Opis:
In a series of the recent papers of the author, it was shown that the solutions and Lagrange multipliers of state-constrained optimal control problems are locally Lipschitz continuous and directionally differentiable functions of the parameter, under usual constraint qualifications and weakened second order conditions. In this paper, it is shown that those conditions are not only sufficient, but also necessary. Thus, they consitute a characterization of Lipschitz stability and sensitivity properties for state-constrained optimal control problems.

Opis:
This paper describes a computationally efficient (sub-optimal) nonlinear predictive control algorithm. The algorithm uses a modified dual-mode approach which guarantees closed-loop stability. In order to reduce the computational burden, instead of online nonlinear optimisation used in the classical dual-mode control scheme, a nonlinear model of the plant is linearised on-line and a quadratic programming problem is solved. Calculation of the terminal set and implementation steps of the algorithm are detailed, especially for input-output models, which are widely used in practice.

Opis:
The use of neural networks in control systems can be seen as a natural step in the evolution of control methodology to meet new challenges. Many attempts have been made to apply the neural networks to deal with non-linearities and uncertainties of the control systems. Research in neural network applications to control can be classified according to the major methods depending on structures of the control system, such as NN-based NON-linear System Identification, NN-based Supervised Control, NN-based Direct Control, NN-based Indirect Control, NN-based Adaptive Control, NN-based Self-learning Control, NN-based Fuzzy Control, and NN Variable Structure Control. All these control methods cannot, however, effectively guarantee system stability, i.e. none of these neural network controls, except for NN-based Variable Structure Control, is based on system stability. This also limits the application and development of the neural networks in control theory. The paper shows the effort to solve this difficulty and give a way for the design method of the stability based neural networks controller using Lyapunov second stability theorem. This kind of controller can not only guarantee system stability, but also fully compensate for the influence of system uncertainties and non-linearities.Simulation results also show the effectiveness of the controller.

A family {(O[sub h])} of parametric optimal control problems for nonlinear ODEs is considered. The problems are subject to pointwise inequality type state constraints. Opis:
In this paper sliding mode control systems are considered and a new technique to attenuate chattering is proposed. The technique employs simple, first-order dynamical devices, i.e. an integrator or a low-pass filter, to compensate in part for unknown and changing disturbance. As a result of this compensation, the magnitude of the discontinuous control term is essentially reduced. The term does not depend on the admissible disturbance or its change rate, but only on the uncertainty of the disturbance at the initial time t = t[sub o]. The technique proposed in this paper attenuates the undesirable chattering without any deterioration of the system performance.

Opis:
The problem of cooperation of Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithms with steady-state economic optimisation is investigated in this paper. It is particularly important when the dynamics of disturbances is comparable with the dynamics of the process, since in such a case the classical hierarchical multilayer structure is likely to be not efficient and give the economic yield smaller than expected. This is because the economic nonlinear optimisation problem cannot be then solved on-line to update the optimal operating point as frequently as needed. On the other hand, simple target set-point optimisation based on linear models can be also insufficiently accurate. This paper introduces approximate formulations of the target set-point optimisation problem which tightly cooperates with the MPC and is solved as frequently as the MPC controller executes. Linear, linear-quadratic and piecewise-linear formulations are discussed, tuning guidelines are also given.

We consider an opitmal control problem for systems defined by nonlinear hyperbolic partial differential equations with state constraints. Since no convexity assumptions are made on the data, we also consider the control problem in relaxed form. We discretize both the classical and the relaxed problenms by using a finite element method in space and a finite difference scheme in time, the controls being approximated by piecevise constant ones. We develop the existence theory and the necessary conditions for optimality, for the continous and the discrete problems. Finally, we study the behaviour in the limit of discrete optimality, admissibility and extremality properties.

This paper presents a fuzzy adaptive control of a class of MISO nonlinear systems. The dynamic behaviour of each MISO systems is composed of a nonlinear term, interactions effect between the inputs, and disturbances. In these circumstances, adaptive control becomes very difficult to implement and not always an evident task. Thus, the MISO system is approximated by the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model. The advantage of this approximation is beneficial in the sense that it allows for converting the nonlinear problem into a linear one. In this respect, the coupling, nonlinearity and unmodeled dynamics are easily compensated. The identification and the control are conducted at the level of each local linear model based on fuzzy approach. The computational load and the complexity of nonlinear approach are reduced and permit wide applicability. The validity and the performance are tested numerically.

This paper is concerned with adaptive stabilization of two coupled viscous Burgers' equations by nonlinear boundary controllers. Under the existence of bounded deterministic disturbances, the adaptive controllers are constructed by the concept of high-gain nonlinear output feedback and the estimation mechanism of the unknown parameters. In the controlled system the global stability and the convergence of the system states to zero will be guaranteed. It is shown that the theory can be generalized to the systems with higher-order nonlinearity.

This paper presents extensions of some results, obtained for the analysis of classical nonlinear control systems, to the nonlinear fractional order systems. It is shown that the results related to limit cycle prediction using describing function method can be applied to the fractional order plants. The frequency and the amplitude of the limit cycle are used for auto-tuning of the PID controller for nonlinear control systems with fractional order transfer functions. Fractional order control system with parametric uncertainty is also considered for the nonlinear case. On the other hand, a New method is provided for stability margin computation for fractional order nonlinear control system with parametric uncertainty structure using the Nyquist envelopes of the fractional order uncertain plant and the describing function that represents the nonlinearity of the system. Maximum perturbation bounds of the parameters of the fractional order plant are computed. Numerical examples are included to illustrate the methods presented.

In this paper we deal with an optimal control problem in coefficients for the system of two coupled elliptic equations, also known as the thermistor problem, which provides a simultaneous description of the electric field u = u(x) and temperature θ(x). The coefficients of the operator div (B(x)∇θ(x)) are used as the controls in L∞(Ω). The optimal control problem is to minimize the discrepancy between a given distribution θd ∈ Lr(Ω) and the temperature of thermistor θ ∈ W1,γ 0 (Ω) by choosing an appropriate anisotropic heat conductivity matrix B. Basing on the perturbation theory of extremal problems and the concept of fictitious controls, we propose an “approximation approach” and discuss the existence of the so-called quasi-optimal and optimal solutions to the given problem.

This work aims to improve and simplify the procedure used in the Control Adjoining Cell Mapping with Reinforcement Learning (CACM-RL) technique, for the tuning process of an optimal contro ller during the pre-learning stage (controller design), making easier the transition from a simulation environment to the real world. Common problems, encountered when working with CACM-RL, are the adjustment of the cell size and the long-term evolution error. In this sense, the main goal of the new approach, developed for CACM-RL that is proposed in this work (CACMRL*), is to give a response to both problems for helping engineers in defining of the control solution with accuracy and stability criteria instead of cell sizes. The new approach improves the mathematical analysis techniques and reduces the engineering effort during the design phase. In order to demonstrate the behaviour of CACM-RL*, three examples are described to show its application to real problems. In All the examples, CACM-RL* improves with respect to the considered alternatives. In some cases, CACM- RL* improves the average controllability by up to 100%.

Opis:
In this paper, a passivity-based optimal controlmethod for a broad class of nonlinear discrete-time systems is proposed. The resulting control law is a static output feedback law which is practically preferred with respect to the state feedback law and is simple to implement. The control law has a general structure with adjustable parameters which are tuned, using an optimization method (genetic algorithm), to minimize an arbitrary cost function. By choosing this cost function it is possible to shape the transient response of the closed-loop system, as it is desirable. An illustrative ex ample shows the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
