Investigations of temperature dependence of a nuclear quadrupole spin-lattice relaxation time of $\text{}^{79}$Br nuclei in ferroelectric (CH$\text{}_{3}$)$\text{}_{4}$NCdBr$\text{}_{3}$ are presented. It is shown that in paraelectric phase in the vicinity of phase transition temperature relaxation process is determined by critical fluctuations of electric field gradient. In ferroelectric phase relaxation is related to three different mechanisms, namely: lattice vibrations, CH$\text{}_{3¯}$ group reorientations and TMA cation motions. According to the results of measurements it is concluded that the phase transition is connected with ordering of TMA cations.

Opis:
Quantum close-coupled calculations of the collisional self-broadening of the 540.06 nm neon line (3s[3/2]$\text{}_{1}$-3p'[1/2]$\text{}_{0}$) are presented for temperatures from 70 K to 900 K. These calculations are based on the quantum-mechanical impact theory of Baranger and represent the interatomic interaction by adiabatic molecular potentials calculated using model potentials for the electron- atom and atomic core-core interactions. The calculated widths and shifts vary smoothly with temperature and are accurately given across the temperature range by fourth order polynomial fits.

Opis:
The critical temperature dependence of the nuclear quadrupole- resonance $\text{}^{79}$Br frequencies at the phase transition (T$\text{}_{c}$ = 163 K) was found in (CH$\text{}_{3}$)$\text{}_{4}$NCdBr$\text{}_{3}$. It was concluded that bromine nuclei take part in the phase transition not directly but via the interaction with the crystal polarization.

GaAs samples doped with indium atoms by ion implantation and thermal annealed were studied using a channelling method, Rutherford backscattering, and an ellipsometry. From these measurements it was observed that the layer implanted with 3×10$\text{}^{16}$ cm$\text{}^{-2}$ indium dose was totally damaged and its optical properties, namely a refraction index n and an extinction coefficient k, corresponded to the amorphous material. Subsequent isobaric heating of the implanted samples resulted in recovery of the crystalline structures with simultaneous change of the n and k index values.

Industrial waste-water contains hundreds of hazardous chemical components such as volatile organic compounds. Several of the chemicals, such as acetone, are soluble in water. These chemicals pose a threat to the human health and ecosystem. The governments are interested in decreasing the concentration of these chemicals in waste-water by making environmental regulations. Most of the chemical industries have their own waste-water treatment units. These units can separate impurities down to ppm level. After that point, more complicated and costly methods are required. Alternatively, membrane separation methods, such as pervaporation can be used for selective separations of the volatile organic compounds. Pervaporative separation system is defined as environmentally friendly, cost effective process to separate azeotropic and water soluble mixtures. The membrane is the main constituent of the pervaporation and the performance of the separation is directly affected by the membrane selection. In this study, carbon black loaded poly(dimethyl siloxane) mixed matrix membrane was prepared to separate acetone from water by pervaporation. Thermal gravimetric analysis was applied to determine the thermal behavior of the membrane. Inorganic distribution was monitored by means of polarized electron microscopy. Contact angle measurement was applied to determine the effect of filler incorporation on the polymer hydrophobicity. Effect of temperature and feed molar ratio on acetone selectivity and flux were determined.

In recent years biodiesel is receiving more attention as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuel. Biodiesel has lower exhaust emissions and toxicity compared to petroleum diesel fuel. In this study, biodiesel is produced from the oleic acid esterification process. We try to develop an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for biodiesel synthesis. A catalytic membrane carboxymethyl cellulose with sulfosuccinic acid has been prepared for using as catalyst. Carboxymethyl cellulose is a natural and biodegradable polymer and it has the advantage of green catalysis. Sulfosuccinic acid is a homogeneous catalyst. To overcome the disadvantages of the homogenous catalyst, sulfosuccinic acid is used together with polymeric membranes. The effects of the ethanol/oleic acid molar ratio, the reaction temperature, the sulfosuccinic acid concentration and the stirring speed were investigated to find out the optimum reaction conditions. The catalytic stability of the catalytic membrane is also studied. The optimum conditions for the reaction were found to be 65°C, catalytic membrane with 6 mmol of sulfosuccinic acid, 9:1 ethanol to oleic acid molar ratio and 600 rpm stirring speed. The oleic acid conversion using the catalytic membrane was 85% under these conditions after 6 h. Our findings show that carboxymethyl cellulose membrane with sulfosuccinic acid groups is a suitable catalyst for esterification.

The behaviour of an Ising spin glass (S=1/2) with infinite range interactions is modelled using a numerical simulation based on a neural network. Thermodynamic variables are defined on the network, and are found to obey the Thouless-Anderson-Palmer theory when the applied magnetic field is zero. When a magnetic field is applied along the spin direction, complex field-dependent behaviour appears, including a state in which the Edwards-Anderson order parameter is independent of temperature below the critical temperature.

Opis:
Binding energies of excitons in quantum well structures have been studied by solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation where the potential is made up by the confining quantum well potentials of arbitrary form and the Coulomb interaction between the electron and hole. The problem is solved without the usually assumed variational procedure and the separation ansatz for the confined electron and hole states. The wave functions for electrons and holes can be extracted from the exciton wave function and are used for the interpretation of the charge localization.

