Opis:
The analysis of normal modes of vibrations was performed for acridine dimer, which has been recently observed and identified by laser-induced emission spectroscopy under conditions of jet-cooling in a supersonic helium expansion. The frequencies and the forms of normal vibrations, computed with the use of the semi-empirical PM3 method are classifying all vibrations of acridine dimer into two distinct categories of inter- and intramolecular vibrations. There are six low-frequency intermolecular normal vibrations which are characterizing relative movements of two acridine moieties in the dimer and at least two of them have vibrational frequencies which are close to the frequencies of vibronic bands observed in the fluorescence excitation spectrum of the dimer. The intramolecular normal vibrations of the dimer very strictly correspond to the normal vibrations of acridine molecule (with a minor modification of the vibrational frequencies due to the splitting in the dimer). Furthermore, the intramolecular vibrations of acridine dimer, as well as the vibrations of acridine molecule are in good agreement with available experimental data (either IR and Raman spectra of acridine or fluorescence excitation spectrum of acridine dimer in supersonic jet). The results of the present analysis are very clearly supporting the previous conclusions concerning the ground-state equilibrium structure of acridine dimer formed under jet-cooling conditions.

Opis:
The present paper is focussed on the search of technology of new kinds of optical fibers characterised by good magnetooptical properties. The elaborated optical fibres are to apply in optical sensors of electric current and the magnetic field. In result of these researches and analyses a new optical fibre was put forward. Such optical fibers were designed, produced and subjected to extensive tests. This paper presents the results of investigations that were carried out as well as the parameters of the tested structures.

Opis:
Temperature dependence of the mode dispersion is investigated for commercially available polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) based step-index polymer optical fibers. An analytical expression is proposed describing the thermal variation of the fiber refractive index. This index decreases with increasing temperature as density of the polymer material drops. The study covered the temperature range from -60°C to 100°C. Results show that the modal dispersion decreases and the bandwidth increases with rising temperature.

Opis:
The pressure dependence of the Raman linewidths for the $ν_1$ breathing mode is analyzed using the experimental data from the literature for the solid phases (I, II, III and III') in benzene. Increase (I, III and III') and decrease (II) in the Raman linewidths are described by a power-law analysis with the critical exponent β. The β values we find, which characterize the phase transition are in favour of the first order among those phases considered in benzene. The temperature and pressure dependence of the frequencies and linewidths of various Raman modes can be analyzed using a power-law formula, as studied here for the solid phases (I, II, III and III') in benzene when the experimental data are available in the literature.

Opis:
Using the power flow equation, we have examined mode coupling in a step-index multimode glass optical fiber. As a result, the coupling length at which the equilibrium mode distribution is achieved and the length of fiber required for achieving the steady-state mode distribution are obtained. These lengths are much longer for glass fiber than they are for plastic optical fibers. Our results are in good agreement with experimental results reported earlier.

Opis:
We studied the polarization properties of four photonic band gap fibers with elliptical core and different cladding geometries. To do so we relied on a fully vectorial calculation method, which uses a hybrid edge/nodal finite element approach with perfectly matched layer absorbing boundary conditions. We determined the spectral dependence of the confinement loss for the fundamental modes of orthogonal polarizations. Our results show that, for the four structures studied, the polarization dependent loss is so high that they can be used as fiber-optic polarizers in the full band gap range.

Opis:
Temperature behavior of the optical birefringence in the transitional regions of the incommensurate phase of [N(CH$\text{}_{3}$)]CuCl$\text{}_{4}$ was studied. Temperature dependencies of the modulated structure wave vector and of the specific heat in these regions were analyzed. The stochastic mode of the incommensurate modulated structure in [N(CH$\text{}_{3}$)]MeCl$\text{}_{4}$ (Me = Cu, Fe) dielectric crystals was discovered.
