Opis:
The results of experimental investigation of structural and physical properties of ZnO and ZnMnO films are presented in this work. The films of ZnO and $Zn_{1-x}Mn_{x}O$ of different thickness were obtained on $Al_{2}O_{3}$, glass, and KCl substrates in vacuum of 1 × $10^{-5}$ Torr by the pulsed laser deposition method. The samples were obtained under the substrate temperature 300-473 K. A thickness of films was in the range of 0.5-1 μm depending on the number of laser pulses. The structure of target bulk materials was investigated by X-ray diffraction method. A structure of laser deposited films was investigated by the transmission high-energy electron diffraction method. Electric resistivity was measured in the temperature range 77-450 K. The presence of two activation energies in the temperature range 300-330 K and 330-450 K is followed from the analysis of the films electrical resistivity. These activation energies correspond to two deep donor's energy levels. The shallow donor's level is connected with manganese presence. Optical transmission of ZnO and ZnMnO films deposited at various temperatures were investigated.

Opis:
The binding energy of an off-center hydrogenic donor impurity in a finite confining potential quantum well was calculated by using a variational method of the Bastard type. New analytical expressions for the binding energy and for the initial deviation from the result of an infinite confining potential well were derived for the ground energy state. The sign of the initial deviation was found to depend on the location of the impurity. The analytical expressions were utilized further to derive some other important parameters.

The investigations on the use of the alternative raw materials have been always popular in the ceramic tile production. Manufacturers have been interested in this subject for both increasing product quality and decreasing production costs. In this research the Bigadiç boron works waste clay was utilized as an alternative raw material. Boron works waste clay was characterized by chemical and X-ray diffraction analyses. Ceramic characteristics were determined from pressed bodies, using four elevated firing temperatures (1040, 1060, 1080, and 1100°C) for samples with 5, 10, 15, and 20 wt% boron works waste clay additions to a commercial wall-tile batch. The physical properties of the fired tiles were evaluated in terms of water absorption, linear shrinkage, and flexural strength. Microstructural observations were performed by scanning electron microscopy analyses. Based on the technological characteristics of the resulting ceramic material, the results were discussed.

The aim of this study is to characterize and determine the ceramic properties of the Turgutlu clay fired at various temperatures. For this purpose, the clay sample was first characterized by chemical analysis, X-ray diffraction, and plasticity measurements. The mineralogical composition of the Turgutlu clay was dominated by quartz, illite, mica, hematite, calcite, kaolinite, microcline, and smectite. The data obtained from plasticity tests indicated that the Turgutlu clay was very high plastic clay. To evaluate firing behaviors, pressed clay samples were fired separately at temperatures between 850 and 1100°C. Fired specimens were evaluated by water absorption, linear shrinkage, bulk density, flexural strength, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. Significant changes were observed such as an increase in the linear shrinkage and flexural strength together with a decrease in the water absorption above 1050°C. Based on the technological characteristics, the Turgutlu clay could be used in the manufacture of structural ceramics.

This article gives an overview of the use of X-ray absorption spectroscopy to characterize the magnetic properties for technologically important, low dimensional magnetic materials. An overview is given both for the experimental hardware, the measurements and the analysis of the spectra. The information obtained is discussed for metallic and semiconducting systems, using both the X-ray magnetic circular dichroism and the X-ray linear magnetic dichroism spectroscopy.

Polyaniline (PANI) was successfully deposited by means of cyclic voltammetry technique from 0.10 M aniline containing 0.30 M oxalic acid and 1 g/l H₃BO₃ solution on AISI 4140 steel electrode. In this investigation nominate scan rates 25, 50, 75, and 100 mV/s have been examined. PANI film was characterized using optical microscope; it was covered with a dark green-yellow homopolymer film of strongly adherent homogeneous characteristic. The corrosion behaviour of the steel electrodes with and without PANI film in 3.5% NaCl solution was investigated through anodic polarization curves. The results indicated that PANI coating led to decrease of the permeability of metallic plating. The PANI homopolymer film provided an effective barrier property and a remarkable anodic protection to substrate.

This paper presents the first integral method to carry out the integration of Schrödinger-type equations in terms of traveling wave solutions. Through the established first integrals, exact traveling wave solutions are obtained under some parameter conditions.

Three different zirconium oxynitride films were deposited onto glass and Si (100) substrates at room temperature by pulsed reactive dc magnetron sputtering of a metallic Zr target in an $Ar//O_2//N_2$ atmosphere. The structural, compositional and optical properties of the deposited films were found to depend on the ratio of nitrogen partial pressure to the total reactive gas partial pressure. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy measurements revealed that as the nitrogen amount increased in the reactive gas the nitrogen content was found to increase in the film. The film structure was determined by X-ray diffraction. The X-ray diffraction patterns of the analyzed samples revealed a strong dependence of the $ZrO_xN_{y}$ film structure on composition. A two layer model, the Bruggeman effective medium approximation and both Drude absorption edge and Lorentz oscillators were used to describe the surface roughness layer and the main $ZnO_xN_{y}$ layer, respectively, was used to describe the experimental ellipsometric data. The optical band gap was decreased from 3.56 to 3.45 eV with changing nitrogen content, while refractive index at 650 nm simultaneously was increased from 1.98 to 2.11.