We discuss a theoretical model for the Zeeman splitting in dimension reduced structures consisting of semimagnetic semiconducting materials. The interplay of the magnetic field in different orientations with the confinement and strain induced symmetry reduction in quantum well structures is discussed. The coupling of valence band states of magnetic and nonmagnetic wells in asymmetric double quantum well structures is studied.

In the present study, wetting behaviors of Sn-9Zn-xAl ternary lead-free solder alloys produced by the addition of Al in various amounts binary Sn-9Zn eutectic lead-free solder alloy (wt%) were investigated. Contact angles of alloys were measured by using of the sessile drop method. Microstructures, inter-metallic phases, and melting temperatures of alloys were characterized by optic microscope and scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and differential scanning calorimeter, and effects of the amount of Al on microstructure were investigated. As a result, the studies show that Al-rich areas were found on microstructure of Sn-9Zn-xAl alloys. The lowest melting temperature for Sn-9Zn-0.5Al and Sn-9Zn-0.7Al alloys was determined as 200.9°C. It was determined that wetting capability of Sn-9Zn-xAl alloys failed because of oxidation.

The performance of an isothermal endoreversible four-reservoir chemical potential transformer, in which the mass transfer between the mass reservoir and the working medium obeys diffusive law, is analyzed and optimized in this paper. The relation between the rate of energy pumping and the coefficient of performance of the isothermal chemical potential transformer is derived by using finite-time thermodynamics. Moreover, the optimal operating regions and the influences of some parameters on the performance of the cycle are studied. The results obtained herein can provide some new theoretical guidelines for the optimal design of a class of apparatus such as mass exchangers, as well as electrochemical, photochemical, and solid-state devices, and the fuel pumps for solar-energy conversion systems.

The beta irradiation, as one of several possibilities how to modify the polymer properties resulted in isotactic polybutene-1 (PB-1) and its random copolymers with ethylene (E) mainly in chain scission without chain cross-linking. The original phase I did not change by irradiation, only the transformation rate of phase II to I increased with the irradiation dose and ethylene groups in PB-1/E copolymers. Beta irradiation decreased the sample crystallinity, crystal size, and perfection.

In this study, the internal energy and the specific heat of the one-dimensional Ising model obtained in the frame of the generalized statistical thermodynamics by Andrade, were somewhat extended and compared with the internal energy and the specific heat which were calculated in the standard (conventional) statistical thermodynamics. In the q → 1 case, approaching of the generalized internal energy and the specific heat to the standard well-known results, were illustrated by numerical applications. In addition to these, N ≫ 1 case was also investigated.

The influence of texture on deformation behavior was investigated for conventionally rolled magnesium alloy slabs and rolled twin roll cast magnesium alloy strips in the form of sheets. The Mg-Zn based sheets were deformed at room temperature with the tensile axis oriented in the rolling and transversal directions. The texture with respect to different rolling conditions was characterized by X-ray diffraction. In the case of Mg-Zn-rare earth alloy sheets, the basal pole intensity, aligned with the sheet normal direction, is lower for conventionally rolled sheet in comparison to the rolled twin roll cast strip. Difference in angular distribution of basal planes influences on the mechanical behavior of the sheets. The yield strength is higher for the tension along rolling direction than along transversal direction for the conventionally rolled sheets, whereas the opposite deformation behavior is observed for the rolled twin roll cast strips. Furthermore, the planar anisotropy of the yield strength is less pronounced for the rolled twin roll cast strips. The deformation behavior of the sheets was also investigated by the acoustic emission technique. The acoustic emission signal analysis correlates the microstructure and the stress-time curves with active deformation mechanisms. It highlights the activity of a basal slip and tensile twinning, particularly during the transverse direction tension.

In this study, the mechanism and the kinetic parameters of the thermal decomposition of gibbsite Al(OH)₃ were studied by differential thermogravimetry technique under non-isothermal conditions, between room temperature and 1200 K at heating rates of 5, 10, 15 and 20°C min¯¹. The obtained differential thermogravimetry curves show clearly three distinct peaks. The first peak is due to the partial dehydroxylation of gibbsite. Among the 32 types of differential equations of non-isothermal kinetics, we have found that the most suitable mechanism is (A_{3/2}: g(x)=[-ln(1-x)]^{2/3}) also called Avrami-Erofeev equation of order 2/3. The values of the activation energy E_{A} and of the pre-exponential factor K are 157 kJ mol¯¹ and 7.58×10¹⁵ s¯¹, respectively. The second peak corresponds to the decomposition of gibbsite to boehmite. Decomposition is controlled by the rate of second-order reaction (F₂: g(x)=(1-x)¯¹-1), under the applied conditions. The activation energy E_{A} and pre-exponential factor K correspond to 243 kJ mol¯¹ and 3.73×10²² s¯¹, respectively. The third peak is due to transformation of boehmite to alumina. However the mechanism for such transformation is better described by the 3/2 rate order reaction (F_{3/2}: g(x)=(1-x)^{-1/2}-1). In addition, the values of E_{A} and K were determined to be around 296 kJ mol¯¹ and 1.82×10¹⁹ s¯¹, respectively. The results of differential thermogravimetry were supplemented by the differential thermal analysis. X-ray powder diffraction analysis was carried out for samples of gibbsite treated at different temperatures between 200 and 1200°C in 200°C steps.
