Opis:
The currently applicable PN-EN 1793-1 standard concerning anti-noise devices on roads recommends for acoustic barriers built along traffic routes to have panels characterized by good sound-absorbing properties. The sound-absorbing properties of these panels (wall elements) are to be specified by giving the values of the single-number sound absorption evaluation index $DL_α$ and the absorption property class determined in accordance with the PN-EN 1793-3:2001 standard. Continuous regular acoustic studies of new materials heretofore not used in anti-noise protections are conducted in the Department of Mechanics and Vibroacoustics at AGH. This paper presents the findings of research that started with different porous materials physical absorption coefficient tests. The purpose of these preliminary tests was to pick out materials with best sound-absorbing properties from the group of acoustically tested materials. The chosen materials could be used as a sound-absorbing lining on panels (wall elements) used in the design of acoustic barriers. On the basis of the obtained results, two materials with values of the average physical sound absorption coefficient higher than 0.5 ($α_{favg}$>0.5) were picked out for further acoustic tests. This paper presents results of studies that had the final effect consisting in determining the values of the single-number sound absorption evaluation index $DL_α$ and the absorption property class for two prototype panels of an acoustic barrier the sound-absorbing lining of which was made up of materials chosen after preliminary acoustic studies. The determination of sound-absorbing property classes was carried out both theoretically and experimentally. In order to be possible to reduce the costs of acoustic tests in the future, particularly of new materials in regard to which there is a margin of uncertainty of whether their sound-absorbing properties meet expectations, the authors determined sound-absorbing property classes of acoustic barriers theoretically and then compared theoretical results with the results of experimental tests.

Opis:
A special method for measuring the optical parameters of thin absorbing films is presented. Within the method the radiation transmitted through the layer is measured. The transmitted radiation is detected by the space charge region which is located in the substrate at the interface with the layer. The space charge region acts as a photodetector placed just behind the layer. In this paper the method is applied to characterize a system of an absorbing ZnSe film on a GaAs substrate. The values of the optical parameters of the film are evaluated. This means that the value of the thickness and the spectral dependences of both the refractive index and extinction coefficient are determined. The spectral dependences of both optical constants are determined in the visible range. Finally, the comparison of our results obtained by this method with the results obtained from ellipsometric and reflectance measurements is presented.

Opis:
The main objective of the paper is to overview of the actual and potential capabilities of some complex multilayers to enhance, and control the microwave absorption. Going through available literature data we emphasize the role of interphase coupling, and material resonances in enhancing phenomena of importance for internal scattering, diffusions, and intrinsic material absorption of propagating EM wave, especially in microwave and mm wave ranges. The theoretical background is consequently formulated in terms of transmissions line approach.

Wave scattering in chaotic systems with a uniform energy loss (absorption) is considered. Within the random matrix approach we calculate exactly the energy correlation functions of different matrix elements of impedance or scattering matrices for systems with preserved or broken time-reversal symmetry. The obtained results are valid at any number of arbitrary open scattering channels and arbitrary absorption. Elastic enhancement factors (defined through the ratio of the corresponding variance in reflection to that in transmission) are also discussed.

Opis:
We have prepared composite materials with a mixture of carbonyl iron (CI) and manganese-zinc ferrite (MnZn) as filler and polyvinylchloride (PVC) as polymer matrix, and then electromagnetic wave absorption properties of CI/MnZn/PVC composites have been studied in the frequency range from 10 MHz to 6.5 GHz. Increasing carbonyl iron loading (to the detriment of MnZn ferrite) results in the rise of permeability and magnetic resonance loss (especially in GHz frequency range) which leads to the shift of absorption peak towards lower frequency and to the decrease of matching thickness. On the contrary, increasing MnZn ferrite loading (to the detriment of carbonyl iron) results in higher absorption bandwidth. The obtained results indicate that the prepared flexible composites may be useful as thin and/or wideband microwave absorbers.

Opis:
The properties and the efficiency of a semiconductor thin film depend on the state of stress and defects in the film structure. When the film is growing layer by layer, the elastic energy due to deformation stress between the substrate and the film is released partly due to the formation of dislocations in the critical thickness deformation. In this paper, we present a finite element analysis of the stress state in a thin film of $Cu_3BiS_3$ as a function of thickness and elastic energy release by nucleation of dislocations. Initially, we analyze the stress contours associated with the epitaxial growth and dislocation nucleation and then combine these two in order to study the effective potential energy state of the system. Finally, the tool wxAMPS is today an important application for simulation of solar cells with high reliability and an improved design over its analysis of microelectronic and photonic structures predecessor, incorporating physical principles concerning photovoltaic phenomena and uses a new method for solving algorithms, combining Newton and Gummel approaches, which provides greater stability and speed of computation.
