Opis:
The paper presents the research on the effect of elevated temperature on the dynamic performance of a rotor supported by foil bearings. The tests were carried out on the test rig equipped with a module for increasing temperature around the bearings. A 3 kW motor with two ceramic ball bearings was connected to the shaft by means of a flexible coupling. The shaft was supported by gas foil bearings. The maximum rotational speed of the rotor was 24000 rpm. The tests were performed with the operating rotor, covering multiple start and stop cycles at room and elevated temperatures. During the first stage of experimental investigation vibration, displacement and temperature values for the two bearings were recorded. Then, the temperature was raised to approx. 200 ◦C within one of the bearing supports. The parameters mentioned above were registered and compared with the results obtained during room temperature operation. After each test bearings were disassembled, regenerated as necessary and reassembled. After analysis of the results achieved, it could be noted that the system was sensitive to the altering of operating conditions of the rotor. The elevated temperature around the shaft has increased its diameter, thereby reducing the lubricating gap. In spite of adverse operating conditions affecting the rotor, the whole system operated in a safe and stable manner.

The paper presents the results of numerical calculations of temperature and thermal stress distribution in thermal barrier coatings deposited by thermal spraying process on the nickel based superalloy. An assumption was made to apply conventional zirconium oxide modified with yttrium oxide (8YSZ) and apply pyrochlore type material with formula La2Zr2O7. The bond coat was made of NiCoCrAlY. Analysis of the distribution of temperature and stresses in ceramic coatings of different thicknesses was performed in the function of bond-coat thickness and the type of ceramic insulation layer. It was revealed that the thickness of NiCrAlY bond-coat has not significant influence on the stress distribution, but there is relatively strong effect on temperature level. The most important factor influenced on stress distribution in TBC system is related with type and properties of ceramic insulation layer.

Opis:
Thermal and time delay aspects of long interconnect lines have been investigated. To design a modern integrated circuit we need to focus on very long global interconnects in order to achieve the desired frequency and signal synchronization. The long interconnection lines introduce significant time delays and heat generation in the driver transistors. Introducing buffers helps to spread the heat production more homogenously along the line but consumes extra power and chip area. To ensure the functionality of the circuit, it is compulsory to give priority to the time delay aspect and then the optimized solution is found by making the power dissipation as homogenous as possible and consequently the temperature distribution T (relative to ambient) as low as possible. The technology used for simulations is 65 nm node. The occurring phenomena have been described in a quantitative and qualitative way.

The paper presents the results of simulation tests of hydraulic resistance and temperature distribution of the prototype Stirling alpha engine supplied with waste heat. The following elements were analyzed: heater, regenerator and cooler. The engine uses compressed air as a working gas. Analyses were carried out for three working pressure values and different engine speeds. The work was carried out in order to optimize the configuration of the engine due to the minimization of hydraulic resistance, while maintaining the required thermal capacity of the device. Preliminary tests carried out on the real object allowed to determine boundary and initial conditions for simulation purposes. The simulation assumes that there is no heat exchange between the regenerator and the environment. The solid model used in simulation tests includes the following elements: supply channel, heater, regenerator, cooler, discharge channel. Due to the symmetrical structure of the analyzed elements, simulation tests were carried out using 1/6 of the volume of the system.

Relatively cold die material comes into contact with the substantially higher temperature melt during the casting cycle, causing high thermal fluctuations resulting into the cyclic change of thermal field. The presented contribution is devoted to the assessment of the impact of temperature distribution on individual zones in the die volume. The evaluated parameter is the die temperature. It was monitored at two selected locations with the 1 mm, 2 mm, 5 mm, 10 mm and 20 mm spacing from the die cavity surface to the volume of cover die and ejector die. As a comparative parameter, the melt temperature in the middle of the runner above the measuring point and the melt temperature close to the die face were monitored. Overall, the temperature was monitored in 26 evaluation points. The measurement was performed using the Magmasoft simulation software. The input settings of the casting cycle in the simulation were identical to those in real operation. It was found, that the most heavily stressed die zones by temperature were within the 20 mm from the die face. Above this distance, the heat supplied by the melt passes gradually into the entire die mass without significant temperature fluctuations. To verify the impact of the die cooling on the thermal field, a tempering system was designed to ensure different heat dissipation conditions in individual locations. At the end of the contribution, the measures proposals to reduce the high change of thermal field of dies resulting from the design of the tempering channel are presented. These proposals will be experimentally verified in the following research work.

Opis:
Considering the developing role of the friction stir welding in manufacturing industry, a complete study on the process is necessary. Studies on each stage of the process in particular, provide a better understanding of friction stir welding, and specially friction stir spot welding. In this study, plunge stage has been studied by experimental methods for investigating the temperature distribution around the tool during the plunge stage and microstructure changes of the workpiece. Experiments were performed on aluminium 7050 plates with coincident measurement of temperature. In the study, the tool which has a triangle pin is used. The results of this study are used as initial conditions for theoretical analysis of welding process. The results show that the temperature distribution around the tool is quite asymmetric. The asymmetric distribution of temperature is due to nonuniform load distribution underneath the tool and tilt angle of it. The temperatures of the points behind the tool are higher compared with points located forward the tool. Microstructural studies showed that four regions with different microstructures are formed around the tool during the process. These areas were separated based on differences in grain size and elongations. Grains near the tool are elongated in a particular direction that show the material flow direction.

