We describe a new scheme for performing quantum key distribution. We present two physical implementations for the quantum key distribution system. The first implementation uses a type-II optical-parametric amplifier to generate the optical pulses which contain the key information. The second implementation uses correlated semiconductor emitters to generate the optical pulses.

The angle integrated resonant photoemission measurements of Cd$\text{}_{1-x}$Fe$\text{}_{x}$Se were performed for different Fe concentrations (x = 0.00, 0.07, 0.14) in the photon energy range between 30 eV and 70 eV using synchrotron radiation. The ternary compound valence band photoemission spectra show, in comparison to the CdSe results, two additional structures, whose intensity depends on Fe content, which were assigned to Fe 3d states of e symmetry with spin up and down, respectively. The hybridization of the t$\text{}_{2}$ component of the 3d electrons of Fe in the valence band is discussed.

We have theoretically and experimentally investigated the radiative recombination process in an n-type modulation doped GaAs/Al$\text{}_{0.35}$Ga$\text{}_{0.65}$As heterostructure. The dynamical reshaping of the potential profile across the heterojunction, and the decay of the spatially indirect radiative recombination between electrons in the two-dimensional electron gas and photo-created holes, have been numerically simulated for various values of the electric field across the heterojunction. Optical matrix elements were deduced from a self-consistent solution of the coupled Schrodinger and Poisson equations at every discrete point of time. The calculated recombination energies and integrated luminescence intensities were compared with experimental data from time-resolved photoluminescence measurements on an 800 Å wide GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure.

The equilibria between pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate and Eu(III) in H$\text{}_{2}$O or D$\text{}_{2}$O cetyltrimethylammonium bromide micellar solutions at room temperature have been made as a function of the ligand concentration and pH by excitation spectroscopy and emission decay measurements. Formation of the tris-complex is complete at [Eu$\text{}^{3+}$]:[pdc$\text{}^{2-}$] ≥ 1:4 at neutral to slightly alkaline conditions but is incomplete under acidic conditions. The $\text{}^{5}$D$\text{}_{0}$ lifetimes corresponding to the Eu(pdc)$\text{}_{3}^{3-}$ anion is observed to increase on association of the complex with the micellar surface due to exclusion of the solvating molecules from the second co-ordination sphere. Energy transfer in the bulk solution requires the presence of binuclear mixed Eu$\text{}^{3+}$ and Nd(pdc)$\text{}_{3}^{3-}$ complexes or confinement of the Ln(pdc)$\text{}_{3}^{3-}$/Eu$\text{}^{3+}$ on the micelle surface. Energy transfer from the Eu(pdc)$\text{}_{3}^{3-}$ anion is inefficient in the bulk solution.

Modification of the weighting raised cosine with a power n function by time convolution with auxiliary changeable time duration uniform rectangular window is presented in this paper. The analytical form of the modified weighting raised cosine function for fixed power in frequency domain was derived. Proposed method was applied to fine tuning of properties of the nonlinear frequency modulation of radar signals. Synthesis of nonlinear frequency modulation radar signals problem was solved using the well-known principle of stationary phase. The selected testing results are shown and some final conclusions are formulated.

Infrared spectroscopy is probably the oldest spectroscopic method applied to investigate materials and chemico-physical phenomena. Nowadays, infrared spectroscopy represents the characterization technique most applied in the industry and in many technological processes. In the last decades a significant progress has been achieved in the use of the intense and brilliant infrared emission from electron storage rings previously used only as VUV and X-ray sources. In the infrared range the low energy of the electron beam does not affect the synchrotron radiation spectral distribution, while high current will make storage rings the most brilliant infrared sources to be used for infrared spectroscopy and micro-spectroscopy. Infrared micro-spectroscopy is a unique technique that combines microscopy and spectroscopy for purposes of micro-analysis. Spatial resolution, within a microscopic field of view, is the goal of the modern infrared micro-spectroscopy applied to condensed matter physics, materials science, biophysics, and now to medicine. Although limited in spatial resolution, infrared is able to resolve chemistry using the contrast of the absorption lines. Fourier transform-infrared micro-spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation is now able to collect data with 2-4 cm^{-1} resolution on the scale of 10-100 seconds up to an area of a few microns opening a new scenario: infrared spectroscopy of entire cells and tissue. Moreover, distributions of functional groups such as proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids can be achieved inside a single living cell with a spatial resolution of a few microns.

