Magnesium single crystals of purity (99.8 wt%) deformed to stage B on the work-hardening curve at the temperature of 293 K and at a strain rate of $10^{-3} s^{-1}$ were investigated. The modified Bridgman method was used to obtain the crystals of the preferred orientation of (0001)〈$11\overline{2}0$〉 as primary slip system. By using the method based on the experimental gradient matrix, the activity of slip systems was obtained in magnesium single crystals deformed to shear strain 1.2 γ, where well developed stage B of work hardening was observed. It was shown that primary (0001)〈$11\overline{2}0$〉 slip system was dominant in the whole investigated range of the examined deformation. The observation and analysis of etch pits on the {$\overline{1}2\overline{1}0$} plane showed the heterogeneous distribution of dislocations formed during deformation into walls of dislocations perpendicular to the (0001) slip plane. The suggested model of work hardening of magnesium single crystals, which is worth taking into consideration, shows the influence of the long-range stress field derivating from the groups of dislocations arranged in dislocation walls.

Opis:
A new parameter δ based on 3γ annihilation is proposed. It describes the porosity of the materials containing small intermolecular voids below 1 nm. It can be applied to material investigation to compare changes in the material porosity depending on temperature or pressure as well as to study of ageing or manufacturing processes. Particularly it is dedicated to prepare the new imaging method and can be used during positron emission tomography diagnosis allowing determination the kind or stage of pathogenic alteration.

In this study, natural radioactivity concentration in the surface soils along the Yeşilırmak river in Amasya have been investigated. The activity concentrations of radionuclides of the ²²⁶Ra and ²³²Th decay chains and of the ⁴⁰K were determined by means of gamma-ray spectrometry measurements made using a 3 × 3'' NaI(Tl) detector system. Concerning radiological risk, the absorbed gamma dose in air from those soils and the outdoor annual effective dose equivalent were calculated.

Magnesium single crystals of three different orientations were deformed by tension at room temperature to investigate the geometrical criterion resulting from the Schmid law for activation of basal and non-basal slip systems. Changes of crystallographic orientations of investigated single crystals were systematically measured during deformation and the geometrical criterion was examined in respect to the changes of crystallographic orientations during deformation. The geometrical criterion itself failed to explain lack of activity of non-basal slip systems in the deformed magnesium single crystals. Therefore the ratio of activation volumes of soft to hard slip systems is considered to be introduced for a better understanding of the deformation in hcp metals.

The influence of borosilicate (BS) addition on the mechanical properties and sinterability of yttria-stabilized zirconia (8YSZ) was investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Vickers-hardness test. Undoped and 0.5-10 wt.% BS-doped 8YSZ powders were prepared using a colloidal process. The powders were then pelletized under a pressure of 200 MPa. The BS-doped 8YSZ specimens were sintered at 1200-1400°C for 1 h. SEM results showed that intergranular glass phases were formed at the grain boundaries of 8YSZ, particularly in the 5 and 10 wt.% BS-doped 8YSZ specimens. These intergranular glass phases caused a decrease in grain size of 8YSZ. The grain sizes of the undoped and 0.5 wt% BS-doped 8YSZ specimens were 2.68 μm and 1.83 μm, respectively. The addition of BS to 8YSZ caused a decrease in the relative density. In addition, the relative density was found to be increased with higher sintering temperature. The hardness of 8YSZ decreased with the increase in BS dopant amount, due to presence at the grain boundaries of a BS glassy phase that has a lower hardness than 8YSZ.

In the present work gamma attenuation behavior of some commonly used commercial stainless steels and boron steels were investigated. 303, 304, 310, 316, 430 stainless steels and ZF7B, 27M12C5B, 30MNB5 boron steels were studied against Cs-137 and Co-60 gamma radioisotopes. The linear and mass attenuation coefficients of the samples were measured by using gamma transmission technique. Mass attenuation coefficients were compared with the theoretical values which were calculated by using XCOM computer code. Theoretical and experimental mass attenuations were closed to each other. In addition half-value thickness (HVT) values of the samples were calculated and compared with the results of lead (Pb). European Union has published the directive in 2002 and recast in 2011 about Restriction of Some Hazardous Substances (RoHS) which included Pb. This study shows that 303, 304, 310 and 316 stainless steels and ZF7B, 27M12C5B, 30MNB5 boron steels are some of the candidate materials for using in gamma shielding applications instead of lead.

