Opis:
The main purpose of this paper is to show that David Gale's result (1960, Lemma 9.3 on sensitivity in linear programming) is not generally valid. In this lemma, additional assumptions, that are instead required, are not made. We give some correct versions of the above mentioned lemma, and with these an elementary proof of the Gale-Samuelson nonsubstitution theorem.

Opis:
Evaluation of efficiency of the DMUs (Decision Making Units) in a company is a very important problem. Thus, the studies of evaluation of efficiency are being actively carried out on the basis of the production functions, for example Cobb-Douglas production function and fuzzy loglinear production function (fuzzy Cobb-Douglas model). Recently, DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) was applied to evaluation of efficiency, in the sense of benchmarking evaluation. After having evaluated DMUs by DEA, we obtain the improvement plan for every input in the inefficient DMUs. Though we many not be able to decrease inputs at one time according to the DEA plan, it is natural to construct some phased improvement plans for decreasing the inputs. First, we propose to support the construction of some phased improvement plans by the sensitivity analysis for the evaluated efficiency by applicatiion of definite limits to the decrease of inputs. Second, we evaluate this method by applying it to the case of bank data.

The cash flows of an investment project are influenced by several factors. All the factors influencing fuzzy net present value of a project should be taken into account, together with their variability, in order to analyze the whole project, and to make the best decisions during the project’s life. In this paper a fuzzy global sensitivity analysis method is proposed for fuzzy net present value to determine the influences of the factors on the worth of an investment project. The results of the proposed method for an application are also interpreted.

Opis:
In this paper, we consider the problem of locating coated inclusions in a 2D dimensional conductor material in order to obtain a suitable thermal environment. The mathematical model is described by elliptic partial differential equation with linear boundary condition, including heat transfer coefficient. A shape optimization problem is formulated by introducing a cost functional to solve the problem under consideration. The shape sensitivity analysis is rigorously performed for the problem by means of a Lagrangian formulation. The optimization problem is solved by means of gradient-based strategy and numerical experiments are carried out to demonstrate the feasibility of the approach.

Opis:
We consider the so-called generic combinatorial optimization problem, where the set of feasible solutions is some family of subsets of a finite ground set with specified positive initial weights of elements, and the objective function represents the total weight of elements of a feasible solution. We assume that the weights of all elements may be perturbed simultaneously and independently up to a given percentage of their initial values. A feasible solution which minimizes the worst-case relative regret, is called a robust solution. The maximum percentage level of perturbations, for which an initially optimal solution remains robust, is called the robustness radius of this solution. In this paper we study the robustness aspect of initially optimal solutions and provide lower bounds for their robustness radii.

We consider a multicriteria problem of integer linear programming and study the set of all individual criterion minimizers (extreme solutions) playing an important role in determining the range of Pareto optimal set. In this work, the lower and upper attainable bounds on the stability radius of the set of extreme solutions are obtained in the situation where solution and criterion spaces are endowed with various H¨older’s norms. In addition, the case of the Boolean problem is analyzed. Some computational challenges are also discussed.

The paper can be considered as a complement to previous papers of the authors. An insight into applied asymptotic analysis of boundary value problems in singularly perturbed domains is presented. As a result, the asymptotic expansions of eigenvalues are obtained and discussed in terms of integral attributes of the geometrical perturbations including the virtual mass tensor, polarization tensor etc. The results are presented in such a way that can be easily employed in numerical methods for shape optimization and inverse problems.

Opis:
Second order sufficient optimality conditions (SSC) are derived for optimal multiprocess control problems. For that purpose the multiprocess control problem is transformed into a single stage control problem with augmented state variables which comprise the state variables of all individual stages as well as the switching times as choice variables. This toansformation allows to apply the known SSC for single stage control problems. A numerical test of SSC involves the solution of an associated Riccati equation together with boundary conditions adapted to the multiprocess. Sensitivity analysis of parametric multiprocess problems can be based on SSC. A numerical example of the optimal two-stage control of a robot illustrates both SSC and sensitivity analysis.

In a series of the recent papers of the author, it was shown that the solutions and Lagrange multipliers of state-constrained optimal control problems are locally Lipschitz continuous and directionally differentiable functions of the parameter, under usual constraint qualifications and weakened second order conditions. In this paper, it is shown that those conditions are not only sufficient, but also necessary. Thus, they consitute a characterization of Lipschitz stability and sensitivity properties for state-constrained optimal control problems.
