Opis:
The effect of rotational and travelling speeds and down force on the torque in Friction Stir Processing (FSP) process is presented. The relationship between rotational speed and torque was modelled by an exponential function. The dependence of the travelling speed and down force affecting the torque was successfully approximated by linear functions. To find a dependence combining the spindle torque acting on the tool with the rotational speed, travelling speed and down force the artificial neural networks was applied. Studies have shown that the increase of rotational speed causes the decrease of torque while the increase in the travelling speed and down force causes the increase of the torque at the same time. Tests were conducted on casting aluminium alloy AlSi9Mg. Application of FSP process resulted in a decrease of the porosity in the modified material and refined microstructure.
Metodą sieci neuronowych ustalono zależność wartości parametrów technologicznych i momentu obrotowego narzędzia. Analiza wyników badań wykazała, że zwiększenie prędkości obrotowej powoduje zmniejszenie momentu, natomiast wzrost prędkości przesuwu i siły docisku wzrost momentu obrotowego. W badaniach stosowano odlewniczy stop aluminium AlSi9Mg. Stosowany proces FSP spowodował zmniejszenie porowatości w modyfikowanej warstwie wierzchniej stopu oraz rozdrobnienie jego ziaren.

This research presents a method for the simulation of the magneto-mechanical system dynamics taking motion and eddy currents into account. The major contribution of this work leans on the coupling the field-motion problem considering windings as the current forced massive conductors, modelling of the rotor motion composed of two conductive materials and the torque calculation employing the special optimal predictor combined with the modified Maxwell stress tensor method. The 3D model of the device is analysed by the time stepping finite element method. Mechanical motion of the rotor is determined by solving the second order motion equation. Both magnetic and mechanical equations are coupled in the iterative solving process. Presented method is verified by solving the TEAM Workshop Problem 30.

Accurate force and torque calculations are fundamental to being able to predict the operation of an electromechanical device or system. The Maxwell stress tensor and the virtual work principle are the two major theories for force and torque calculation. However, if local distributions of torque are needed to couple to structural and vibration analyses, the conventional Maxwell stress approach cannot provide this easily. A recently developed approach based on sensitivity analysis has the capability to deliver local stress and torque as well as accurate global results. In addition, this approach divides the total torque into different components which are essential to the design of electrical devices. This paper includes several numerical examples of torque calculations of different electrical machines. The results are verified by a commercial software package using the Maxwell stress based force calculation.

Opis:
In the electromagnetic field simulation of modern servo drives, the computation of higher time and space harmonics is essential to predict torque pulsations, radial forces, ripple torques and cogging torque. Field computation by conformal map ping (CM) techniques is a time-effective method to compute the radial and tangential field components. In the standard CM approach, computational results of cogging torque simulations as well as overload operations observe deviations to nonlinear finite element (FE) simulations due to the neglection of slot leakage and saturation effects. This paper presents an extension of the classical CM. Additional CM parameters are computed from single finite element computations so as to consider both effects listed above in the model over a wide operation range of the electrical drive. The proposed approach is applied to a surface permanent magnet synchronous machine (SM-PMSM), and compared to numerical results obtained by finite element analysis (FEA). An accuracy similar to that of FE simulations is obtained with however the low computation time that is characteristic for analytical models.

Opis:
Results of friction stir processing (FSP) of aluminium alloy 6082 are presented in this paper. The FSP is an emerging metal working technology that can provide localized modification and control of microstructures in near surface layers of processed metallic components. This technology represents an adaptation of the principle of friction stir welding (FSW), a solid state joining process originally developed at the Welding Institute in the United Kingdom. Investigations were conducted on the welding machine, built on the base of the conventional, vertical milling machine equipped with LOWSTIR device - weld monitoring system plus software to display real time numerical values of forces and torque. The goal of the research was to determine the relationship between processing parameters and quality of the processed surface, forces and spindle torque acting on the tool. Results indicate that the quality of FSP zone is good in the limited range of processing parameters. The increase of the rotation speed of a tool causes the decrease in the spindle torque and increase in the heat generation.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań procesu tarciowej modyfikacji warstw wierzchnich z mieszaniem materiału (ang. friction stir processing - FSP) stopu aluminium 6082.