In recent time, as the Chinese consumption level increases, the consumption quantity of high-value fruits, vegetables and seafood products have been increasing year by year. As a consequence, the traffic volume of refrigerated products also increases yearly and the popularization degree of the cold-chain transportation enhances. A low-temperature environment should be guaranteed during transportation, thus there is about 40% of diesel oil should be consumed by the refrigerating system and the cold-chain transportation becomes very costly. This study aimed to explore methods that could reduce the cost of transport packages of refrigerated products. On the basis of the heat transfer theory and the fluid mechanics theory, the heat exchanging process of corrugated cases during the operation of refrigerating system was analyzed, the heat transfer process of corrugated cases and refrigerator van was theoretically analyzed and the heat balance equation of corrugated cases was constructed.

W pracy przedstawiono metodę optymalizacji procesu włączania do ruchu grubościennych elementów orurowania bloku energetycznego od stanu „zimnego" aż do osiągnięcia żądanych parametrów pracy. Wykorzystując sprzężoną analizę przepływowo-cieplno-wytrzymałościową połączoną z procedurą optymalizacyjną Levenberga-Marquardta wyznaczono przebieg temperatury na wlocie do analizowanego elementu, dla którego różnice pomiędzy maksymalnymi naprężeniami cieplnymi powstającymi podczas procesu nagrzewania a naprężeniami dopuszczalnymi osiągają minimalną wartość. Do wyznaczenia rozkładów temperatury w analizowanym elemencie oraz przepływającej w nim parze w kolejnych krokach czasowych analizy wykorzystano komercyjny kod numeryczny programu ANSYS-CFX dokonujący obliczeń metodą objętości kontrolnych. Na podstawie rozkładów temperatur metodą elementów skończonych w programie ANSYS wyznaczono odpowiadające im rozkłady naprężeń. Otrzymane wyniki zostały porównane z rozwiązaniami uzyskanymi dwoma alternatywnymi metodami opartymi na wykorzystaniu warunku brzegowego konwekcyjnego wnikania ciepła w warstwie przyściennej wewnętrznej powierzchni rurociągu.
Optimization method of the thick-walled pipeline start-up from the cold state is presented. A coulpled thermal-hydraulic and strain analysis is used together with Levenberg-Marquardt optimisation procedure for temperature distribution at inlet to the analysed element, at which differences between maximum thermal stresses appearing during heating process and allowable stresses reach maximum. In this algorithm the coupled thermal-fluid and thermal-strength problem is solved using the finite volume ANSYS-CFX software. The obtained temperature and stress distributions are compared with results from two methods applied only to solid element without CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) calculation. In the first method, fluid temperature and heat transfer coefficient are assumed to be constant in space at every time step. In the second method, fluid temperature and heat transfer coefficient vary in space and time. They are imported from CFD analysis.

Knowledge of the temperature distribution in subsurface layers of the ground is important in thedesign, modelling and exploitation of ground heat exchangers. In this work a mathematical model ofheat transfer in the ground is presented. The model is based on the solution of the equation of transientheat transfer in a semi-infinite medium. In the boundary condition on the surface of the groundradiation fluxes (short- and long-wave), convective heat flux and evaporative heat flux are taken intoaccount. Based on the developed model, calculations were carried out to determine the impact ofclimatic conditions and the physical properties of the ground on the parameters of the Carslaw-Jeagerequation. Example results of calculated yearly courses of the daily average temperature of the surfaceof the ground and the amount of particular heat fluxes on the ground surface are presented. Thecompatibility of ground temperature measurements at different depths with the results obtained fromthe Carslaw–Jaeger equation is evaluated. It was found thatthe temperature distribution in the groundand its variability in time can be calculated with good accuracy.

The problem of determination of the phase-change boundary position at the mathematical modeling of continuous ingot temperature field is considered. The description of the heat transfer process takes into account the dependence of the thermal physical characteristics on the temperature, so that the mathematical model is based on the nonlinear partial differential equations. The boundary position between liquid and solid phase is given by the temperatures equality condition and the Stefan condition for the two-dimensional case. The new method of calculation of the phase-change boundary position is proposed. This method based on the finite-differences with using explicit schemes and on the iteration method of solving of non-linear system equations. The proposed method of calculation is many times faster than the real time. So that it amenable to be used for model predictive control of continuous semifinished product solidification.

Opis:
Magnetic hysteresis occurs in most electrical engineering devices once soft ferromagnetic materials are exposed to relatively high temperatures. According to several scientific studies, magnetic properties are strongly influenced by temperature. The development of models that can accurately describe the thermal effect on ferromagnetic materials is still an issue that inspires researchers. In this paper, the effect of temperature on magnetic hysteresis for ferromagnetic materials is investigated using a self-developed numerical method based on the Preisach distribution function identification. It employs a parameter depending on both temperature and the Curie temperature. This approach is of the macroscopic phenomenological type, where the variation of the magnetization (in direct connection with the Preisach triangle) is related to the observed macroscopic hysteretic behavior. The isotropic character of the material medium is predominant. The technique relies on a few experimental data extracted from the first magnetization curve provided by metallurgists. The ultimate goal is to provide a simple and robust magnetic behavior modeling tool for designers of electrical devices. Temperature is introduced at the stage of identifying the distribution function of the Preisach model. This method is validated by the agreement between the experimental data and the simulation results. The developed method is very accurate and efficient in modeling the hysteresis of ferromagnetic materials in engineering particularly for systems with ferromagnetic components and electromagnetic-thermal coupling.
