Opis:
To stabilise the periodic operation of a chemical reactor the oscillation period should be determined precisely in real time. The method discussed in the paper is based on adaptive sampling of the state variable with the use of chaotic mapping to itself. It enables precise determination of the oscillation period in real time and could be used for a proper control system, that can successfully control the process of chemical reaction and maintain the oscillation period at a set level. The method was applied to a tank reactor and tubular reactor with recycle.

Chinese is a tonal language, which differentiates it from non-tonal languages in the Western countries. A Chinese character consists of an initial, a final, and a tone. In the present study, the effects of noise and reverberation on the Chinese syllable, initial, final, and tone identification in rooms were investigated by using simulated binaural impulse responses through auralization method. The results show that the syllable identification score is the lowest, the tone identification score is the highest, and the initial iden- tification scores are lower than those of the final identification under the same reverberation time and signal-to-noise ratio condition. The Chinese syllable, initial, and final identification scores increase with the increase of signal-to-noise ratio and decrease of the reverberation time. The noise and reverberation have insignificant effects on the Chinese tone identification scores under most room acoustical environ- ments. The statistical relationship between the Chinese syllable articulation and phoneme articulation had been experimentally proved under different noise and reverberation conditions in simulated rooms.

This paper presents an improved method for the reconstruction of busbar voltage waveforms from signals acquired by a system of electric field (EF) sensors located in an indoor medium voltage substation. In the previous work [8], the authors proposed the use of black-box models in the form of artificial neural networks (ANNs) for this task. In this paper it is shown that a parametric model of the system of EF sensors can reconstruct voltages with much lower errors, provided that it is accurately identified. The model identification is done by minimization of a nonlinear goal function, i.e. mean squared error (MSE) of voltage reconstruction. As a result of examining several optimization techniques, the method based on simulated annealing extended with a simplex search, is proposed. The performance of the model identified with this method is at least 8 times better in terms of MSE and at least 12 times better in terms of frequency domain errors than the best one of concurrent ANNs.

Mobile vehicle identification has a wide application field for both civilian and military uses. Vehicle identification may be achieved by incorporating single or multiple sensor solutions and through data fusion. This paper considers a single-sensor multistage hierarchical algorithm of acoustic signal analysis and pattern recognition for the identification of mobile vehicles in an open environment. The algorithm applies several standalone techniques to enable complex decision-making during event identification. Computationally inexpensive procedures are specifically chosen in order to provide real-time operation capability. The algorithm is tested on pre-recorded audio signals of civilian vehicles passing the measurement point and shows promising classification accuracy. Implementation on a specific embedded device is also presented and the capability of real-time operation on this device is demonstrated.

The article presents information fusion approach for song classification with use of acoustic signal. Many acoustic features can contribute to correct identification of a song. Taking into consideration only one set of features may result in omission of relevant information. It is possible to improve the accuracy of identification process by means of the information fusion technique, in which various aspects of acoustic fingerprint are taken into consideration. Two sets of signal features were distinguished: one were based on frequency analysis (harmonic elements) and the other were based on multidimensional correlation ratios. An identification of a commercial was made with use of SVM and k-NN classifiers. The music audio signal database was used for assessing the effectiveness of the proposed solution. Results show an improved effectiveness of identification in relation to applying only one set of song features.

The aim of this paper is to compare the efficiency of various outlier correction methods for ECG signal processing in biometric applications. The main idea is to correct anomalies in various segments of ECG waveform rather than skipping a corrupted ECG heartbeat in order to achieve better statistics. Experiments were performed using a self-collected Lviv Biometric Dataset. This database contains over 1400 records for 95 unique persons. The baseline identification accuracy without any correction is around 86%. After applying the outlier correction the results were improved up to 98% for autoencoder based algorithms and up to 97.1% for sliding Euclidean window. Adding outlier correction stage in the biometric identification process results in increased processing time (up to 20%), however, it is not critical in the most use-cases.

The paper presents an iterative identification method dedicated for industrial processes. The method consists of two steps. In the first step, a MISO system is identified with the Modulating Functions Method to obtain sub-models with a common denominator. In the second step, the obtained subsystems are re-identified. This procedure enables to obtain the set of models with different denominators of the transfer functions. The algorithm was used for on-line identification of a glass conditioning process. Identification window is divided into intervals, in which the models can be updated based on recent process data, with the use of the integral state observer. Results of the performed simulations for the identified models are compared with the historical process data.

