In this work, thermo-mechanically treated 42CrMo steel was subjected to cryogenic treatment conducted by means of orthogonal design method, followed by low-temperature tempering to investigate the effect of different parameters of cryogenic treatment on wear resistance of 42CrMo steel and to optimize parameters of cryogenic treatment for improving wear resistance. The results of hardness test and wear test show that cryogenic treatment significantly improves wear resistance with marginal changes in coefficient of friction and hardness. Specifically, cryogenic temperature has the largest impact on wear resistance of 42CrMo steel, holding time has medium impact, and the parameter of treatment cycles has the least impact. The optimum parameters of cryogenic treatment are -196°C for 12 hours with one cycle for improving wear resistance. The results of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD) analysis indicate that marginal changes in hardness and coefficient of friction may be owing to little amount of transformation of retained austenite, and the significant influence of cryogenic treatment on improving wear resistance of 42CrMo steel can be mainly attributed to segregation of carbon atoms promoted by cryogenic treatment resulting in more precipitation of carbides in subsequent tempering.

Opis:
Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system requires consideration and ensuring efficient operating conditions for the most loaded parts in the product, not only at the product’s design stage, but also at the production stage. Operational properties of the product can be significantly improved if we take into consideration the formation of the functional surfaces wear resistance parameters already at the planning stage of the technological process structure and parameters of the product’s machining. The method of constructing predictive models of the influence of the technological process structure on the formation of a complex of product’s operational properties is described in the article. The relative index of operational wear resistance of the machined surface, which is characterized by the use of different variants of the structure and parameters of this surface treatment, depends on the microtopographic state of the surface layer and the presence of cutting-induced residual stress. On the example of the eject pin machining it has been shown how the change in the structure of the manufacturing process from grinding to the turning by tool with the tungsten carbide insert affects the predicted wear resistance of the machined functional surface.

Opis:
Effect of the tempering temperature of hardened carbon steel and conformable structural changes on physical-mechanical properties and tribological characteristics during dry sliding friction was researched. It is shown, that relation between adhesive and deformational components of the frictional force depends on acquired during tempering viscoelastic properties that influence on mechanism of the contact interaction and dissipative processes. Viscoelastic properties are detected by two basic rheological parameters: modulus of elasticity and damping capacity, with which the viscoelastic coefficient is connected. The theoretical analysis of dissipative properties of the viscoelastic frictional contact dissected subject to the structure of tempered steel on the base of examined standard rheological models.

Opis:
Frictional joint is the basic part of the friction props and yielding steel frames of dog headings. It constitutes a constructional connection and have decisive influence on the basic operational parameters of the steel frames and props, i.e. their loading capacity and yielding capacity. Currently applied constructions of frictional joints characterize with low loading capacity and unstable operation. In order to improve their operational parameters a new constructional solution of frictional joint, consisting on the application of resistance wedge assembled between the cooperating sections, was developed. Application of the resistance wedge caused an increase of resistances to motion in the frictional joint, what influenced on the increase of its loading capacity and on the increase of values of axial forces in the bolts of stirrups. In the paper results of stand tests of frictional joints with the resistance wedge, subjected to the static axial compression and impact of freely falling mass, were presented. In order to determine the influence of the resistance wedge on the operational parameters of the frictional joint, obtained results were compared with the results of studies of the frictional joints without the resistance wedge. On the basis of stand tests a physical and mathematical models of the frictional joint with the resistance wedge, were developed, and utilized to simulation analysis of its operation at impulse loading. On the basis of conducted tests and analysis one can state, that application of the resistance wedge influences on the enhancement of loading capacity, improves the state of loading the bolts in stirrups, and creates possibility of regulation of operational characteristics of the frictional joints.
Złącze cierne jest podstawową częścią stojaków ciernych oraz odrzwi obudowy podatnej wyrobisk korytarzowych. Stanowi ono połączenie konstrukcyjne i ma decydujący wpływ na podstawowe parametry pracy odrzwi i stojaków, czyli na ich nośność i podatność. Obecnie stosowane konstrukcje złączy ciernych charakteryzują się niską nośnością oraz niestabilną pracą. W celu poprawy parametrów ich pracy opracowano nowe rozwiązanie konstrukcyjne złącza ciernego polegające na zastosowaniu klina oporowego montowanego między współpracującymi kształtownikami. Zastosowanie klina oporowego spowodowało wzrost oporów ruchu w złączu ciernym, co wpłynęło na wzrost jego nośności oraz na wzrost wartości sił osiowych w śrubach strzemion. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań stanowiskowych złączy ciernych z klinem oporowym poddanych statycznemu osiowemu ściskaniu oraz udarowemu obciążeniu swobodnie spadającą masą. W celu określenia wpływu klina oporowego na parametry pracy złącza ciernego uzyskane wyniki porównano z wynikami badań złączy ciernych bez klina oporowego. W oparciu o badania stanowiskowe opracowano modele fizyczny i matematyczny złącza ciernego z klinem oporowym, które wykorzystano do analizy symulacyjnej jego pracy przy impulsowym obciążeniu. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań i analiz można stwierdzić, że zastosowanie klina oporowego wpływa na podwyższenie nośności złącza ciernego, poprawia stan obciążenia śrub strzemion oraz stwarza możliwości regulacji charakterystyk pracy złączy ciernych.

