Elastically backscattered electrons and electron energy losses were measured for the Co/Cu(110) system at different incidence angles of the primary electron beam to obtain the directional elastic peak electron spectroscopy and directional electron energy loss spectroscopy profiles. The measurements were performed for clean and covered Cu(110) by equivalent quantities of 3 ML and 5 ML of Co. The directional elastic peak electron spectroscopy profiles show a similar distribution of intensity maxima for Cu(110) and Co/Cu(110), which indicates the epitaxial growth of Co layers. The chemical sensitive signal of electron energy losses (Cu and Co 3 $p_{3//2}$) recorded as a function of the incidence angle of primaries is characterized by modulations which reflect the order within the first few atomic layers of the investigated sample. Therefore, in the case of directional electron energy loss spectroscopy both the chemical and structural information is obtained.

Opis:
The effect of large $I_{c}$ anisotropy reductions in $MgB_2//Cu$ sheathed wire is presented. The measurements of the critical current in rising magnetic field up to 14 T at 4.2 K were performed. Due to the application of the high isostatic pressure process to the copper sheathed $MgB_2$ wires with the ex situ $MgB_2$ homo barrier around the in situ core the anisotropy for such wires was very small and approached to less than 2% at magnetic field over 4 T. The presented geometry and technology show several advantages in their practical applications.

In this paper the results of critical current measurements for $MgB_2$ wires and tapes in iron sheath with and without nano-SiC doping are presented. We focus on power-in-tube processing technique, using both in situ and ex situ methods. In situ $MgB_2$ wires and tapes were fabricated from $MgH_2$ and B or Mg and B powders. The methods such as hydrostatic extrusion and rolling were used. The samples were annealed under high Ar gas pressure (hot isostatic pressing) at 750°C and 1.0 GPa for 40 min. It was found that critical current of $MgB_2$/Fe superconducting wire or tape with nano-SiC dopant increased in higher magnetic field values in comparison to pure $MgB_2$. A significant difference of $J_c$ in tapes made by in situ way from $MgH_2$ and Mg were found.

Fluorescence excitation spectra of spatially resolved single terrylene molecules in a naphthalene crystal were studied at 5 K as a function of exciting laser light intensity. The fully saturated fluorescence detection rate for purely electronic transition (0,0) was found to be about twice smaller than that for the two main vibronic components located 239 and 251 $cm^{-1}$ above. This relation is fulfilled when the triplet population rate $k_{23}$ is much weaker than the depopulation rate $k_{31}$. We propose that the weak fluorescence excitation lines observed at the frequencies of 38, 67, 97, and 145 $cm^{-1}$ correspond to nontotally symmetric low-frequency vibration modes of terrylene.

In order to improve the overall critical current characteristics of Cu sheathed in situ MgB$\text{}_{2}$ wires a special architecture of the wire, and processing parameters were used. The study presents the influence of the ex situ MgB$\text{}_{2}$ chemical barrier between ex situ core and Cu, suppressing the reaction of Cu with Mg. Wires, doped with 10 at.% SiC of 18 nm average grain size, were fabricated from MgH$\text{}_{2}$ and B or from Mg and B powders, using the powder-in-tube method. The methods of rotary swaging or drawing were used as the alternating wire-forming processes. The samples were annealed under high Ar gas pressure (hot isostatic pressing) at 750ºC and 1.0 GPa for 15 and 30 min. A significant difference in Cu distribution across the wires for a long and short time of sintering was observed. The formation of microstructure in the powder-in-tube process and the relationship between the microstructure and critical current density J$\text{}_{c}$ values, are discussed in this paper.
