Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to determine the effect of infrasound noise from wind turbines (up to 20 Hz) on the changes in the EEG signal patterns in humans. The experimental study was undertaken to investigate the effect of a 20 minutes long infrasound exposure on humans. The acoustic signal was recorded at a distance of 750 meters from the wind turbine and the frequency components above 20 Hz were then filtered out. Research work undertaken so far to investigate the impacts of wind turbine noise on humans would mostly rely on questionnaire tools and subjective assessment given by respondents. This study focuses on the effects of infrasound noise from wind turbines on variations of EEG signal patterns in an attempt to develop a more objective measure of the infrasound noise impacts. The experimenal study was conducted in a pressure cabin where the EEG procedure was performed. Analysis of the EEG signals reveals the changes between the EEG patterns registered during the three successive stages of the study. The results indicate some changes in EEG signal patterns registered under exposure to wind turbine noise. Moreover, the specific frequency ranges of the EEG signals are found to be altered.

Optical waveguides are fundamental components of chemical and biochemical evanescent wave sensors. Presented work is devoted to theoretical investigations of homogeneous and surface sensitivity characteristics of the inverted rib waveguide structure. The inverted rib waveguide discussed in this paper is composed of an ion-exchange based channel waveguide formed in a glassy substrate and a uniform, high refractive index, sol-gel derived $SiO_2-TiO_2$ film. Characteristics of a homogeneous sensitivity, a surface sensitivity and fundamental modes sensitivity differences in function of a uniform film thickness and a maximal refractive index contrast of the gradient index channel waveguide are given. The influence of the $SiO_2-TiO_2$ film thickness on sensitivity characteristics is discussed. The analysis is carried out on a bases off the effective index method used with the transfer matrix method.

Opis:
Binaural beats are subjective hearing sensations, which occur when one of tone signals is applied to one ear, and the other one, with a slightly different frequency is applied to the second ear. A listener then receives a resultant sound with an amplitude which changes with a frequency equal to the difference of frequency of applied signals. The aim of this thesis was to examine the influence of binaural beats on changes in the morphology of the brain bioelectrical signal. Verification of previous studies, such as stimulation of binaural beats affects the brain and can cause changes in other frequency bands. Previous studies have been conducted on individual leads and dealt with the occurrence of follow up effect. In the research there were used binaural beats with a frequency of f=10 Hz. The left ear was exposed to a signal with a frequency of 100 Hz, and the right ear - to a signal with a frequency of 110 Hz, the acoustic pressure level SPL = 73 dB. The research was conducted on a sample group of 20 people. The analysis of average amplitudes of spectral density function of EEG strength signal proved that the exposition of binaural beats brought about a follow-up effect, which means that a component frequency in the EEG signal morphology was observed which corresponds with a frequency of the exposed binaural beats. It was also noted that during the exposition of binaural beats, there occurs a statistically significant decrease of average amplitudes of spectral density function of EEG strength signal for alpha and beta frequency ranges. However, it was observed that the amplitude of spectral density function of the strength has increased in theta frequency range.

The paper summarises the results of experiments carried out to investigate the effect of a narrow-band noise in the range 4-8 Hz and of the acoustic pressure SPL = 110 dB(HP) on the alpha waves in the EEG signal. The test group included 23 males aged 21-33. It is found out that white noise in the infrasound range 4-8Hz leads to changes of amplitudes of the spectral power density of alpha waves. The tests reveal a statistically significant reduction of the alpha wave amplitude during the infrasound exposure and an amplitude increase when the exposure is over.

This paper presents the main optical devices used to prepare a beam from X-ray synchrotron source: monochromators, flat or curved in order to intercept a larger angular divergence at the sample, mirrors and, finally, optics for polarized X-ray experiments. Since X-ray optics is based either on total reflection or on diffraction by perfect crystals, the basic fundamental results of X-ray dynamical theory, which are necessary to understand the reasons why one device should be chosen rather than the other, are also presented.

Temperature dependence of resitivity, ρ(T), thermopower, S$\text{}_{300}$, superconducting transition temperature, T$\text{}_{c}$, and lower critical field, Η$\text{}_{c1}$(0), of differently doped REBa$\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{7-x}$ ceramics have been measured. The hole doping of the CuO$\text{}_{2}$ plane is determined by the T$\text{}_{c}$, the oxygen concentration and/or the value of the thermopower. The temperature dependence of the resistivity above 200 K and the values of the lower critical field H$\text{}_{c1}$(0) show clear dependence on the hole concentration. Below 200 K, in contrast to simple metals, the resitivity of all samples decreases faster than linearly with the decreasing temperature. Classical electron-phonon scattering mechanism is not appropriate to describe the ρ(T) curves of REBa$\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{7-x}$ compounds. Some observed features of the ρ(T) dependence are predicted by mean field phase diagram for the CuO$\text{}_{2}$ plane.

Opis:
For effective excimer laser pumping high voltage pulses with the pulse duration of 100 ns and energies from a fraction of joules to some 10 joules are necessary. For the generation of these pulses traditionally Thyratron circuits are used. The limited lifetime and repetition rates of such a device does not fulfil not the requirements of a modern excimer laser. State of the art is a solid state circuit with IGBT switches, high voltage pulse transformer and pulse compression networks. Due to the many stages, complexity is high and efficiency is moderate. To overcome this limitation a new solid state circuit for excimer laser pumping is developed. The circuit works without magnetic pulse compression. The switch is made by a stack of "off the self" MOSFETs and SiC diodes. In the presentation the general design and its calculation, diode and switch qualification and test results are presented.

