    Debata toczy się wokół dwóch kluczowych momentów życia pary, jakimi są zamieszkanie i ślub oraz związane z nimi praktyki. Według uczestniczek i uczestników debaty, mimo że związek może trwać i bez tych wydarzeń, to z badań nad parami wynika, że stanowią one ważne punkty zwrotne. W prezentowanej rozmowie zebrano wnioski o kondycji par w Polsce, z uwzględnieniem różnic i podobieństw pomiędzy parami jedno i dwupłciowymi, a także różnic związanych z wiekiem, wykształceniem i pochodzeniem (zarówno narodowym, jak i klasowym).
    The roundtable discussion revolves around the two key moments in a couple’s life: living together and marriage (and related practices). The participants of the discussion have agreed that although the relationship can last without these two moments, they are important turning points for the study of pairs. In the debate, the findings concerning the condition of couples in Poland have been presented, and particular attention has been paid to the differences and similarities between one and two-sex couples as well as between the couples of different age, education and origin, understood as both national and class background.

    In this paper, the effect of magnetic field on thermal convection in couple-stress fluid saturating a porous medium is considered. By applying linear stability theory and the normal mode analysis method, a mathematical theorem is derived which states that the viscoelastic thermal convection at marginal state, cannot manifest as stationary convection if the thermal Rayleigh number R, the medium permeability parameter Pι the couple-stress parameter F and the Chandrasekher number Q, satisfy the inequality R ≤4π2/Pl (1 + 2π2F + PlQ/2ε) the result clearly establishes the stabilizing character of couple-stress parameter and magnetic field whereas destabilizing character of medium permeability.

    Opis:
    Bone loss is one of the serious health issues in bedridden patients or young generation due to lack of physical activities. Mechanical forces are exerted on the bones through ground reaction forces, liquid loadings and by other contraction activities of the muscles. We are assuming an isotropic half-space with mechanical properties equivalent to that of bone exhibiting microstructures. Consistent couple stress theory introduces an additional material parameter called characteristic length which accounts for inner microstructure of the material. Dispersion relations for leaky Rayleigh waves are derived by considering a model consisting of couple stress half space under the effects of gravity and loaded with inviscid liquid layer of finite thickness or a liquid half space. Impact of the gravity, liquid loadings and microstructures of the material are investigated on propagation of leaky Rayleigh type waves. Phase velocity of leaky Rayleigh waves is studied for five different values of characteristic length parameter which are of the order of internal cell size of the considered material. Variations in phase velocity of leaky Rayleigh waves are also studied under the effect of gravity parameter and thickness of liquid loadings.

    This paper concerns the analytical investigation of the axisymmetric and steady flow of incompressible couple stress fluid through a rigid sphere embedded in a porous medium. In the porous region, the flow field is governed by Brinkman’s equation. Here we consider uniform flow at a distance from the sphere. The boundary conditions applied on the surface of the sphere are the slip condition and zero couple stress. Analytical solution of the problem in the terms of stream function is presented by modified Bessel functions. The drag experienced by an incompressible couple stress fluid on the sphere within the porous medium is calculated. The effects of the slip parameter, the couple stress parameter, and permeability on the drag are represented graphically. Special cases of viscous flow through a sphere are obtained and the results are compared with earlier published results.

    In this paper, effect of Hall currents on the thermal instability of couple-stress fluid permeated with dust particles has been considered. Following the linearized stability theory and normal mode analysis, the dispersion relation is obtained. For the case of stationary convection, dust particles and Hall currents are found to have destabilizing effect while couple stresses have stabilizing effect on the system. Magnetic field induced by Hall currents has stabilizing/destabilizing effect under certain conditions. It is found that due to the presence of Hall currents (hence magnetic field), oscillatory modes are produced which were non-existent in their absence.

    Opis:
    This article employs the classical Euler–Bernoulli beam theory in connection with Green–Naghdi’s generalized thermoelasticity theory without energy dissipation to investigate the vibrating microbeam. The microbeam is considered with linearly varying thickness and subjected to various boundary conditions. The heat and motion equations are obtained using the modified couple stress analysis in terms of deflection with only one material length-scale parameter to capture the size-dependent behavior. Various combinations of free, simply-supported, and clamped boundary conditions are presented. The effect of length-to-thickness ratio, as well as the influence of both couple stress parameter and thermoelastic coupling, are all discussed. Furthermore, the effect of reference temperature on the eigenfrequency is also investigated. The vibration frequencies indicate that the tapered microbeam modeled by modified couple stress analysis causes more responses than that modeled by classical continuum beam theory, even the thermoelastic coupled is taken into account.