This paper proposes an analysis of the effect of vertical position of the pivot point of the inverted pendulum during humanoid walking. We introduce a new feature of the inverted pendulum by taking a pivot point under the ground level allowing a natural trajectory for the center of pressure (CoP), like in human walking. The influence of the vertical position of the pivot point on energy consumption is analyzed here. The evaluation of a 3D Walking gait is based on the energy consumption. A sthenic criterion is used to depict this evaluation. A consequent reduction of joint torques is shown with a pivot point under the ground.
W pracy przedstawiono propozycję analizy efektów zmiany pozycji pionowej punktu obrotu wahadła odwróconego użytego do modelowania chodu robota człekopodobnego.

Opis:
An attempt is made in the current research to obtain the fundamental buckling torque and the associated buckled shape of an annular plate. The plate is subjected to a torque on its outer edge. An isotropic homogeneous plate is considered. The governing equations of the plate in polar coordinates are established with the aid of the Mindlin plate theory. Deformations and stresses of the plate prior to buckling are determined using the axisymmetric flatness conditions. Small perturbations are then applied to construct the linearised stability equations which govern the onset of buckling. To solve the highly coupled equations in terms of displacements and rotations, periodic auxiliary functions and the generalised differential quadrature method are applied. The coupled linear algebraic equations are a set of homogeneous equations dealing with the buckling state of the plate subjected to a unique torque. Benchmark results are given in tabular presentations for combinations of free, simply-supported, and clamped types of boundary conditions. It is shown that the critical buckling torque and its associated shape highly depend upon the combination of boundary conditions, radius ratio, and the thickness ratio.

Opis:
This paper presents mathematical methods to develop a high-efficiency and real-time driving energy management for a front-and-rear-motor-drive electric vehicle (FRMDEV), which is equipped with an induction motor (IM) and a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). First of all, in order to develop motor-loss models for energy optimization, database of with three factors, which are speed, torque and temperature, was created to characterize motor operation based on HALTON sequence method. The response surface model of motor loss, as the function of the motor-operation database, was developed with the use of Gauss radial basis function (RBF). The accuracy of the motor-loss model was verified according to statistical analysis. Then, in order to create a two-factor energy management strategy, the modification models of the torque required by driver (Td) and the torque distribution coefficient (β) were constructed based on the state of charge (SOC) of battery and the motor temperature, respectively. According to the motor-loss models, the fitness function for optimization was designed, where the influence of the non-work on system consumption was analyzed and calculated. The optimal β was confirmed with the use of the off-line particle swarm optimization (PSO). Moreover, to achieve both high accuracy and real-time performance under random vehicle operation, the predictive model of the optimal β was developed based on the hybrid RBF. The modeling and predictive accuracies of the predictive model were analyzed and verified. Finally, a hardware-in-loop (HIL) test platform was developed and the predictive model was tested. Test results show that, the developed predictive model of β based on hybrid RBF can achieve both real-time and economic performances, which is applicable to engineering application. More importantly, in comparison with the original torque distribution based on rule algorithm, the torque distribution based on hybrid RBF is able to reduce driving energy consumption by 9.51% under urban cycle.

Opis:
The continuing efforts for reduction of the torque and flux ripples using Finite Set Model Predictive Direct Torque Control methods (FS-MPDTC) have been currently drowning a great attention from the academic communities and industrial applications in the field of electrical drives. The major problem of high torque and flux ripples refers to the consideration of just one active voltage vector at the whole control period. Implementation of two or more voltage vectors at each sampling time has recently been adopted as one of the practical techniques to reduce both the torque and flux ripples. Apart from the calculating challenge of the effort control, the parameter dependency and complexity of the duty ratio relationships lead to reduction of the system robustness. those are two outstanding drawbacks of these methods. In this paper, a finite set of the voltage vectors with a finite set of duty cycles are employed to implement the FS-MPDTC of induction motor. Based on so-called Discrete Duty Cycle- based FS-MPDTC (DDC-FS-MPDTC), a base duty ratio is firstly determined based on the equivalent reference voltage. This duty ratio is certainly calculated using the command values of the control system, while the motor parameters are not used in this algorithm. Then, two sets of duty ratios with limit members are constructed for two adjacent active voltage vectors supposed to apply at each control period. Finally, the prediction and the cost function evaluation are performed for all of the preselected voltage vectors and duty ratios. However, the prediction and the optimization operations are performed for only 12 states of inverter. Meanwhile, time consuming calculations related to SVM has been eliminated. So, the robustness and complexity of the control system have been respectively decreased and increased, and both the flux and torque ripples are reduced in all speed ranges. The simulation results have verified the damping performance of the proposed method to reduce the ripples of both the torque and flux, and accordingly the experimental results have strongly validated the aforementioned statement.