The equilibria between pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate and Eu(III) in H$\text{}_{2}$O or D$\text{}_{2}$O cetyltrimethylammonium bromide micellar solutions at room temperature have been made as a function of the ligand concentration and pH by excitation spectroscopy and emission decay measurements. Formation of the tris-complex is complete at [Eu$\text{}^{3+}$]:[pdc$\text{}^{2-}$] ≥ 1:4 at neutral to slightly alkaline conditions but is incomplete under acidic conditions. The $\text{}^{5}$D$\text{}_{0}$ lifetimes corresponding to the Eu(pdc)$\text{}_{3}^{3-}$ anion is observed to increase on association of the complex with the micellar surface due to exclusion of the solvating molecules from the second co-ordination sphere. Energy transfer in the bulk solution requires the presence of binuclear mixed Eu$\text{}^{3+}$ and Nd(pdc)$\text{}_{3}^{3-}$ complexes or confinement of the Ln(pdc)$\text{}_{3}^{3-}$/Eu$\text{}^{3+}$ on the micelle surface. Energy transfer from the Eu(pdc)$\text{}_{3}^{3-}$ anion is inefficient in the bulk solution.

It was proposed in the 1950's that X-rays could be used to probe magnetization densities. After some experimental demonstrations of the technique, applications have shown that the use of magnetic X-ray scattering combined with synchrotron radiation can lead to important new discoveries in the magnetism of solid materials. Several important features have emerged, especially the resonant magnetic X-ray scattering: large enhancements of scattered intensities, site and species selectivity, X-ray energy and polarization dependence. These properties make it possible to study new phenomena: details of magnetic structures of materials including micro-crystals, new aspects of magnetic phase transitions and surface magnetism.

Opis:
Neutron reflectometry is an important technique for studying the composition and structure of thin films and layered media on a nanometer scale. Neutrons are particularly useful as probes of organic and magnetic materials since the information that can be obtained is often unique. Furthermore, the fact that neutrons traverse relatively large distances in single crystalline materials, such as silicon, permit investigations in diverse sample environments. The fundamental theoretical principles and experimental methodology of neutron reflectometry are presented, in addition to several illustrative examples of measurements relevant to polymer science, biology, electrochemistry, and magnetism.

This study investigates how infrasound exposure should influence the electrocardiograph (ECG) patterns and the functioning of the cardiovascular system. Infrasound waves are widespread and common and now perceptible in the working environment (particularly in industry) as well as in the recreation grounds (natural sources of infrasounds). the main sources of infrasounds include heavy machines, transport and materials handling installations, as well as natural phenomena, such as blowing winds, storms or flowing waters. Research work has now established that low-frequency noise affects the morphology of the electric biopotentials of human brain and influence the blood pressure, the level of electrodermal activity and visual-motional coordination in humans. the effects of infrasounds on fluctuations of the ECG patterns have received little attention so far. This study summarises the research data to determine how low-frequency noise with frequency f = 7 Hz and the acoustic pressure level SPL=120 dB (HP) should influence the ECG patterns. Experiments were performed on a group of 33 participants. Thus obtained experimental data indicate that infrasound exposure leads to major changes in the functioning of human heart.

Opis:
The term "complexity" used frequently as a kind of "buzzword" has gained a specific role in the language of modern social sciences and social practice. A question is arising - how can we understand complexity of social systems/social phenomena which are characterized by limited possibility of explanation, unpredictability or low reliability of prediction? The aim of the paper is to provide a partial answer to this question. A survey of characteristics of complex systems and typology of various kinds of complexity, and of their sources is presented. It is also shown that broadly defined social systems (human systems) are affected by all kinds of complexity - they are "complexities of complexities". Using the typology of interpretations of complexity as an example, it is shown what are the limitations of transferring knowledge from physics, chemistry, information theory and biology to the studies of complexity of social systems. It is especially emphasized that mathematical models, which are treated as objective when applied in social sciences must be considered as an element of intersubjective discourse.

We analyze 2-dimensional chaotic forms resulting from very simple systems based on two chaotic characteristics that is rotation and parallel movement or translation in geometric terms. Reflection is another alternative, along with rotation, for several interesting chaotic formations. Rotation and translation are very common types of movements in the world around us. Chaotic or non-chaotic forms arise from these two main generators. The rotation-translation chaotic case presented is based on the theory we analyzed in the book and in the paper. An overview of the chaotic flows in rotation-translation is given. There is observed the presence of chaos when discrete rotation-translation equation forms are introduced. In such cases the continuous equations analogue of the discrete cases is useful. Characteristic cases and illustrations of chaotic attractors and forms are analyzed and simulated. The analysis of chaotic forms and attractors of the models presented is given along with an exploration of the characteristic or equilibrium points. Applications in the fields of astronomy-astrophysics (galaxies), chaotic advection (the sink problem) and Von Karman streets are presented.
