Pressure dependences of intensities and decay rates of time-resolved luminescence of acetophenone, benzophenone, anthraquinone were used to obtain the efficiencies of vibrational and triplet-triplet energy transfer. It was shown that vibrational relaxation of the chosen molecules can be interpreted in terms of two consecutive processes: rapid collisional relaxation of molecules from initially prepared states to a vibrational distribution at T$\text{}_{vib}$ by vibration-vibration process and relaxation of this vibrational distribution to the thermal one (vibration-translation process). At relatively small internal energy < 10000 cm$\text{}^{-1}$, the collisional efficiencies of the vibration-vibration process in mixtures with polyatomic bath gases had values typical of processes with a supercollision contribution. Molecules relaxed from the upper vibrational level to the vibrational distribution after several collisions (2-3). The average energies transferred per collision are well correlated with predictions of the simple ergodic theory of collisional energy transfer. The majority of the collisions took part only in vibration-translation energy transfer of relatively small energies. The efficiencies of triplet-triplet energy transfer were analyzed for acetophenone, benzophenone and anthraquinone as donors and biacetyl-acceptor in a gas phase when energy of about 20000 cm$\text{}^{-1}$ was transferred. It permitted us to elucidate the common features of highly energetic collisions. It was shown that the efficiencies are much lower than the gas kinetic ones and depended on the vibrational energy and temperature. It was discussed how to enhance triplet-triplet efficiencies due to vibrational excitation of a donor molecule.

Absorption spectra of SrLaAlO$\text{}_{4}$ and SrLaGaO$\text{}_{4}$ single crystals are investigated as well as their changes after irradiation by γ-quanta ($\text{}^{60}$Co source). Both crystals reveal a similar behaviour that is caused, as it seems, by the same nature of colour centres in them. The conclusion that oxygen defects as well as Fe impurities play a significant role in the colour centres formation in these crystals.

In the present study, the effect of α₂-phase (Ti₃Al) on the wear behavior of the titanium alloys is investigated by adding different amounts of (0.3-0.5%) Fe to the Ti8Al2.5Sn and Ti5Al2.5Sn alloys, which are produced by the mechanical alloying. The pre-formed green compacts were sintered at 1200°C for one hour. The sintered samples were characterized by scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, and the hardness and density measurements. The wear tests were performed under 30 N load, at four different sliding distances (400-1600 m) and with a constant speed of 1 ms¯¹. As a result of the study, it was understood that the α₂-phase (Ti₃Al) in the structure occurred at the grain boundary during the sintering process. With an increase in Fe addition to the Ti8Al2.5Sn and Ti5Al2.5Sn alloys, the density and hardness of the alloy increased as well. As a result of the wear tests, it was determined that the least weight loss occurred in Ti5Al2.5Sn alloy with a 0.5% Fe addition.

Motivated by metallurgical and geophysical applications we present a mathematical model describing the process of unidirectional solidification of binary melts or solutions, which is based on the classical Stefan thermodiffusion theory with a planar front up to a time of mushy layer initiation and on the quasi-equilibrium theory of solidification with a constitutionally supercooled region afterwards. The role of boundary conditions imposed at the cooled wall is studied in terms of heat flux coefficients describing ultimately nonlinear dynamics of the process.

The spatial localization of the double-quantum NMR heteronuclear coherence transfer in solids, in the presence of a main magnetic field gradient is analyzed. The indirect detection procedure by which the dipolar order of the abundant spin system with I=1/2 is transferred to the double-quantum coherence of the quadrupole nucleus with S=1 and back to the I-spin dipolar order is considered. The slice profile and the cross-relaxation rates are evaluated as a function of the experimental parameters and the sample relevant NMR quantities. The possibility to use this slice selective procedure for imaging and volume localized spectroscopy of quadrupole nuclei in high magnetic fields is discussed.

Opis:
The existence of a strong spatial localization for the efficiency of cross-polarization by single quantum transition in the presence of a main field gradient was evidenced . The case of the solids with strong dipolar interactions has been analyzed. The slice profile of the transferred polarization was evaluated for different cross-polarization procedures. The spatial localization is superior as compared with the spin-locking slice selection method.

Opis:
The effective magnetic momentum p$\text{}_{eff}$ of Gd-impurities in the Pb$\text{}_{1-x}$Sn$\text{}_{x}$Te⟨Gd⟩ crystals as a function of crystal composition x with 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.25 is studied. It is shown that with the increase in tin content in the crystals from 0 to 0.15, p$\text{}_{eff}^{2}$(Gd) increases slowly from 37 to 43. Then p$\text{}_{eff}^{2}$(Gd) increases abruptly to 63 value when x = 0.16±0.01. For subsequent increase x ≥ 0.17 p$\text{}_{eff}^{2}$(Gd) remains constant at 63. Possible reasons of observed changes of p$\text{}_{eff}$(Gd) and possible mechanisms of influence of the Pb$\text{}_{1-x}$Sn$\text{}_{x}$Te crystal field on the effective magnetic momentum value of Gd-impurities in the crystals under study are analysed.

