and z its nearest neighbours). The use of the projection technique can further be applied in the case of a crystal to obtain the second quantization form of the extended Hubbard model for the sc lattice in the large U limit.

The electronic energy loss and the straggling of the energy loss of the degenerate electron gas for excited H*-, He*-, He**-, and Li*-like ions were calculated. The results were compared with the corresponding characteristics for ions kept in the ground state. The linear response theory was used. The ion was described by the Hartree-Fock-Slater formalism and the medium by the dielectric function. The stopping and straggling effective charges Z$\text{}_{ef}$ for the energy loss were analysed and they were found to differ from each other and to depend on the one-electron radius r$\text{}_{s}$, on the ion atomic number Z$\text{}_{i}$, and on the number of electrons N$\text{}_{i}$ carried by the ion.

Opis:
We apply the concept of generalized (almost localized) Fermi liquid and associated with it unconventional superconductivity with Cooper pairs composed of quasiparticles with the spin dependent masses (in an applied field) and with the effective field, both induced by electron correlations. The pairing among quasiparticles takes place either in reciprocal space (Sect. 2) or in real space (Sect. 3) and is induced by the kinetic exchange of either superexchange (in the generic narrow-band situation) or Kondo-type interaction (in the Kondo-lattice limit of the periodic Anderson model). While the main features of this type of Fermi liquid have been introduced earlier, we present here a picture which is applicable to both heavy-fermion and high-$T_{c}$ superconductivity within a single narrow-band representation of correlated states. Our approach introduces a set of additional concepts (spin-dependent masses, effective fields induced by electron correlations), for which the Landau concept of the Fermi liquid represents still a workable scheme. In the limit of the Kondo lattice, we present the phase diagram incorporating the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov phase within the BCS-type of pairing, whereas in that of the t-J model we show that the proper choice of renormalization factors and constraints is crucial for the mean-field description of the superconducting state.

The static fluctuation approximation is applied for the first time to an electronic system. A simple model (a uniform electron fluid) is chosen to explore the applicability of static fluctuation approximation to electrons in metals. The thermodynamic properties - the internal energy per particle, the pressure, the entropy per unit volume, the heat capacity per unit volume, and the chemical potential - are calculated over a wide range of densities within the metallic-density region. Finally, the pair-correlation function for the electron fluid is evaluated. Values of this function are then tabulated for zero-interparticle separation at several densities of interest. The results of this work are found to be in good agreement with several other many-body calculations.

Opis:
The perturbed hypernetted-chain approach to electron-positron interaction in jellium consists in assuming the wave function of the system in the form of a Slater determinant built of single-electron functions presented asψi k(s)=w(s)φ$\text{}_{i}$ k(s). s is the distance between the electron and the positron. The function w(s) is obtained by solving the equation of Gondzik and Stachowiak. The functionφ$\text{}_{i k}$(s) is computed by applying a self-consistent Born approximation. The idea of the paper is to modify the function w(s) in such a way as to obtain from the Born approximation as precise results as possible. It is shown that the influence of such modifications on physical predictions is small. This shows how good is the perturbed hypernetted-chain approach. The annihilation rates obtained in such a way decrease somewhat, becoming closer to experimental expectations.

Entirely new Mössbauer spectrometer MsAa-4 is currently under design and construction. New features as compared to the basic features of the previous generation MsAa-3 spectrometer could be summarized as follows. Completely digital processing of the γ-ray detector signal beyond the Gaussian shape filter/amplifier is to be implemented. The spectrometer is going to be able to accommodate external multiple detector heads. One could collect simultaneously up to 128 γ-ray spectra in 16384 channels of 32-bit each and up to 512 Mössbauer spectra in 4096 channels of 32-bit each provided the proper external multiple detector head is used. The count-rate per single detector is limited to about $10^5$ counts per second total. Improved precision of the reference function from 12-bit to 16-bit is to be provided. The reference function is stored in 8192 channels per complete cycle. Addition of the random noise to the reference corner prism of the Michelson-Morley calibration inteferometer is to be introduced to avoid spurious fringes due to the phase lock-up. Integrated universal temperature controller being able to use variety of the temperature sensors is to be interconnected with the proper spectrometer. The spectrometer is now a stand-alone network device as it is equipped with the Ethernet connection to the outside world. Modular design and use of the strict standards allows easy reconfiguration for other applications than the Mössbauer spectroscopy.

A Monte Carlo study of the role of the frequency on the hot-electron intrinsic noise reduction in an n-type GaAs bulk driven by two mixed cyclostationary electric fields is presented. Previous numerical results showed the possibility to reduce the diffusion noise under specific wave-mixing conditions. In this work the variations of the noise properties are investigated by computing and integrating the spectral density of the velocity fluctuations. We found that the effect of reduction of the noise level due to the addition of a second field at twice frequency is almost independent of the frequency.

We investigate the modification of the intrinsic carrier noise spectral density induced in low-doped semiconductor materials by an external correlated noise source added to the driving high-frequency periodic electric field. A Monte Carlo approach is adopted to numerically solve the transport equation by considering all the possible scattering phenomena of the hot electrons in the medium. We show that the noise spectra are strongly affected by the intensity and the correlation time of the external random electric field. Moreover, this random field can cause a suppression of the total noise power.
