Opis:
This research presents a 3D FE method for the simulation of the variable reluctance stepper motor dynamics. The proposed model is used to obtain the optimal minimum energy control law that minimizes the energy injected by the controller. The method is based on the strong coupling of field - circuit equations and extended to eddy current, motion and nonlinearity problem. The linearization technique for the coupled problem is presented. Also the lamination of the motor core is considered. In the paper the open - loop control problem is analyzed. The proposed model is validated by the comparison with measurements. Next, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed optimal minimum energy control method is applied. In both cases, the examination of the variable reluctance stepper motor dynamics and the steel loss in the core is presented and compared.

Opis:
In this paper a numerically efficient filter design method suitable for variable fractional delay (VFD) filter implementation is investigated. We propose to use a well known window method with an asymmetric window extracted from optimal filter designed beforehand. As we will demonstrate, such an approach, if additional gain correction is applied, allows for nearly optimal VFD filter design. Thus, the proposed approach combines window method simplicity with performance comparable to that of optimal filters. Efficiency of the presented technique makes it suitable for designing filters with varying delay in real time

Opis:
This paper presents the resolution of the optimal reactive power dispatch (ORPD) problem and the control of voltages in an electrical energy system by using a hybrid algorithm based on the particle swarmoptimization (PSO) method and interior point method (IPM). The IPM is based on the logarithmic barrier (LB-IPM) technique while respecting the non-linear equality and inequality constraints. The particle swarmoptimization-logarithmic barrier-interior point method (PSO-LB-IPM) is used to adjust the control variables, namely the reactive powers, the generator voltages and the load controllers of the transformers, in order to ensure convergence towards a better solution with the probability of reaching the global optimum. The proposed method was first tested and validated on a two-variable mathematical function using MATLAB as a calculation and execution tool, and then it is applied to the ORPD problem to minimize the total active losses in an electrical energy network. To validate the method a testwas carried out on the IEEE electrical energy network of 57 buses.

Opis:
In order to optimise the operation state of the distribution network in the presence of distributed generation (DG), to reduce network loss, balance load and improve power quality in the distribution system, a multi-objective fruit fly optimisation algorithm based on population Manhattan distance (pmdMOFOA) is presented. Firstly, the global and local exploration abilities of a fruit fly optimisation algorithm (FOA) are balanced by combining population Manhattan distance (PMD) and the dynamic step adjustment strategy to solve the problems of its weak local exploration ability and proneness to premature convergence. At the same time, Chebyshev chaotic mapping is introduced during position update of the fruit fly population to improve ability of fruit flies to escape the local optimum and avoid premature convergence. In addition, the external archive selection strategy is introduced to select the best individual in history to save in external archives according to the dominant relationship amongst individuals. The leader selection strategy, external archive update and maintenance strategy are proposed to generate a Pareto optimal solution set iteratively. Lastly, an optimal reconstruction scheme is determined by the fuzzy decision method. Compared with the standard FOA, the average convergence algebra of a pmdMOFOA is reduced by 44.58%. The distribution performance of non-dominated solutions of a pmdMOFOA, MOFOA, NSGA-III and MOPSO on the Pareto front is tested, and the results show that the pmdMOFOA has better diversity. Through the simulation and analysis of a typical IEEE 33-bus system with DG, load balance and voltage offset after reconfiguration are increased by 23.77% and 40.58%, respectively, and network loss is reduced by 57.22%, which verifies the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method.

Opis:
An optimal control theory based method is presented aiming at minimizing the energy delivered from source and the power loss in a stepper motor circuit. A linear quadratic current regulator with an infinite time horizon is employed and its appropriateness for this type of a problem explained. With the purpose of improving the accuracy of the control system, the self and mutual inductances of windings are calculated using a finite element model. The numerically computed results are verified experimentally.

Opis:
Na początku formułujemy problem wariacyjny poszukiwania kształtu konstrukcji, a następnie przedstawiamy numeryczną procedurę iteracyjną służącą do znajdowania optymalnego położenia węzłów siatki cięgnowej.
Tensile structures in general, achieve their load-carrying capability only after the process of initial form-finding. From the mechanical point of view, this process can be considered as a problem in statics. As cable systems are close siblings of trusses (cables, however, can carry tensile forces only), in our study we refer to equilibrium equation similar to those known from the theory of the latter. In particular, the paper regards designing pre-tensioned cable systems, with a goal to make them kinematically stable and such that the weight of so designed system is lowest possible. Unlike in typical topology optimization problems, our goal is not to optimize the structural layout against a particular applied load. However, our method uses much the same pattern. First, we formulate the variational problem of form-finding and next we describe the corresponding iterative numerical procedure for determining the optimum location of nodes of the cable system mesh. We base our study on the concept of force density which is a ratio of an axial force in cable segment to its length.

Opis:
The optimal design of excitation signal is a procedure of generating an informative input signal to extract the model parameters with maximum pertinence during the identification process. The fractional calculus provides many new possibilities for system modeling based on the definition of a derivative of noninteger-order. A novel optimal input design methodology for fractional-order systems identification is presented in the paper. The Oustaloup recursive approximation (ORA) method is used to obtain the fractional-order differentiation in an integer order state-space representation. Then, the presented methodology is utilized to solve optimal input design problem for fractional-order system identification. The fundamental objective of this approach is to design an input signal that yields maximum information on the value of the fractional-order model parameters to be estimated. The method described in this paper was verified using a numerical example, and the computational results were discussed.

Opis:
The paper considers parametric optimization problems for the steel bar structures formulated as nonlinear programming ones with variable unknown cross-sectional sizes of the structural members, as well as initial prestressing forces introduced into the specified redundant members of the structure. The system of constraints covers load-bearing capacity constraints for all the design sections of the structural members subjected to all the design load combinations at ultimate limit state, as well as displacement constraints for the specified nodes of the bar system, subjected to all design load combinations at serviceability limit state. The method of the objective function gradient projection onto the active constraints surface with simultaneous correction of the constraints violations has been used to solve the parametric optimization problem. A numerical technique to determine the optimal number of the redundant members to introduce the initial prestressing forces has been offered for high-order statically indeterminate bar structures. It reduces the dimension for the design variable vector of unknown initial prestressing forces for considered optimization problems.

Opis:
The goal of multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) is to select the most appropriate of the alternatives by evaluating many conflicting criteria together. MCDM methods are widely available in the literature and have been used in various energy problems. The key problems studied in electrical power systems in recent years have included voltage instability and voltage collapse. Different flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS) equipment has been used for this purpose for decades, increasing voltage stability while enhancing system efficiency, reliability and quality of supply, and offering environmental benefits. Finding the best locations for these devices in terms of voltage stability in actual electrical networks poses a serious problem. Many criteria should be considered when determining the most suitable location for the controller. The aim of this paper is to provide a comparative analysis of MCDM techniques to be used for optimal location of a static VAR compensator (SVC) device in terms of voltage stability. The ideal location can be determined by means of sorting according to priority criteria. The proposed approach was carried out using the Power System Analysis Toolbox (PSAT) in MATLAB in the IEEE 14-bus test system. Using ten different MCDM methods, the most appropriate locations were compared among themselves and a single ranking list was obtained, integrated with the Borda count method, which is a data fusion technique. The application results showed that the methods used are consistent among themselves. It was revealed that the integrated model was an appropriate method that could be used for optimal location selection, providing reliable and satisfactory results to power system planners.
