Opis:
The investigation of electrical conductivity, coefficient of thermal electromotive force, Hall coefficient, microhardness and mobility in Pb$\text{}_{1-x}$Ge$\text{}_{x}$Te (x = 0 ÷ 0.1) alloys in the temperature range of 77-300 K was carried out. Anomalies were detected in isotherms of properties in the vicinity of x = 0.008. The anomalies were treated as a manifestation of concentration phase transitions occurring in solid solutions of any kind and associated with existence of critical concentration (percolation threshold) at which the uninterrupted chain of interactions between impurity atoms is formed.

Opis:
Valence shell diagonal hardnesses (electron repulsion) parameters are reported for the first- and second-row transition metal ions, determined via finite differences from the Xα eigenvalues for alternative configurations and charges. Both rigid (unrelaxed orbitals) and orbitally relaxed hardnesses have been calculated. The relaxed parameters provide a convenient basis for generating a realistic hardness tensor of catalytic systems involving transition metals at the atoms-in-molecules (AIM) oxidation state and configurations, thus facilitating the charge-sensitivity-analysis of chemisorption systems both at the AIM and orbital resolutions. The observed trends in the orbital relaxation effects are briefly discussed.

Opis:
A study of luminescence properties of sorbates of the europium(III) complexes with naphthoic acid and 1,10-phenanthroline on the zeolite of CaA-type that may be used as luminophores of the red color luminosity, has been performed. It was shown that the highest luminescence intensity in sorbate is observed upon the preliminary sorption of Eu(III) ion on zeolite following the treatment of naphthoic acid and 1,10-phenanthroline. The stability of sorbates to the temperature action was established (100°C, 2 h).

Opis:
The temperature dependencies of coefficient of linear expansion α in the range of 4.2-300 K were obtained for SnTe samples with various degrees of deviation from stoichiometry. For the sample of stoichiometric composition in the α vs. temperature curves the anomalies connected with ferroelectric phase transition were detected. It was found that within cubic phase existence region α isotherms have a minimum at 50.4 at.% Te. Maximum dynamic stability at indicated composition is believed to be associated with the formation of vacancy superstructure.

Transport and magnetic properties of Pb$\text{}_{1-x}$Mn$\text{}_{x}$Te (x<0.18) semiconductor alloys doped with Cr or Mo are investigated in a broad range of temperatures and magnetic fields. In PbMnTe(Cr) alloys the Fermi level may be pinned either in the conduction band or in the energy gap, depending on Mn concentration. In PbMnTe(Mo) alloys the pinning of the Fermi level is observed in the valence band as well as in the energy gap. In the latter case persistent photoconductivity is observed at low temperatures. The analysis of the temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility shows that PbMnTe alloys doped with Cr or Mo are Curie-Weiss paramagnets revealing weak antiferromagnetic interactions between magnetic ions.

Recently new effects that are not characteristic of undoped lead telluride, such as the Fermi level pinning, giant negative magnetoresistance, were observed in Pb$\text{}_{1-x}$Mn$\text{}_{x}$Te alloys doped with transition and rare earth elements - Cr, Mo, Yb. We have studied transport and magnetic properties of Pb$\text{}_{1-x}$Mn$\text{}_{x}$Te doped with another transition element - vanadium. A series of Pb$\text{}_{1-x}$Mn$\text{}_{x}$Te(V) samples of different composition and degree of doping was investigated. It was observed that the resistivity demonstrates activation behavior at low temperatures for the samples with considerable amount of vanadium as well as for the samples without vanadium. The activation energy is proportional to the Mn content. In some of the samples, photoconductivity was observed at low temperatures. The results are discussed in terms of a model assuming formation of the impurity level by the vanadium impurity and the effect of the Fermi level pinning by this level.

We have investigated thin films of lanthanum manganites epitaxially grown by pulsed laser deposition on single-crystalline substrates. X-ray diffraction studies show that the characteristic feature of the investigated films is a superposition of fractions with long range atomic order in the basic single-crystalline matrix, and mesoscopic order in the clusterized structure encompassing the Mn-O layers. A detailed analysis of diffusive scattering shows that the size of metallic clusters and their volume concentration in the dielectric matrix varies. In the case of a small size and concentration, the metallic clusters in low temperature behave as quantum dots and their presence leads to a tunneling mechanism of conductivity with characteristic R(T)= const. In the case of large cluster size, the discrete energy levels become smeared. It appears also that the optical, transport, and magnetic properties of the investigated films depend critically on the distribution of Mn$\text{}^{2+}$, Mn$\text{}^{3+}$, and Mn$\text{}^{4+}$ ions in the clusters.

