Opis:
The extremely rapid development of modern techniques for analyzing the human genome, both in the field of scientific research and diagnostic applications, entails a variety of problems whose solution lags far behind our current technological capabilities. These problems appear in the ethical, social, legal or religious spheres and include such detailed issues as e.g. examination of children for diseases manifested in adulthood, accidental (secondary) results being a side effect of the analysis of the whole genome, the growing offer of tests directed directly to the recipient, patenting of genetic information, confidentiality of genetic data and their availability to third parties, availability of genetic counselling, etc. The legal regulation of these problems, the list of which is growing at an alarming rate, still remains in the sphere of declarations, and its shift to the sphere of real actions seems to be lagging further and further back in time. Do patients, laboratory diagnoses, doctors still have to be held hostage by the legislative impotence?

Opis:
The present report describes the new occurrence of Tomato mosaic virus (ToMV) in cabbage, bean and Malva neglecta plants in Iran. In this study, sequence analyses of a partial RNA dependent RNA polymerases (RdRp) and complete movement protein (MP) and the coat protein (CP) nucleotide sequences of three new ToMV isolates collected from major crop fields in Iran revealed low genetic variation of RdRp gene compared to the CP and MP genes. The different topologies of the phylogenetic trees constructed, using available open reading frame (ORF1), ORF2 and ORF3 sequences from ToMV isolates, indicated different evolutionary constraints in these genomic regions. Statistical analysis also revealed that with the exception of CP other tested ToMV genes were under negative selection and the RdRp gene was under the strongest constraints. According to the phylogenetic tree it can be inferred from the nucleotide sequences of the complete CP and MP genes, that isolates from Iran and Egypt formed separate groups, irrespective of host origin. However, isolates clustered into groups with correlation to geographic origin but not the host. Analysis of the Ks*, Z* and Snn values also indicated genetic differentiation between ToMV populations. The Tajima’s D, Fu and Li’s statistical values were significantly negative for the RdRp gene of the Asian population which suggests the sudden expansion of ToMV in Asia. Taken together, the results indicate that negative selection and genetic drift were important evolutionary factors driving the genetic diversification of ToMV.

”Bio” technologies are significant for the future prospects and for knowledge based bioeconomy in general. In the article we examine two areas of problems – one connected to the issue of use of genetic resources and traditional knowledge and another – connected to new plant breeding techniques. We examine whether the law is up to date with the developments in the area of biotechnology and if there is a need for legislative changes in these areas. As it turns out, the necessary legislation may be significantly behind the progress of bio-science. Also, we present potential paths for solving such problems.

To saturate barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) genetic maps the linkage relationships of two isoenzyme loci Amp2 (aminopeptydase) and Aat2 (aspartate aminotransferase) with known genetic markers were investigated. Results of the genetic analysis support previous information on the localization of these loci on chromosome 1 and 6, respectively. The following recombination values were estimated: between locus Amp2 and T1-3b translocation break point 13.8 ± 2.1%, between locus Aat2 and translocation T6-7i, 17 ± 3.0% and between locus Aat2 and marker о 24.1 ± 3.0%.

The tablet quality checking and identification in hospital pharmacies is done manually and does not use any automated solution. Manual sorting and handling makes this activity laborious and error-prone. This paper describes a low cost solution that is characterised by a small size of the infrastructure involved. Discussed are design and implementation details of Tablet Inspection System based on Machine Vision. The described process uses a dedicated sequence of operation to perform dispensing, scanning and sorting using mini factory setup. Machine Vision System uses a novel Genetic Evolution algorithm. The algorithm provides robust and scalable output. Due to its versatile nature and easy shape recognition ability the approach can be easily adapted to a large variety of medical tablets. The proposed solution attempts to follow the concept of single objective with multiple optima in GA that is designed to scan multiple number of tablets in one cycle of operation.

Scheduling of multiobjective problems has gained the interest of the researchers. Past many decades, various classical techniques have been developed to address the multiobjective problems, but evolutionary optimizations such as genetic algorithm, particle swarm, tabu search method and many more are being successfully used. Researchers have reported that hybrid of these algorithms has increased the efficiency and effectiveness of the solution. Genetic algorithms in conjunction with Pareto optimization are used to find the best solution for bi-criteria objectives. Numbers of applications involve many objective functions, and application of the Pareto front method may have a large number of potential solutions. Selecting a feasible solution from such a large set is difficult to arrive the right solution for the decision maker. In this paper Pareto front ranking method is proposed to select the best parents for producing offspring’s necessary to generate the new populations sets in genetic algorithms. The bi-criteria objectives minimizing the machine idleness and penalty cost for scheduling process is solved using genetic algorithm based Pareto front ranking method. The algorithm is coded in Matlab, and simulations were carried out for the crossover probability of 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, and 0.9. The results obtained from the simulations are encouraging and consistent for a crossover probability of 0.6.

Opis:
Background. The extensive use of pepper fruit creates a constant demand for new cultivars with specific agromorphological properties. The wide variety of breeding materials of this species means that methods based on morphological traits descriptions are not always sufficient to allow for their identification. Genetic homogeneity must be guaranteed to ensure repeatability of phenotypic traits. Most often, molecular analyses characterizing diversity at the DNA level are used for this purpose. Material and methods. The PCR-RAPD technique was used for molecular analysis of the generative offspring of three cultivars of pepper: “Anchi”, “Luba” and “Sono” and their forms of different fruit colour. The genetic distance between the tested genotypes was determined using the Nei and Li formula. Results. The reaction with 26 RAPD primers resulted in a total of 262 products and 5.2% of them were polymorphic bands. Eight of the used primers generated 12 polymorphic products that differentiated the tested genotypes. The “Anchi” cultivar was identified by the primers A07, K10, Q07 and AE10. Starter Q07 identified as well the “Luba” cultivar. Reactions carried out with primers B10 and RAD1 identified the “Sono” cultivar. In addition, primer A15 generated products that made it possible to distinguish yellow-fruit and red-fruit forms within the “Luba” and “Sono” cultivars. Conclusion. The analyses showed a low degree of genetic distance between C. annuum L. cultivars confirming the genetic homogeneity of the examined groups of plants and creating and opportunity for molecular identification of the genetic diversity within the “Luba” and “Sono” cultivars.
