Opis:
In this paper the problem of existence of solution of polynomial equations over the field of real numbers is considered. In particular, the explicit necessary and sufficient conditions are established for the equation A(z)X + B(z)Y = C(z) in polynomial matrices to have a solution for X and Y over the field of real numbers, with X being non-singular, for every polynomial matrix C(z) from a given class.

Opis:
In this paper, symbolic computation techniques are used to obtain a canonical form for polynomial matrices arising from linear delay-differential systems of the neutral type. The canonical form can be regarded as an extension of the companion form, often encountered in the theory of linear systems, described by ordinary differential equations. Using the Smith normal form, the exact connection between the original polynomial matrix and the reduced canonical form is set out. An example is given to illustrate the computational aspects involved.

Opis:
In this paper we have described a new design algorithm for the whole set of latent-structure assignments via the approaches of block structure of λ-matrices placement. The procedure that has been developed is based on decoupling of the interactions between control loops in a multivariable plant. The procedure is performed using matrix polynomial solvent reconstruction for the decoupling purposes. However, for the design of the trajectory tracking controller, each input-output pair is treated respectively by designing SISO controllers. A second procedure is the MIMO PID compensator design via the model-matching method. This latter algorithm has been developed in order to avoid the internal or the hidden instability, which may occur in the first method, due to the block zeros - block poles cancellation.

Opis:
It is well known that local stability analysis of a Walrasian multiple markets model is performed by approximating, according to Taylor's expansion, a system of first-order differential equations. So, one has to study the stability of a linear system (with constant coefficients). Since the earlier studies of Walrasian economic equilibrium, economists have suggested numerous conditions ensuring local stability of the same. The aim of this note is to give a survey of various conditions, used in economic analysis, ensuring that a (real) square matrix is stable. We show, in a unified manner, their inter-relations and make some new remarks on quasi-dominant matrices and on D-stable matrices.

Opis:
This article concerns the optimal stopping problem for a discrete-time Markov chain with observable states, but with unknown transition probabilities. A stopping policy is graded via the expected total-cost criterion resulting from the non-negative running and terminal costs. The Dynamic Programming method, combined with the Bayesian approach, is developed. A series of explicitly solved meaningful examples illustrates all the theoretical issues.

Results of numerical simulations of a portfolio selection model with information cost are presented. Simulations are based on the real data from the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The results show that buying the information according to the presented model may lead to an essential reduction of investment risk depending on the required level of return. If the return level is not too high, reduction of risk really takes place.

Opis:
In this paper necessary and sufficient conditions (and criteria) for null-controllability, reachability and controllability of time-variant discrete-time positive linear systems are established. These properties appear to be entirely structural properties, that is, they do depend on the zero-nonzero pattern of the pair (A(k), B[k)) > 0 and do not depend on the values of its entries. An interesting phenomenon has been revealed namely the time needed to reach the origin for a null-controllable system as well as the time to reach a (non-negative) state from the origin for a reachable system can be less, equal or greater than the dimension of the system. This phenomenon has no equivalent in the case of time-invariant discrete-time positive linear systems where this time is always less or equal to the system dimension. Examples are provided.
