Opis:
The methods using femtosecond lasers are very popular in the world recently. They are used for different research methods. We begin to use a multi-photon autofluorescence method for cancer tissue detection. We plan to use this method with special photonic crystal fiber optic sensors. We would like to use to this detection femtosecond oscillator for 800 nm region. However, according to our information there is no fiber which can provide these femtosecond signals at 800 nm region without dispersion and nonlinear effect. Applying typical fiber causes dispersion of guided signals. Therefore we are preparing suitably designed fibers. Double-clad photonic fibers can play a dual role of ultrashort pulse delivery and efficient collection of nonlinear optical signals. In the paper a new design of double cladding small dispersion photonic crystal fiber is proposed. Simulations of both structure and dispersion in proposed fibers are presented.

Opis:
The article presents the results of Matlab simulations and experimental studies of non-contact influence of ultrasonic wave on laser beam. A role of the air-gap and the influence of the air-gap on laser-ultrasonic transmission in optical fiber were examined. Two optical fibers were used with air-gap between them. One fiber was attached to a laser diode and positioned to pass through a hole in a sandwich type transducer and in a velocity transformer. In the velocity transformer (at its end), after leaving small air-gap, to the end of the transformer, the other optical fiber is attached. The second fiber can interact with a given biological structure.

Opis:
Glass optical fibres are a promising medium for simultaneous laser-ultrasonic applications. The proposed application system is based on simultaneous transmission of laser radiation and ultrasounds in a flexible silica glass fibre. The optical fibre's core was made of $SiO_2$ (97%) and $GeO_2$ (3%) and the cladding was 100% $SiO_2$. The material the optical fibre is made of enables simultaneous transmission of laser radiation and ultrasonic wave. Experiments were performed using a Mach-Zehnder optical waveguide interferometer with single-mode optical fibre coupler. This paper presents measurement results for delivering ultrasonic waves to the optical fibre using longitudinal vibrations generated by a sandwich ultrasonic transducer with a velocity transformer. The study presents the relations concerning simultaneous operation of both types of waves and the possibilities of transmission of low frequency, high power ultrasonic wave in optical fibres using a sandwich type transducer.

Opis:
The key elements in cancer diagnostics are the early identification and estimation of the tumor growth and its spread in order to determine the area to be operated on. The aim of our study was to develop new methods of analyzing autofluorescence images which will allow us an objective and accurate assessment of the location of a tumor and will also be helpful in determining the advancement of the disease. The proposed classification methods are based on neural network algorithms. An Olympus company endoscopic system was used for an autofluorescence intestine imaging study. The autofluorescence imaging analysis process can be divided into several main stages. The first step is preparation of a training data set. The second one involves selection of feature space, namely the selection of those features which enable distinguishing the pathologically altered areas from the healthy ones. Final stages of the analysis include pathologically changed tissue classification and diagnosis.

Opis:
The paper presents optical fiber sensors for point investigation of cancer tissues. The construction of several sensors has been described, including selection of proper optical fiber as well as the construction of measuring head. Being part of medical endoscopes, presented sensors can be applied to investigate autofluorescence spectra in various tissue areas. The level of autofluorescence intensity indicates the stage of disease advancement. The paper presents the results of investigating autofluorescence spectra for different cancer tissues. Various areas of cancer tissues have been investigated in order to determine the level of disease advancement. In the paper new constructions of fluorescent fiber sensors are presented. The sensors were used to investigate human and animal normal and tumor tissues. The fiber sensors, possible to use in videoendoscopy, are very small. The comparative analysis of fluorescent spectra of normal and tumor tissues is presented.

Opis:
In this paper we describe the method of point investigation for cancer changed tissues with application of fluorescence phenomenon. The measurements have been made using a specially constructed scanning setup and fiber sensors. The experiment with investigation of endogenous fluorescence has been made on different types of slide tissues (e.g. breast and intestine tumor or precancerous and pathological skin tissues). The obtained spectral characteristics of fluorescence, with typical intensity peaks in 480-520 nm range, have explicitly outlined healthy and pathologically changed areas. The intensity of detected fluorescence determines the evaluation of disease advancement. Moreover, the ability to scan the surface of a tissue sample with constantly moving step of scanning setup in X-Y axis allows us to present the results in a spatial distribution of fluorescence intensity.
