Opis:
We consider the coexistent id-density wave order, at the antiferromagnetic wave vector Q =(π,π), representing the pseudo-gap state, and d-wave superconductivity, driven by an assumed attractive interaction, within the BCS framework for the two-dimensional fermion system on a square lattice starting with a mean-field Hamiltonian involving the singlet id-density wave and the d-wave superconductivity pairings. The second-neighbor hopping, which is known to be important for cuprates and frustrates the kinetic energy of electrons, leads to the Fermi surface sheets being not connected by Q. The signature of the particle-hole asymmetry in the single-particle excitation spectrum of the pure id-density wave state is reflected in the coexisting id-density wave and d-wave superconductivity states, though the latter is characterized by the Bogoliubov quasi-particle bands - a characteristic feature of superconducting state. Quite significantly, we find that the coexistence is possible due to the non-nesting property.

We report spatially resolved photocurrent measurements showing transport of excitation on long distances in plane of a 6 nm GaN/$Al_{0.1}Ga_{0.9}N$ quantum well. The strong field present in nitrides (due to large spontaneous and piezoelectric polarizations) leads to lower recombination rates of electrons and holes, so in the case of electron-hole pairs excited by light, relatively long-lived electron-hole plasma could be generated. In the case of the investigated quantum well, lifetime of few μs was expected. The thermal measurements showed that barriers were low enough, so all excited carriers could reach the electrode (thermal activation energy of 0.11 eV was found). The diffusion length for unbiased structure was about 40 μm. It was observed that the charge transport could be clearly accelerated by bias. In the biased quantum well, the transport range was of the order of 100 μm under both positive and negative bias. The reported effect of long transport range is very important for electronic devices made on the GaN/AlGaN structures.

The theoretical investigation of the electron and hole spectra in a quantum dot with a linearly graded composition within the effective mass approximation is presented. The particular example is β-HgS surrounded by CdS. β-HgS core of radius $r_C$ is surrounded by concentric spherical layers each of $Hg_{1-x}Cd_{x}S$ composition (x is function of r) and finally, form radius $r_S$ by CdS. The existence of these intermediate layers, as model of graded composition, influences rapidly electron and hole spectra.

Coherent properties of the hole spin in an electric field are investigated. The tunneling between valence bands is used to control the transitions between the spin states. Extensive numerical studies using the time-dependent Schrödinger equation for valence band are presented to demonstrate the characteristic properties of the hole spin dynamics in dc, harmonic, as well as optimized electric fields for real valence bands of silicon. The paper also shows how one can connect the average hole spin with the initial hole wave function in the time-dependent Schrödinger equation.

Hole concentration and mobility were investigated by Hall measurements in nominally undoped p-type GaSb in the temperature range from 77 to 300 K. The dependence of the thermal ionization energy of native acceptors on the acceptor centre concentration and on the compensation degree was determined. The temperature dependence of the hole mobility was analyzed using a heuristic semi-empirical model as well as using a phenomenological two-hole band model. Space charge scattering and/or dipole scattering described with a mobility contribution with a~ T$\text{}^{-1}\text{}^{/}\text{}^{2}$ like temperature dependence dominated the hole mobility in the investigated temperature range.

A brief introduction in the equation of state of the Simha-Somcynsky hole theory is presented. This theory allows to calculate the volume fraction h of free volume holes from pressure-volume-temperature experiments. These holes are detected by ortho-positronium and from the value of h and the mean ortho-positronium hole size the hole density may be calculated. We discuss a simplified method to estimate h which makes use of the relation V* = 1.52 $V_W$ between the scaling volume V* of the Simha-Somcynsky hole theory equation of state and the van der Waals volume $V_W$. Moreover, we present a new simplified method for the estimation of h which starts with the Schottky (Arrhenius) equation for the concentration of thermal vacancies and makes use of a linear relation between the scaling temperature T* and the hole formation enthalpy $H_h$, $H_h$(kJ/mol)=6.54×$10^{-4}$T*(K).

The p-d hybridised single-hole states of the transition-metal-oxygen tetrahedron (TMO$\text{}_{4}$) are collectivised due to the direct p-p hopping between oxygens of different clusters. The lowest-lying energy band is always narrow and fully occupied. The first excited band gets occupied as an effect of valence-uncompensated doping, so it can be almost localised. The possible hole excitations to the two higher energy bands, which are wider, may imply the Mott-like hopping form of charge transport in these systems.

Opis:
The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of spin degrees of freedom on the flux quantization in a 2D Josephson junction. One of the most important properties of the Josephson structures is the total quantum flux which can be related to the phase difference across the junction. For example the sign of the phase difference controls the direction of the Josephson current while the magnitude of the phase difference affect the critical current itself. So far in literature to calculate the total quantum flux in the Josephson structures only the flux of the external magnetic field (and hence the external vector potential) has been considered but the intrinsic quantum flux of correlated electrons and holes have not been taken into account. We have recently calculated the intrinsic quantized magnetic flux of electrons and holes. We showed that depending on the spin orientations, the spin contribution to the quantized intrinsic flux of a correlated electron is equal to (Φ_{int}=±(g*Φ_{0})/2). Here g* is the effective Landé g-factor and Φ_{0} is the unit of flux (fluxoid). In the present study we calculate the above mentioned phase differences across the junction considering the intrinsic quantum flux of electrons and holes. For electrons the additional flux contribution will be: ΔΦ_{int}=±(g_{e}*Φ_{0})/2 and for holes, the related contribution will be: ΔΦ_{int}=±(g_{h}*Φ_{0})/2. We show that, for both charge carriers, the effective Landé g-factors (g_{e}*,g_{h}*), take only even integer values such as (0,2,4,...). The present calculations can be easily extended to the intrinsic Josephson junctions as well. We found that flux contribution to the total flux due to spin is very important and it is in fact ±Φ_{0}/2 depending on the spin up and down cases or the ground state.

We present the hole-related electrical activity of the InAs quantum dots embedded in the n-type GaAs. We performed our experiments with the use of the Laplace and conventional deep level transient spectroscopies combined with the above GaAs band-gap illumination. We observed that depending on temperature and electric field the hole emission process is an interplay between the pure thermal emission and tunnelling processes. The tunnelling was quantitatively described by a simple model of the potential barrier.

We show that at low carrier energies and densities the carriers in a two-dimensional Coulomb gas interact via classical unscreened carrier-carrier collisions. This allows us to calculate exactly the thermalization due to the two-dimensional carrier-carrier collisions in a nonthermal low-density (≈10$\text{}^{10}$ cm$\text{}^{-2}$) two-dimensional plasma excited near the band edge of an undoped GaAs quantum well. The thermalization is found to be 10-15 times slower than the 200 fs thermalization deduced from the previous spectral-hole burning measurements, which means that the spectral hole does not reflect the thermalization process. We also show that the Born approximation fails in describing such carrier-carrier collisions.

The Kotliar and Ruckenstein slave-boson representation of the Hubbard model allows to obtain an approximation of the charge dynamical response function resulting from the Gaussian fluctuations around the paramagnetic saddle-point in analytical form. Numerical evaluation in the thermodynamical limit yields charge excitation spectra consisting of a continuum, a gapless collective mode with anisotropic zero-sound velocity, and a correlation induced high-frequency mode at ω ≈ U. In this work we show that this analytical expression obeys the particle-hole symmetry of the model on any bipartite lattice with one atom in the unit cell. Other formal aspects of the approach are also addressed.
