Opis:
The phosphosilicate for planar waveguides fabrication by using sol-gel, and particularly erbium-doped waveguide amplifiers, is reviewed. In particular, efforts to use sol-gel to improve molecular homogeneity in Er-doped phosphosilicate-based monolith and thin films will be discussed. A variety of material studies was carried out to investigate and optimize the sample preparation condition for such application. These include X-ray diffraction, the Fourier transform infrared and optical transmittance, absorption and refractive index calculation. The erbium nitrate precursors use is shown to alter the Er³⁺ ions doping in the prepared samples thermally treated in the final monolith glass form, in comparison to the use of thin film phosphosilicate sol-gel sample. Excess heat treatment is used to force prepared samples crystallization, moreover resulting photoluminescence analysis is used to detect the co-operative-up-conversion sample properties before and after heating.

Opis:
The electronic and magnetic properties as well as the applications of IV-VI semiconductors with rare earth ions of Eu and Yb are briefly discussed. The detailed analysis is presented of the recent experimental investigations of the magnetic and transport properties of IV-VI semimagnetic crystals with Gd. It concerns, in particular, the effect of Fermi level position controlled f-f exchange interaction between Gd ions in Sn$\text{}_{1-x}$Gd$\text{}_{x}$Te.

Opis:
X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy experiments on SnTe crystals doped by Sm, Eu, and Yb were performed to determine the valency of these ions in the SnTe matrix. The analysis of the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy valence-band spectra revealed that Eu and Yb are divalent while Sm is trivalent in SnTe. These conclusions were confirmed by studies of the binding energies of core levels (4d-levels of Yb and 3d -levels of Sm and Eu), which are not presented here.

Opis:
The trajectory dependent scattering of Li ions by Al substrate is studied. It is shown that besides primary elastic peak there exists a subsidiary peak about one-third energy of incident ions. The dependence of trajectory is achieved by shifting of the incident beam along x axis. The results have been compared with the results of Na scattering that have been published recently.

The collisional-radiative equilibrium model has been developed in order to investigate the population inversion on aluminum plasma. The population inversion has been established between lower 3s ($\text{}^{3}$P$\text{}_{1}^{0}$,$\text{}^{1}$P$\text{}_{1}^{0}$) and upper 3p ($\text{}^{3}$P$\text{}_{0}$,$\text{}^{1}$S$\text{}_{0}$) levels. The vacuum ultra-violet lasing on neon-like aluminum ions provides wavelengths of 111.9 nm, 143.2 nm, 157.3 nm. The rate of relative density population, between lower 3s $\text{}^{1}$P$\text{}_{1}^{0}$ and upper 3p $\text{}^{3}$P$\text{}_{0}$ levels, reaches its highest value of 7.16 at the electron density of 10$\text{}^{19}$ cm$\text{}^{-3}$. The modified expression of optical escape factor, in the case of Doppler profile, was introduced in the calculation of opacity effect on the gain magnitudes. The resonance radiation trapping by 3d configuration alters drastically the gain values. A gain greater than 1 cm$\text{}^{-1}$ was found between lasing levels 3s $\text{}^{3}$P$\text{}_{1}^{0}$ and 3p $\text{}^{3}$P$\text{}_{0}$. The enhancement of gain was due to the pumping of the upper level by dielectronic recombination process from the ground state of fluorine-like and by the inner-shell ionization process from excited levels of sodium-like ions.

Velocities and scattering of transverse elastic wave propagating in the triglycine sulphate crystal doped with the Cr$\text{}^{3+}$ ions as a function of temperature and electric field which polarises the crystal were examined. Temperature dependencies of modulus of elasticity S$\text{}_{55}$ and modulus of rigidity C$\text{}_{55}$ as a function of temperature and an electric field were determined. The results were analysed and discussed.

In this work, several phenomena related to carbon ion implantation into Si(100) targets were simulated. The investigation was performed using Crystal-TRIM code (crystal-transport and range of ions in matter) under different conditions. In particular, we simulated the carbon profiles with respect to: (i) ions beam (energy, dose, orientation); (ii) substrate (temperature, crystallographic orientation). Two particular cases were taken into account: (i) implantation of 80 keV C⁺ to a fluence of 2.7× 10¹⁷ ion/cm² at room temperature; (ii) implantation of 40 keV C⁺ to a fluence of 6.5× 10¹⁷ ion/cm² at substrate temperature of 400°C. For both cases, we used a tilt angle of 7°. Several results were obtained and compared with the Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy and elastic recoil detection analysis results provided by literature.