Opis:
In recent years, electric and hybrid vehicles have taken more and more attention due to their apparent advantages in saving fuel resources and reducing harmful emissions into the environment. Even though electric vehicles can solve the ecological problem, their operation is faced with a number of inconveniences associated with a limited driving distance from a single charge due to limited storage of energy from an independent power source and a lack of the required service and repair infrastructure. In hybrid and electric vehicles one of the main parameters is the curb weight, which affects energy consumption, vehicle speed, stability, controllability and maneuverability. In this regard, leading car manufacturers use parts with a low specific weight (non-metallic, aluminum alloys, etc.) in the design and also exclude some units from the design. Due to these technical solutions, the vehicle's operating is improved. One of the groups of parameters to be defined when designing a new electric vehicle is the parameters relating to the electric motor. The purpose of the article is determination of the mechanical characteristics of a two-rotor electric motor during magnetic flux control and assessment of the possibility of organizing the drive of the drive wheels of the vehicle. The electric motor has two mechanically independent outputs. For the study, an electrical equivalent diagram has been developed for the given two-rotor electric motor. A simulation model of the equivalent diagram has been built. Simulating the interaction processes of the rotors with the stator made it possible to obtain data for building the mechanical characteristics for each output of the electric motor. Analysis and processing of the mechanical characteristics data of the electric motors showed the conformity and the range of changes in the torque on each of the rotors when changing their slip and revolution, which are required when building algorithms for the operation of electric motor control systems as part of drives for various purposes. Analysis of the simulation results made it possible to assess the possibility of using the considered two-rotor electric motor for the drive of drive wheels in an electric and hybrid wheeled vehicle.

In this paper, a new type of interior composite-rotor bearingless permanent magnet synchronous motors (BPMSMs) with two layer permanent magnets (PMs) is proposed. In order to reduce the torque ripple of this kind of motors, the sizes of PMs are optimized. Moreover, the magnetic field analysis of the interior composite-rotor BPMSM with two layer PMs is carried out by the finite element method (FEM). The corresponding static electronic magnetic characteristics at no load, including magnetic field, PM flux linkage and inductance, are studied in detail. In addition, electromagnetic torque characteristics and suspension force characteristics are also investigated thoroughly. The results of the analysis and simulation lay a significant foundation for further research on the interior composite-rotor BPMSMs with two layer PMs.

Opis:
Design of a delta/polygon-connected autotransformer based 36-pulse ac-dc converter is presented in this paper. The 36-pulse topology is obtained via two paralleled eighteen-pulse ac-dc converters each of them consisting of a nine-phase (nine-leg) diode bridge rectifier. For independent operation of paralleled diode-bridge rectifiers, two interphase transformers (IPT) is designed and implemented. A transformer is designed to supply the rectifier. The design procedure of magnetics is in a way such that makes it suitable for retrofit applications where a six-pulse diode bridge rectifier is being utilized. The proposed structure has been implemented and simulated using Matlab/Simulink software under different load conditions. Simulation results confirmed the significant improvement of the power quality indices (consistent with the IEEE-519 standard requirements) at the point of common coupling. Furthermore, near unity power factor is obtained for a wide range of DTCIMD operation. A comparison is made between 6-pulse and proposed converters from view point of power quality indices. Results show that input current total harmonic distortion (THD) is less than 4% for the proposed topology at variable loads.