Opis:
The heat loss at ground contact structures is taken into consideration in building heat loss calculations. However, it implies uncertainties due to the physical properties of the soil as well as the building structure. In this paper, new methods are introduced for calculating the heat loss at ground contact structures. Firstly, it examines the presently used and general calculation methods and their shortcomings. Then a simple-to-use method based on thousands of results of parametrized transient finite element thermal models is shown. In this research, the calculations take the middle-eastern European climate conditions, geothermal gradient and soil properties as well as the relevant harmonized EU standards into account. The equivalent linear heat transfer coefficients, which in this method also contain the effects of thermal bridges, occurring in various conditions are summarized in a table and can be calculated by new formulae also shown in the paper using condition-dependent constants, the ground floor's heat transfer coefficient and the length between the floor and ground level.

III-V based alloys and heterostructures have got much attention due to their great device applications as well as for the development of electronic, optic and optoelectronic devices. Because of this reason, the present study reports an investigation about the band gap properties of $BBi_{1-x}N_{x}$ (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) ternary alloy in zinc-blende phase. The results of studied binary (BN and BBi) and ternary $BBi_{1-x}N_{x}$ alloy structures are presented by means of density functional theory within the Wu-Cohen exchange correlation potential based on generalized gradient approximation. We have implemented geometric optimization before the volume optimization calculations for all studied alloys structure. The obtained equilibrium lattice constants of studied binary compounds are in coincidence with experimental works. The band gap character (direct/indirect or negative) of ternary $BBi_{1-x}N_{x}$ alloys is also investigated.

Positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy was applied to investigate the microcapsules composed of n-eicosane (filling material) and polysiloxane polymer (shell) in the range of temperatures 123-333 K. Pure components of microcapsules were also investigated as a base for interpretation of the measurement results. The temperature of phase transitions in microcapsules was determined. It showed the appearance of a rotary phase, which is not present in pure n-eicosane. In the considered material, two types of free volume have been identified. The sizes of free volumes able to accommodate Ps were estimated using standard models. On the basis of the o-Ps intensities, the content of polysiloxane in microcapsules was estimated as about 40%. Internal structure of the microcapsules (morphology) was observed by scanning electron microscopy.

This work presents transport properties of $xVN-(100-x)SiO_{2}$ (where x = 90, 80, 70, 60 mol%) films. The films were prepared by thermal nitridation of sol-gel derived $V_{2}O_{3}-SiO_{2}$ (in proper molar ratio) coatings. The coatings obtained by sol-gel method are especially suitable for the ammonolysis because of their porosity. The microporous structure allows both a significant incorporation of nitrogen and its distribution through the film. The nitridation process of $V_{2}O_{3}-SiO_{2}$ coatings leads to the formation of disordered structures, with VN metallic grains dispersed in the matrix of insulating $SiO_{2}$. The critical temperatures of the superconducting transition of the samples $T_\text{conset}$ are about 7.5 K.

We review here the magnetic properties of some strongly correlated electron systems and especially cerium and uranium compounds. The normal Kondo lattice model with a localized S=1/2 spin can account for the Kondo-magnetism competition observed in cerium or ytterbium systems, while the underscreened Kondo lattice model with a localized S=1 spin can well account for the ferromagnetism - Kondo coexistence observed in some uranium compounds such as UTe. Then, we discuss the spin glass-Kondo competition and present the resulting phase diagrams showing spin glass, Kondo and magnetically ordered phases observed in disordered heavy fermion cerium alloys such as $CeNi_xCu_{1-x}$ alloys.

Opis:
The resonance fluorescence spectrum of an ensemble of two-level atoms driven by two classical, frequency degenerate and noncollinear laser beams is investigated. It has been found that the spatially-averaged resonance fluorescence spectra differ significantly from the spectra of two-level atoms calculated for the single-beam excitation. The differences were noticed in the number of peaks, their positions and shapes and in their dependences on an angle between wave vectors of the incident beams.