The radiation is used in a wide range of medical fields, in diagnosis and treatment. Certain body parts, like thyroid, are more specifically affected by exposure to different types of radiation sources. The thyroid is highly susceptible to radiation carcinogenesis and exposure to ionising radiation is the only established cause of thyroid cancer. In this study, we have examined radiation doses measured during diagnosis which used dental panoramic radiography. The measurement has been performed in the Suleyman Demirel University, at PlanmecaProMax 3D (cone beam) imaging unit. The device operates at 66-70 kV, 8-10/22 mA/s.

Membrane fluidity measurements were performed for synthetic DPPC liposomes sonicated in aqueous solution and doped by Plesiomonas shigelloides strain CNCTC 144/92 (serotype O74:H5) lipopolysaccharide (LPS) extracted from the phenol (LPS_{PhOH}) and water (LPS_{H₂O}) phases. Concentrations of LPS in relation to DPPC ranged from 0 to 1.4% (molar ratio). The EPR spin probe method was used to describe physicochemical properties of different regions of the lipid bilayer. Since TEMPO spin probe dissolves both in the hydrophobic region of the membrane and in an aquatic environment it is possible to determine the spectroscopic partition parameter F, indicating the changes that occur in the water-lipid interface. The 16-DOXYL probe distributed in the middle of the lipid bilayer makes it possible to obtain the rotational correlation time τ parameter, which provides information about fluidity changes in the liposome membrane. Here we report that increasing concentrations (mainly in the range of 0.4-0.8%) of investigated LPS_{PhOH} and LPS_{H₂O} significantly influence spectroscopic parameters (F and τ). The surface area of the DPPC liposomes membranes was affected predominantly by LPS_{H₂O} while the lipid bilayer was most influenced by LPS_{PhOH}.

Elastically backscattered electrons and electron energy losses were measured for the Co/Cu(110) system at different incidence angles of the primary electron beam to obtain the directional elastic peak electron spectroscopy and directional electron energy loss spectroscopy profiles. The measurements were performed for clean and covered Cu(110) by equivalent quantities of 3 ML and 5 ML of Co. The directional elastic peak electron spectroscopy profiles show a similar distribution of intensity maxima for Cu(110) and Co/Cu(110), which indicates the epitaxial growth of Co layers. The chemical sensitive signal of electron energy losses (Cu and Co 3 $p_{3//2}$) recorded as a function of the incidence angle of primaries is characterized by modulations which reflect the order within the first few atomic layers of the investigated sample. Therefore, in the case of directional electron energy loss spectroscopy both the chemical and structural information is obtained.

Absorption of electromagnetic waves by graphene-magnetic semiconductor multilayered structure has been investigated for the Voight geometry with taking into account the dissipation processes. The possibility of control of electrodynamic properties of the structure by an external magnetic field, changing in number of periods of the structure, chemical potential of the graphene layers and temperature has been shown. Electrodynamics of the structure is also sensitive to polarization of the incident wave. The structure shows to be especially controllable at terahertz frequencies.

Opis:
Nanocrystalline porous silicon films, which have been formed by using simple wet electrochemical etching process in HF electrolyte, were applied for passivation of high power silicon diodes. An optimal technology was designed to manufacture a uniform layer of porous silicon over the area of the p-n junction. The 8% increase in the yield was achieved onO100 mm diameter wafers with 69 cells of diodes in each, by using a very simple technology for the formation of porous layer for passivation of high power silicon diodes.

Biomolecular recognition is an open scientific problem, which has been investigated in many theoretical and experimental aspects. In that sense, there are encouraging results within Resonant Recognition Model (RRM), based on the finding that there is a significant correlation between spectra of the numerical presentation of amino acids in the primary structure of proteins and their biological activity. It has been found through an extensive research that proteins with the same biological function have a common frequency in their numerical spectra. This frequency was found then to be a characteristic feature for protein biological function or interaction The RRM model proposes that the selectivity of protein interactions is based on resonant energy transfer between interacting biomolecules and that this energy, electromagnetic in its nature, is in the frequency range of $10^{13}$ to $10^{15}$ Hz, which incorporates infra-red (IR), visible and a small portion of the ultra-violet (UV) radiation. In this paper, the quantum mechanical basis of the RRM model will be investigated using the solution in the simplified framework of Hückel-like theory of molecular orbits.