In this work, the Zn-Co coatings were synthesized on AISI 4140 steel and aluminum plates by using potentiostatic electrodeposition technique in sulphate-based acidic baths with 0, 20, 40 and 60 gl¯¹ of borax pentahydrate, as additive. The effect of borax pentahydrate on the microstructure of the samples was observed using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffractometer. The deposition process was investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The effect of borax pentahydrate on the corrosion resistance of the samples was studied by potentiodynamic polarization technique. The results have demonstrated, that the addition of borax pentahydrate was in favor of the growth of grains. The morphology of pyramidal islands on the surface was changed to a more flat structure. The results have also demonstrated that the effect of borax pentahydrate was not monotonous. With increasing concentration, the corrosion potential was at minimum and the charge transfer resistance $R_{t}$ was at maximum for the sample obtained from the bath with 60 gl¯¹ of borax pentahydate, indicating that this sample showed the best corrosion resistance. It was found that current density first decreased and than increased, due to adsorption of a complex of borax pentahydrate and/or changes in the morphology, however, the initial deposition potential was not affected. The addition of borax pentahydrate to the bath led to formation of the best Zn-Co deposits, composed of coalesced globular fine grains, smaller than ≈2 μm in diameter. In addition, all of the studied Zn-Co deposits consisted of η phases. It is suggested that Zn-Co deposits produced in the bath containing 60 gl¯¹ of borax pentahydrate probably offer sacrificial protection to the steel substrate.

This study focuses on production and characterization of sodium silicate cullet by using trona. Sodium silicate cullets are generally produced by direct fusion of precisely measured portions of soda ash (Na₂CO₃) and quartz (SiO₂). In this study trona (Na₂CO₃· NaHCO₃· 2H₂O) was used as a source of soda ash. For this purpose trona sample was first characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, differential thermal analysis/thermal gravimetry and chemical analyses. Different batches were prepared and fused to produce sodium silicates varying in ratio Na₂O· nSiO₂. Produced samples were evaluated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that trona can be used instead of soda ash to produce sodium silicate cullets.

Here, we show that rather uniform 7 nm Co nanocrystals self-organize into long-range two- and three-dimensional superlattices. Due to this ability we have to control the mesoscopic ordering; unexpected intrinsic collective chemical and physical properties have been discovered. By annealing treatment, a crystallographic transition from a polycrystalline fcc- to single crystalline hcp-Co phase is obtained leading to a drastic change in the magnetic properties such as an increase in the blocking temperature that can reach a value close to room temperature. Neither coalescence between nanocrystals nor oxidation of the Co material is observed. In these artificial solids, when the individual nanocrystal anisotropy is low, super-spin glass behavior is observed.

Electron correlation is responsible for finite lifetimes of excited electrons in crystals. Lifetime energy dependence can be obtained for infinite jellium model and only very recently the first results for an infinite crystal have been evaluated (GW approximation). Here, a phenomenological approach, based on Green functions, is presented. Broadening of local densities of electron states as well as that of angular-resolved photoemission (ARUPS) peaks and very-low-energy-electron diffraction (VLEED) profiles, due to the imaginary component of the optical potential is reviewed and interpreted. Anisotropy of electron damping on crystal surfaces has been found in VLEED as a result of electron channeling along the densely packed (111) surface atomic planes in fcc crystals. Interpretation of peak widths in VLEED-and ARUPS-profiles provides a mean to learn about damping of electrons, excited on crystal surface.

We discuss the possibility of light control by means of light diffraction by space charge waves which are the periodic domain trains induced at some circumstances in GaAs Gunn effect diode. The two possible regimes of the proposed device are considered: the first one which is analogous to the Bragg diffraction in case of light-acoustic diffraction and the other one, which we call "intermediate", since the parameter Q which distinguishes the Raman-Nath (Q<1) and the Bragg diffraction (Q>10), in this case is≈1 (actually, only bit smaller than 1). Among the advantages of this hypothetical device are the simpler control of operation and perhaps, possibility to couple it with the waveguides and switchers for surface electromagnetic waves and other miniaturized photonic circuits.

Phonon dispersion curves for fcc Cu-25% Zn alloy were calculated using deLauney angular force model, the analysis being limited to the second neighbour interactions only. In the present calculations the elastic constants of Cu and Zn in fcc and hcp phases, respectively, were used to evaluate the force constants of the alloy system. Satisfactory agreement between theory and experiment is obtained.

A simple theory for the Aharonov-Bohm-like effect (dynamical phase) in semiconductor microstructure, is presented in a paper, assuming a "ballistic spin transport". If in one of the arms of microstructure there is an additional periodic magnetic field, the spin wave function acquires a phase shift due to additional spin precession about that field. By introducing quaternion representation of the elements of propagation matrices, one can calculate the transition coefficient of the structure. It is shown that the deep modulation of the conductance could be achieved.