Opis:
Results of complex mathematical and computer simulation of gear hobbing are given. A systematic approach to research allowed for the development of simulation models and sequencing of all aspects of this complex process. Based on the modeling of non-deformable chips, a new analytical method for analyzing hobbing has been proposed. The shear, friction and cutting forces at the level of certain teeth and edges in the active space of the cutter are analyzed depending on the cut thickness, cross-sectional area, intensity of plastic deformation and length of contact with the workpiece has been developed. The results of computer simulations made it possible to evaluate the load distribution along the cutting edge and to predict the wear resistance and durability of the hob cutter, as well as to develop measures and recommendations for both the tool design and the technology of hobbing in general. Changing the shape of cutting surface, or the design of the tooth, can facilitate separation of the cutting process between the head and leading and trailing edges. In this way, more efficient hobbing conditions can be achieved and the life of the hob can be extended.

Opis:
The paper concerns evaluation of the coefficient of friction characterising a friction couple comprising a commercial brake disc cast of flake graphite grey iron and a typical brake pad for passenger motor car. For the applied interaction conditions, the brake pressure of 0.53 MPa and the linear velocity measured on the pad-disc trace axis equalling 15 km/h, evolution of the friction coefficient μ values were observed. It turned out that after a period of 50 minutes, temperature reached the value 270°C and got stabilised. After this time interval, the friction coefficient value also got stabilised on the level of μ = 0.38. In case of a block in its original state, stabilisation of the friction coefficient value occurred after a stage in the course of which a continuous growth of its value was observed up to the level μ = 0.41 and then a decrease to the value μ = 0.38. It can be assumed that occurrence of this stage was an effect of an initial running-in of the friction couple. In consecutive abrasion tests on the same friction couple, the friction coefficient value stabilisation occurred after the stage of a steady increase of its value. It can be stated that the stage corresponded to a secondary running-in of the friction couple. The observed stages lasted for similar periods of time and ended with reaching the stabile level of temperature of the disc-pad contact surface.

Opis:
In the present work copper was strenghtened with 20 and 30 vol. % of alumina particles characterized by diameter of 3-6μm. The copper based composite materials were manufactured by the squeeze casting method. Preheated preforms made from Al2O3 particles were placed in the desired place in the heated cast die and the squeeze casting process with liquid copper was performed applying the infiltration pressure of 90MPa and pressure was kept for 10-15s until solidification was complete. The microstructure and physical properties: Brinell hardness (HBW) and density were characterized. Metallografic examinations showed that alumina particles were uniformly distributed in the copper matrix. Hardness of 208 HBW for composite materials containing 30 vol.% of particles was achieved. Wear investigations were performed applying the tribological pin-on-disc tester. Friction forces between copper based composite materials containing 20 and 30 vol. % of Al2O3 particles and cast iron were registered and wear was determined on the base of the specimen mass loss after 1.0, 3.5 and 8.5 km friction distance.