We present preliminary studies of magnetic properties of Ge$\text{}_{1-x}$Cr$\text{}_{x}$Te semimagnetic semiconductors with low chromium content x < 0.026. The static and dynamic magnetometry techniques were employed for the current investigations. The obtained results showed large bifurcations between zero-field cooled and field cooled magnetization curves at temperatures lower than 50 K. The dynamic susceptibility measurements proved via frequency shifting of the peaks that the observed magnetic order at low temperatures was the spin-glass-like state caused by magnetic frustration of the system.

In the electric power industry, the cost of energy, its longevity and safety of transferring are important problems. Security problems, environmental effects, discharging occurrences and the endurance of the transporters are the problems that exist as a consequence of the high voltage necessity for the transmission of big amounts of energy and which need to be solved. ADSS (all dielectric self-supporting) cables are generally installed on high voltage transmission lines. They are mostly used in such situations, as high temperature, strong winds and direct sunshine and, as the effect, the UV radiation, etc. The solid materials are in use more frequently than gas or liquid ones. Decent dielectric materials need to be sturdy to puncturing and highly invulnerable for mechanical issues. Moreover, they have to perform and resist well the chemical reactions and high temperature, so that they would not be easily effected by the environmental factors. In this study, the mathematical modeling of heat effects on ADSS cables is investigated by using dry band arcing (IEEE 1222 Electrical surface degradation) test method. A heat source is introduced into the test setup, to evaluate the performance of poly-ethylene cable jackets on ADSS cables at different temperatures. Test results indicate that the endurance of the ADSS cables decreases with the increasing temperature.

The electron movement in thin semiconductor layer adjoining interface semiconductor-insulator in metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) microstructure with periodic field electrodes is considered. If a voltage of some sufficiently high frequency is applied to such a structure the effect of this high frequency field on a charge carriers in semiconductor is equivalent, in a sense, to the effect of some time-independent effective potential which is a sequence of deep "dynamic" quantum wells, where the charge carriers are localized. It is shown that the electron resonant tunneling may occur in this structure.

In this study, a mathematically polymeric insulator material is modeled which is used as a solid insulator in the industry. ASTM D 2303 in inclined plane test method is utilized in order to observe mechanical effect of vibration. The materials have different deformation times before they are fatigued or not fatigued. Our goal is the mathematical model which has materials at progressive times.

The Lie group method is applied to the third order variant Boussinesq system, which arises in the modelling of the water waves. The symmetry reductions and invariant solutions are obtained with respect to Lie point symmetry generators of the underlying system. Optical constants, dispersion and oscillator parameters of different thicknesses of amorphous $Ge_{25}Cd_5Se_{70}$ films have been deposited onto glass substrates using thermal evaporation technique. The optical constants have been investigated by optical spectrophotometry measurements. The straight forward analysis proposed by Swanepoel, which is based on the use of the extremes of the interference fringes has been used in order to derive the refractive index and the film thickness in μm range. The refractive index could be extrapolated by the Cauchy dispersion relationship over the whole spectral range, which extended from 400 to 2500 nm. It is observed that, refractive index n increases with the film thickness. The possible optical transition is found to be allowed indirect transition with energy gap increase from 1.915 to 1.975 eV with increasing film thickness. The dispersion of the refractive index is discussed in terms of the Wemple-DiDomenico single oscillator model. The interband oscillator wavelength, the average oscillator strength, and the optical conductivity were estimated for different thicknesses of amorphous $Ge_{25}Cd_5Se_{70}$ films.

The spatial localization of the double-quantum NMR heteronuclear coherence transfer in solids, in the presence of a main magnetic field gradient is analyzed. The indirect detection procedure by which the dipolar order of the abundant spin system with I=1/2 is transferred to the double-quantum coherence of the quadrupole nucleus with S=1 and back to the I-spin dipolar order is considered. The slice profile and the cross-relaxation rates are evaluated as a function of the experimental parameters and the sample relevant NMR quantities. The possibility to use this slice selective procedure for imaging and volume localized spectroscopy of quadrupole nuclei in high magnetic fields is discussed.

Opis:
Self-consistent linear muffin-tin orbital method is used to calculate the band structure of ZnS/ZnSe (001) strained-layer superlattice and investigate the influence of hydrostatic pressure on the valence band offset (VBO). Three different strain modes corresponding to various values of the relative thicknesses of both materials are considered. A I → II type conversion associated with the conduction-band crossover between the ZnSe well and ZnS barrier layers is found in agreement with recent experimental data.