Opis:
In this study, a rule-based Mamdani-type fuzzy logic (RBMFL) model was developed for prediction of compressive strength of lightweight concretes containing silica fume (SF) and fly ash (FA). Pumice was used as the aggregate in the concretes. In the concrete mixture 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% of fly ash and 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% of silica fume, for each value of fly ash content, were added by replacing the cement. The compressive strength of the lightweight concretes was investigated experimentally. Experimental results were used to construct the fuzzy logic model. In the study, the values obtained from the model and experiment were divided into five groups (each group has five experimental results), according to the FA and SF contents, to evaluate approximate reasoning ability of RBMFL model. As a result, RBMFL model has shown satisfying relation with experimental results, which suggests an alternative approach to evaluation of compressive strength of lightweight concretes containing silica fume and fly ash.

The aim of this paper is to calculate the equilibrium displacements of the $\text{}^4T_{2g}$ potential surface minimum from the ground state along the $a_{1g}$ and $e_g$ Jahn-Teller active modes for the octahedral $[MnF_6]^{2-}$ cluster obtained by doping $Mn^{4+}$ ions in $Cs_2SiF_6$ host crystal. The equilibrium displacements in normal and Cartesian coordinates were estimated from force constants of $[MnF_6]^{2-}$ cluster and Huang-Rhys factors associated with the Jahn-Teller stabilization energy. A net equatorial expansion and an axial stretching of the geometry of the $[MnF_6]_{2-}$ cluster in first $\text{}^4T_{2g}$ excited state, as combined effect of the $a_{1g}$ and $e_g$ displacements, were demonstrated.

In the present work we employ the master-equation approach to describe the transport through a molecule located in the central region between two external electrodes. In contrast to the transport through a quantum dot, electron-phonon coupling should be taken into account for tunnelling through a molecule. The coupling results in the appearance of additional effects such as vibrational sidebands or, for the case of strong coupling, a suppression of the current at low bias voltage (Franck-Condon blockade). In contrast to previous studies, the transport properties are described by the density matrix calculated explicitly with diagonal and off-diagonal elements. The observed phenomena are discussed and compared to previous studies.

Coupled nonlinear integrable systems in (2+1) dimension are generated from a matrix Schrodinger-type inverse problem and solved explicitly to demonstrate a new phenomenon of overturning. Both, the two- and three-dimensional graphical depictions of the solution are presented. Our analysis is an extension of the uncoupled case reported earlier by Bogoyavlenskii. A unique feature of the solution is the occurrence of arbitrary functions of (y, t) in its functional form, which significantly changes the behaviour of the solution.

We analyze the effects of a large spin-orbit coupling on the magnetic state of a d¹ transition-metal ion located in a tetrahedral environment. While in the ideal tetrahedral symmetry the spin-orbit coupling acts only as a perturbation on the atomic energy levels set by the crystal-field splitting, we demonstrate that its effects are strongly enhanced in the case of distorted geometries. In particular, we consider the specific case in which the tetrahedron is compressed along the z direction, and show that, by increasing the degree of flattening, a large spin-orbit interaction (i) can induce a substantial anisotropic, unquenched orbital momentum and (ii) can affect the hierarchy of the lowest energy levels that are involved in the magnetic exchange.

The optimization of the transmitted signal time-frequency structure is the very important part of the radar system design from the point of view of the radar system effectiveness. In this meaning the radar ambiguity function is the basic tool used for the radar system features testing. The synthesis procedure of the signal with simultaneous amplitude and phase manipulation is presented in the paper. The procedure is based on the Zak transform that is connected with the radar ambiguity function. The Legendre polynomials were applied in the procedure mentioned above. The results of the simulation tests are presented as examples of the consideration main effects.

High-field ionization suppression in a classical Kepler ensemble is discussed in terms of optimization with respect to pulse turn-on rate as well as pre-pulse preparation. It is argued that high-field ionization suppression is best understood in terms of reduced probability of ionization for pulsed fields, whereas for a quasi-steady field, high-field ionization suppression implies a reduced ionization rate at higher intensities. The classical ensemble is used to calculate the high-field ionization rate of a one-dimensional atomic model using a Gaussian short-range potential and the results are compared with high-frequency Floquet theory results recently reported by other authors. Better than qualitative agreement is found and the results are compared and discussed in terms of quantum superposition and classical interference. Finally, high-field ionization suppression is discussed in relation to statistical relative stability of classical orbits of the ensemble, and classical interference for both short- and long-range potentials. Correspondence with quantum superposition is interpreted in relation to quantum-classical correspondence.
