    Post-truth and parody in old and new media – This paper presents a description of a few issues of the satirical magazine Il Male, published in Italy in the second half of the 1970s. These special issues – somewhat parodies – copied the typographic format of the main Italian newspapers of that period and were filled with odd and invented news. In some respects these publications anticipate parody and falsification in the digital era. In particular, some Internet sites that play on the slight distinction between false and true reports, and make us reflect upon the reliability of the information, can be considered as heirs to this experiment.

    Opis:
    It is difficult to imagine linguistic minorities functioning in the modern world without their own media. In this article, the role and significance of minority media are examined through a broad anthropological perspective. The media not only transfers information and provides entertainment but also influences people’s perception of the world and the creation of imagined communities. Therefore, the media plays an essential role in the process of maintaining group cultural identity and raises the prestige of the minority language. This article considers the essential issues related to minority media and the ambivalent consequences for a minority group of their existence: i.e., protection of a minority language at the price of cultural uniformity, and the necessity of being financed from above resulting in limitations on the minority media’s scope. Based on examples from a few European linguistic minorities, some practical problems concerning the functioning of the minority press, radio, television, and Internet are presented.

    Opis:
    The article analyses the results of mass survey conducted in the framework of the project of the Volkswagen Foundation “Bi- and multilingualism between intensification of conflict and conflict resolution. Ethno-linguistic conflicts, language politics and contact situations in post-Soviet Ukraine and Russia”. Research’s aim was to understand to what extent the state language policy in the area of mass media and cultural sphere meet the expectations of the citizens of Ukraine. It underlines regionally marked attitude towards the strategy of language policy: the Western part of the country prefers Ukrainian language, South – Russian, and Center and North take intermediate positions.
    Artykuł analizuje część wyników masowego badania przeprowadzonego w ramach projektu Fundacji Volkswagen na temat sytuacji językowej w Ukrainie i Federacji Rosyjskiej. Celem badań było ustalenie, w jakim stopniu polityka językowa w sferze mediów masowych i kultury spełnia oczekiwania obywateli Ukrainy. Podkreśla to regionalne podejście do strategii polityki językowej: zachodnia część kraju preferuje język ukraiński, część południowa preferuje język rosyjski, a centrum i północ zajmująpozycje pośrednie.

    The subject of the present study is the persuasive function of irony in a special type of media discourse called socio-political editorial. The use of irony enables the journalist to establish the axiological domain of editorial in order to reinforce the information content and manipulate the readers’ opinions. Therefore, the main aim of the paper is to describe the problem of language manipulation in verbal irony considered by the author as one of semantico-rhetorical means of evaluation. The analyzed articles were culled from selected web pages of French journals and magazines (2005-2008) treating about two types of social reforms and the urban violence in French suburbs.