This article presents the procedure of identification radar emitter sources with the trace distinctive features of original signal with the use of fractal features. It is a specific kind of identification called Specific Emitter Identification, where as a result of using transformations, which change measure points, a transformation attractor was received. The use of linear regression and the Lagrange polynomial interpolation resulted in the estimation of the measurement function. The method analysing properties of the measurement function which has been suggested by the authors caused the extraction of two additional distinctive features. These features extended the vector of basic radar signals’ parameters. The extended vector of radar signals’ features made it possible to identify the copy of radar emitter source.

Opis:
In the areas of acoustic research or applications that deal with not-precisely-known or variable condi- tions, a method of adaptation to the uncertainness or changes is usually necessary. When searching for an adaptation algorithm, it is hard to overlook the least mean squares (LMS) algorithm. Its simplicity, speed of computation, and robustness has won it a wide area of applications: from telecommunication, through acoustics and vibration, to seismology. The algorithm, however, still lacks a full theoretical analysis. This is probabely the cause of its main drawback: the need of a careful choice of the step size – which is the reason why so many variable step size flavors of the LMS algorithm has been developed. This paper contributes to both the above mentioned characteristics of the LMS algorithm. First, it shows a derivation of a new necessary condition for the LMS algorithm convergence. The condition, although weak, proved useful in developing a new variable step size LMS algorithm which appeared to be quite different from the algorithms known from the literature. Moreover, the algorithm proved to be effective in both simulations and laboratory experiments, covering two possible applications: adaptive line enhancement and active noise control.

The Chinese word identification and sentence intelligibility are evaluated by grades 3 and 5 students in the classrooms with different reverberation times (RTs) from three primary school under different signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). The relationships between subjective word identification and sentence intelligibility scores and speech transmission index (STI) are analyzed. The results show that both Chinese word identification and sentence intelligibility scores for grades 3 and 5 students in the classroom increased with the increase of SNR (and STI), increased with the increase of the age of students, and decreased with the increase of RT. To achieve a 99% sentence intelligibility score, the STIs required for grades 3, grade 5 students, and adults are 0.71, 0.61, and 0.51, respectively. The required objective acoustical index determined by a certain threshold of the word identification test might be underestimated for younger children (grade 3 students) in classroom but overestimated for adults. A method based on the sentence test is more useful for speech intelligibility evaluation in classrooms than that based on the word test for different age groups. Younger children need more favorable classroom acoustical environment with a higher STI than older children and adults to achieve the optimum speech communication in the classroom.

The paper presents a new, revisited and unified approach to a linear continuous-time dynamic single-input single-output system identification using input and output signal samples acquired with a deterministic constant or random sampling interval. The approach is based on a specially designed identification experiment with excitation of the form of a continuous-time multisine random excitation and digital processing of the corresponding signal samples obtained without analogue antialiasing filtration in the case of disturbances satisfying or not satisfying the Shannon's sampling theorem. Properties of the proposed approach are discussed taking into account nonlinearity of the excitation generation and data acquisition systems with a focus on model identification in the case of input and output signal levels comparable with data acquisition system accuracy. Methods reducing influence of the disturbances (including aliasing) as well as nonlinearities of the excitation generation and data acquisition systems on identification results are proposed, too.

The topology of low-voltage distribution systems changes with the load or the on/off position of the circuit switch. This will affect power flows, losses, and so on. This paper submits a new method to identify the topology of a low-voltage feeder using the injection high-frequency signal. An inductor can block the high-frequency signal. It can change the propagation direction of the injected high-frequency signal to make it propagate unidirectionally along the low-voltage feeder. By injecting a 5 MHz sinusoidal signal from the upstream direction of the low-voltage feeder, all the line segments and devices on the feeder can be identified. The wavelength of the high-frequency signal is short. The wavelength of the 5 MHz signal is 60 meters. Through the delay of different observation points on the feeder, the length of the line section can be roughly calculated. The high- frequency signal has an obvious reflection on the feeder. Using this feature, we can roughly calculate the length of the line segment. The correctness of the method is demonstrated by MATLAB simulation verification.
