Resonance ionization spectroscopy and its combination with mass spectrometry offer very high sensitivity and selectivity. The application of several variants of resonance ionization mass spectroscopy to the study of nuclear ground state properties and trace analysis of radioactive isotopes in the environment is discussed as well as the inverse process, i.e. the laser induced recombination, of bare heavy ions stored at relativistic energies in storage rings.

Nonrelativistic configuration interaction study for Al⁺, Al and Al¯ are presented, included calculations of ionization potential and electron affinity of the ²P° ground state of Al. CI calculations up to double, triple and quadrupole excitations for Al⁺, Al and Al¯, respectively, where neon fixed core is considered. Appropriate Slater type basis functions were developed suitable to recover both of core-valence and core-core correlation effect. The relativistic effect on both ionization potential and electron affinity are taken into account at the relativistic Hartree-Fock level. The calculated electron affinity is 432.811 meV which is in excellent agreement with experimental value of Sheer et al. 432.83(5) meV, whereas the calculated ionization potential is 5985.764 meV, the latter is in perfect agreement with experimental value of 5985.768 meV.

Opis:
The Monte Carlo method based model of the ionization in the hot cavity taking into account radioactive decay of nuclides is presented. The code upgraded compared to the previous version enables calculation of the ion source ionization efficiency not only for different geometries and temperatures of the ionizer, extraction voltages etc. but also gives opportunity of setting different values of the nuclide half-life and its sticking time, which may be considered as the main factor determining the time that a particle spends in the ion source. The results of calculations are presented together with the discussion of the radioactive decay on the ion source performance.

Opis:
A Monte Carlo method-based model of a hot cavity surface ion source with a spherically shaped ionizer is presented. A numerical code enables studies of ion source efficiency as a function of an extraction voltage, geometry of the ionizer and its temperature, the size of extraction aperture and many other factors. The calculation results for a variety of mentioned parameters are presented. A novel configuration of surface ion source is proposed and discussed - the efficiency of the source with an almost spherically shaped ionizer could be much higher than that of currently used constructions of ion sources.

Opis:
The numerical model of ionization of short-lived nuclides in spherical hot cavities is presented. Two different cavity configurations are considered: one of them (the hemispherical one) resembles that known from already existing ion sources while the other (closer to the full sphere) could be more efficient for short-lived isotopes. Changes of ionization efficiency with the half-life period as well as with the particle average sticking time are presented and discussed. Influence of the extraction opening radius on ionization efficiency is also under investigation.

After a brief review of the ionization of excited hydrogen atoms by a linearly polarized field, we discuss experimental results for the polarization dependence of this process. Experiments at ω/2π = 9.904 GHz used two different ranges of principal quantum number n$\text{}_{0}$ between 29 and 98. At low scaled frequencies, Ω ≲ 0.1, ionization data for certain narrow ranges of n$\text{}_{0}$ exhibit striking sensitivity to fields with elliptical polarization not too far from circular polarization. Classical calculations reproduce this behavior and show it to be the result of 2ω driving terms that appear when the Hamiltonian is transformed to a frame rotating at ω. It shows how higher-dimensional dynamics can influence the ionization and be used to control it when the polarization departs from linear or circular polarization. At higher scaled frequencies, 0.6 ≲ Ω$\text{}_{0}$ ≲ 1.4, near the onset of ionization circularly and elliptically polarized data show surprising similarities with linearly polarized data in a parameter regime where the ionization dynamics is dominated by the influence of the pendulumlike resonance zone centered at scaled frequency n$\text{}_{0}^{3}$ω ≡ Ω$\text{}_{0}$ = 1. The stabilizing influence of this zone can be understood classically, but nonclassical stability associated with quantal separatrix states at its edge is a semiclassical effect.

Luminescence spectra of n-type molecular beam epitaxial layer and semi-insulating liquid encapsulated Czochralski grown bulk GaAs were measured at liquid helium temperature for zero electric field and for fields which caused impact ionization of shallow donors. Application of the electric field caused a decrease in the luminescence intensity and a broadening of all observed structures. It was found that the electric field changed the luminescence spectrum of the n-type material in a different way than it did in the case of the semi-insulating one. For the n-type sample, an intensity of excitonic lines decreased much more than that of donor-acceptor lines when the electric field grew. A contrary was observed for the semi-insulating sample. An explanation of the result is proposed which takes into account an influence of ionised impurity scattering and localization in fluctuations of the electrostatic potential on the luminescence process.

Opis:
The single ionizing collision with an incident electron and atom/molecules ends up two kinds of outgoing electrons called scattering and ejected electrons. As a feature of electron impact ionization these two electrons are indistinguishable. Double differential cross-sections can be obtained by the measurements of energy and angular distributions of one of the two outgoing electrons by a detector. In this perspective, we used He target that is reasonable to expect to understand ionization mechanisms of atomic systems. We have measured double differential cross-sections for asymmetric geometry for different kinematical situations. The experiments are carried out on a newly developed electron spectrometer constructed in Afyonkarahisar, Turkey.

We have investigated single ionization of He by fast proton and antiproton using a QED approach. A field theoretical calculation gives the total cross-section of He in single ionization, from which it is seen that the projectile p$\text{}^{+}$ or p$\text{}^{-}$ gives almost the same values of cross-section. We have also compared our results with other theoretical and experimental results available in this context yet. Behaviour of the cross-section at a lower spectrum of projectile energy is discussed.

A Monte Carlo method based numerical model of hot cavity surface ion source that takes into account radioactive decay and the delay due to the sticking of particles to ionizer surface is considered. The influence of electron impact ionization by thermionic electrons accelerated by the extraction field is investigated. It is shown that the contribution from that process rises with decreasing half-life period and cannot be neglected, especially for substances of small surface ionization coefficient. The changes of relative yields from electron impact and surface processes with the length of the average sticking time are also studied.

In this study, we report the angular distribution of double differential cross sections of ejected electrons from Ar in intermediate energy region. Double differential cross-sections for electron impact ionization of argon have been measured at 348 eV. A hemispherical energy analyzer is used to analyze the ejected electrons with energies between 25 and 325 eV and angles between 25° and 130°.

We report a theoretical study of the collisional ionization processes which occur under 2s → 2p excitation of lithium vapor excited with a nanosecond pulsed laser. The time evolution of the electron energy distribution function and the atomic ion density $(Li^{+})$ as well as the molecular ion density $(Li_2^{+})$ at different lithium vapor densities was investigated. The results show a nonlinear behavior of the energy spectra of the electrons created during the interaction of the laser with the lithium vapor. The nonlinear behavior results from superelastic collisions between the free electrons produced by collisional ionization and photoionization with Li(2p). The results also show that a competition exists between the collisional ionization and photoionization processes in producing the atomic ion and the molecular ions.
