Opis:
The investigations into ferromagnetic resonance and magnetic susceptibility of nanocrystalline TiB₂, TiC, and B₄C powders (Ti-B-C system) doped to AISI 316L austenitic steel with different amounts (3 vol.%, 5 vol.% and 7 vol.%) have been carried out. The ferromagnetic resonance spectra were recorded in the temperature range from helium up to room temperature. The three tested composite samples contain a number of magnetic phases in different proportions. They reveal a structure originating from several different complex magnetic centers. The composites revealed such magnetic phenomena as paramagnetism, (anti)ferromagnetism, and superparamagnetism. Magnetic susceptibility investigations supported the ferromagnetic resonance studies and their analysis. Magnetic properties of the TiB₂, TiC, B₄C powders doped to AISI steel may play important role in further possible applications of these composite systems.

Opis:
Cumulative isochronal annealing of stainless steel 1.4307 samples deformed by compression was investigated using the Doppler broadening of the annihilation line measurements. Higher level of plastic deformation is accompanied not only by higher concentration of defects but also by higher amount of α' martensite. The annealing studies revealed creation of defects in the temperature range between 450C and 650C pointing out the reverse transition of α' martensite to austenite. This is confirmed by magnetic susceptibility and microhardness measurements.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of investigations of carbon doped austenitic stainless steel coatings (carbon S-phase) obtained by the reactive magnetron sputtering in the reactive atmosphere composed of argon and methane as a carbon source. Stainless steel targets were sputtered under different conditions. During the experiments the argon to methane proportion varied within a range 11/2-7/6. The other parameters such as temperature, pressure, sputtering power, etc. were kept constant. The phase composition was determined using the X-ray diffraction. Electron probe microanalysis (energy dispersive spectroscopy and wavelength dispersive spectroscopy) and glow discharge optical emission spectrometry techniques were used to study element composition of the coatings. Microstructure was investigated by scanning electron microscopy. It was found that varying the methane volume in the reactive atmosphere, it is possible to control the lattice parameter of the carbon S-phase.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to reveal the influence of the heat treatment after welding of 17-7PH (X7CrNiAl17-7) steel on the microstructure evolution and the texture of the welds. Microstructure investigation carried out by light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy showed that the austenite and δ ferrite coexist in as-welded condition. Annealing at the temperature range between 400°C and 620°C after welding causes small changes in the microstructure and the hardness of the welds increases. Heat treatment at 760°C for 1 h resulted in the partial destabilization of the austenite. Aging after destabilization leads to tempering of the martensite: first the hardness increases and then decreases. The maximum hardness is observed when the ageing temperature reaches 510°C. XRD studies confirmed the presence of the two phases: δ ferrite and austenite. Annealing at 400°C/1 h and 550°C/1 h results in changes of the intensities for individual peaks derived from austenite and ferrite. The calculated ratios of peak intensity were compared with the intensities of the reference sample. The differences in intensities suggested strong texture of the material.

Opis:
The cavitation damage characteristics of austenitic stainless steel with different concentrations of Ti were investigated. The microstructure of the alloys was observed with optical microscope to identify its correlation with cavitation resistance. Hardness of the alloys was measured to examine its contribution to cavitation damage. It was found that the microstructure played a more significant role in cavitation damage behavior of austenitic stainless steel with Ti than the hardness. The findings in this study revealed that Ti addition in austenitic stainless steel may present either a beneficial or detrimental effect on cavitation damage behavior, depending on the microstructural characteristics. In particular, Ti content of 1.0% represented the most deteriorated cavitation characteristics due to the formation of relatively coarse precipitates. Therefore, control of Ti concentration is essential for marine application of austenitic stainless steel.

Opis:
Plastic deformation of austenitic FeMnC TWIP steels exhibits complex spatiotemporal patterns associated with the occurrence of deformation bands and the concomitant fluctuations of the deforming stress. Although the plastic instability is a generic property of these steels and is usually attributed to interaction of dislocations with solutes (the Portevin-Le Chatelier effect), both the kinematics of the deformation bands and the characteristic shape of stress serrations observed in the carbon-containing TWIP steel at room temperature manifest unusual features. The nature of these peculiarities and the mechanism of jerky flow in such steels are unclear. In the present work, an attempt is made to get an insight into the jerky flow in the Fe22Mn0.6C steel by studying the time series characterizing the evolution of plastic deformation at various scales: stress-time curves, local strain field, and acoustic emission accompanying the deformation processes. Stress and strain fluctuations related to two distinct scale ranges are detected and characterized.