The electronic characteristics of H- to Be-like ions immersed in degenerate electron gas were calculated. The ion was described within the Hartree- Fock-Slater formalism and the medium by the dielectric function. The ion's electrons repulsion, screening and exchange effects and, additionally, the self-binding of an electron due to the polarisation of the medium were included in the description. The results were compared with the reference corresponding to the characteristics for ions in vacuum.

The factors which efficiently reduce nonradiative energy degradation of the lanthanide ion fluorescence are described. The most sensitive systems in spectrofluorimetric determination of trace amounts of lanthanide ions based on the complex formation, intramolecular energy transfer and mixed complexes with synergic agents in a liquid phase, are presented. Detection limits of highly sensitive systems obtained with the use of conventional and laser-excited spectrofluorimetry for Sm(III), Eu(III), Tb(III) and Dy(III) are compared.

Deep level centers in GaAs implanted with light ions (H$\text{}^{+}$, He$\text{}^{+}$) were studied by means of deep level transient spectroscopy, double correlation deep level transient spectroscopy and capacity voltage carrier profiling directly after the implantation process and after annealing at various temperatures. Five different electron traps with energy positions between 0.13-0.75 eV are detected. From the evaluated defect production and carrier trapping yields and their annealing behavior we conclude that each of these traps efficiently contributes to the trapping of free carriers. The EL2 defect is created in too low concentrations in order to significantly account for the removal of free carriers.

Luminescent properties of the PbWO₄ crystals undoped and doped with the Yb³⁺ ions were studied. Emission spectra of the crystals consist of broadband matrix emission in 350-750 nm spectral range and narrow spectral lines caused by inner electron transitions in the impurity Yb³⁺ ions in 920-1040 nm spectral range. Analysis of the linear spectra has shown that Yb³⁺ ions form two types of emission centres. Structures of these centers are discussed taking into account possibility of the impurity ions incorporation in different positions (Pb and W sites) in the crystal lattice. Effects of the Yb³⁺ impurities on matrix emission were studied. Transfer of excitation energy from matrix to the Yb³⁺ decreases intensity of the red band of matrix emission. The Yb³⁺ impurities also increase intensity of the blue band by formation of additional Yb³⁺-induced channel of excitation of this band. The described effects of Yb³⁺ doping on properties of matrix emission are caused by the Yb³⁺ ions arranged in Pb positions.

Lattice location experiments performed on Yb- and Er-doped III-V semiconducting compounds using Rutherford backscattering and channeling have been reviewed. It has been shown that Yb atoms locate substitutionally in InP and InP-based ternary alloys, while in gallium compounds no substitutional fraction of Yb could be detected. An intense intra-4f-shell luminescence of Yb$\text{}^{3+}$ has been observed in In compounds. The photoluminescence spectra of Yb$\text{}^{3+}$ reflect local alloy disorder in InPAs and GaInP, suggesting that the Yb atoms are tetrahedrally coordinated. No Yb-related emission could be observed in gallium compounds, except a weak Yb$\text{}^{3+}$ photoluminescence in GaP. An evidence has been presented that Er atoms introduced into III-V compounds locate predominantly at interstitial positions. In GaAs they move into tetrahedral lattice sites as a result of thermal annealing at temperatures higher than 600°C. The location of Er atoms at substitutional positions is accompanied with the disappearance of the intra-4f-shell luminescence of Er$\text{}^{3+}$. The reasons of the observed correlation of luminescence properties and positions of Er and Yb atoms in zincblende lattices are discussed.

The electronic energy loss and the straggling of the energy loss of the degenerate electron gas for excited H*-, He*-, He**-, and Li*-like ions were calculated. The results were compared with the corresponding characteristics for ions kept in the ground state. The linear response theory was used. The ion was described by the Hartree-Fock-Slater formalism and the medium by the dielectric function. The stopping and straggling effective charges Z$\text{}_{ef}$ for the energy loss were analysed and they were found to differ from each other and to depend on the one-electron radius r$\text{}_{s}$, on the ion atomic number Z$\text{}_{i}$, and on the number of electrons N$\text{}_{i}$ carried by the ion.

The infinite dilution solvating energy of ions in a solvent is considered. The ions are treated as hard spheres with point charges and the solvent molecules are treated as dipolar and polarizable hard spheres. The diameter of ion can be different than the diameter of solvent molecule. It can be seen that contribution from permanent dipolar moment of the solvent is bigger (and so more important) than the contribution from polarizability of the solvent.
