Opis:
The results of studies investigating the effects of storage time and temperature on variations in Poisson ratio of the skin of two greenhouse tomato varieties – Admiro and Encore were presented. In the initial period of the study, Poisson ratio of the skin of tomato fruit cv. Admiro, stored at 13°C, varied between 0.7 and 0.8. After the successive 10 days of the experiment, it decreased to approximately 0.6 and was stabilized until the end of study. By contrast, the skin of tomatoes cv. Encore was characterized by lower values and lower variability of Poisson ratio in the range of 0.4 to 0.5 during storage. The examinations involving tomato fruit cv. Admiro stored at 21°C were completed after 12 days due to fruit softening and progressive difficulty with preparing analytical specimens. The value of Poisson ratio for both varieties stored at roomtemperature fluctuated throughout the experiment to approximate 0.5.

Opis:
The leaves of scorzonera are vulnerable to mechanical damage due to heavy rainfall or wind. The aim of the study was to determine the impact of pre-sowing exposure of scorzonera seeds to laser light on the mechanical strength of the leaves and the content of photosynthetic pigments. The research material consisted of scorzonera leaves obtained from seeds treated with He-Ne laser light at the wavelength of 632.8 nm, surface power density of 5 mW cm–2, and exposure time of 1, 5, 10, and 30 minutes. Young’s modulus measurements showed that the leaves of the plants grown from seeds subjected to laser light stimulation were characterized by better mechanical strength compared to the leaves of the control. The highest values of the Young’s modulus were recorded for scorzonera plants grown from seeds subjected to laser light exposure for 10 minutes. Exposure to light for a period of 1, 5 and 30 minutes significantly affected the content of chlorophylls and carotenoids in the leaves relative to the control. The largest increase in the content of photosynthetic pigments was recorded for 1 minute. The improvement in the mechanical strength of scorzonera leaves may reduce their vulnerability to mechanical damage during vegetation.

Opis:
The results of investigations on the physicochemical and grinding characteristics of Moldavian dragonhead seeds are presented. The data obtained showed that the physical properties (average size, sphericity, surface area, 1 000 seed mass, dynamic angle of repose, coefficient of static friction, and bulk and true densities) of the white and blue form of dragonhead seeds were not significantly different. Both forms of dragonhead showed similar levels of protein (average of 21%), whereas the blue form of dragonhead had a lower fat content (average of 23.1%) and higher mucilage content (13.35%) in comparison to the blue form of seed (24.6 and 9.95%, respectively). Antioxidant capacity of dragonhead seeds was comparable for both forms and averaged about 40%, which corresponded to EC50 values of 0.12 and 0.13 mgml-1 for the white and blue forms, respectively. The grinding material showed similar particle size distribution of ground material for both forms of dragonhead seeds. The lowest values of specific grinding energy were obtained for the white form of dragonhead seeds, those for the blue form were significantly higher. Grinding of dragonhead seeds using a screen 2.0 mm mesh size caused screen hole clogging. This problem did not occur when dragonhead seeds were mixed with wheat grain.