    The article is written to acquaint the Polish reader with a French sociologist, Jean-Claude Kaufmann. On the example of washing machine and washing as a domestic chore, Jean-Claude Kaufmann explains how a modern couple is created nowadays and how it functions struggling with the ideas of equality. It is an image of the lives of men and women all over the world, undergoing the process of democratization of family life. Kaufmann describes how ordinary people cope with changes that had been foreseen by Norbert Elias in The Society of Individuals. The way Kaufmann analyzes a couple is unique and comprehensive, valid also for other languages and cultures. The article reviews Kaufmann’ sociological ideas of negative capital, domestic integration and the condition of man as a pupil of his wife. Moreover, it explains how to manage Jean-Claude Kaufmann’s method of comprehensive interview. By introducing a heretofore unknown sociologist it shows the readers how to observe the world of modern family in an original and interesting way.
    Artykuł przybliża polskim czytelnikom socjologię francuskiego socjologa Jeana-Claude’a Kaufmanna. Na przykładzie sprzętu gospodarstwa domowego – pralki automatycznej i domowego obowiązku – czynności prania wyjaśnia on, jak tworzy się i funkcjonuje współczesna para borykająca się z ideami równouprawnienia. W portrecie takiej pary potrafią odnaleźć się kobiety i mężczyźni mieszkający na całym świecie, dotknięci procesami demokratyzacji życia rodzinnego. Kaufmann opisuje, jak radzą sobie zwykli ludzie z przemianami, które przewidział Norbert Elias w Społeczeństwie jednostek. Sposób przyglądania się i badania par jest unikatowy i przekładalny na inne języki i kultury. Artykuł omawia stworzone przez Kaufmanna pojęcia kapitału negatywnego, integracji domowej, kondycji męża ucznia żony. Pokazuje, jak stosować jego metodę zwaną wywiadem rozumiejącym. Przedstawiając mało znanego w Polsce socjologa przyczynia się do zapoznania czytelników z nietypowym sposobem patrzenia na świat współczesnej rodziny.

    Celem artykułu jest prezentacja i uwspólnienie doświadczeń oraz wniosków płynących z jakościowych badań skoncentrowanych na parze i różnych aspektach jej funkcjonowania, prowadzonych w Polsce przez ostatnią dekadę przez wybrane zespoły badawcze. Odwołując się do przykładów z badań terenowych wskazujemy na szereg praktycznych oraz sytuacyjnych aspektów badania par i pokazujemy, że w celu zgłębienia relacji między dwojgiem ludzi i zrozumienia dynamiki ich wspólnego życia konieczne jest zastosowanie różnych konfiguracji metod i narzędzi badawczych. Bazując na wnioskach z realizacji różnych projektów badawczych proponujemy podejście oparte na trzech filarach: zastosowaniu wywiadu diadycznego, połączeniu go z wywiadami indywidualnymi oraz prowadzeniu badań nad parą w formie wizyt domowych w schemacie podłużnym. Dzięki refleksji nad już zrealizowanymi projektami możliwe było stworzenie metodologicznych rekomendacji dla badaczy i badaczek planujących w przyszłości prowadzenie badań w tym obszarze.
    The aim of the article is to present the frameworks and findings of qualitative research focused on couples and various aspects of their functioning. The research has been conducted by several research teams in Poland over the last decade. Relying on the examples from the field, we point to a number of practical and situational aspects of research on couples. We argue that in exploring the relationship between two people and in understanding the dynamics of their life together, it is crucial to use different sets of research methods and tools. Drawing on the findings from several research projects, we propose an approach based on three pillars: using a dyadic interview, combining a dyadic interview with an individual interview, and conducting research on couples through repeated home visits stretched over long period of time. Being an outcome of the conducted projects, the methodological recommendations for the researchers planning the studies in this subject area are suggested.

    The author begins by addressing theories in which love is either the key bond in intimate interpersonal relations (Giddens, Beck, Illouz) or is a set of everyday practices aimed at generating and maintaining a close relationship (Kauffman) and in which love can be understood through certain signs and symbols and other structures of meaning (Danesi). The author’s analysis conforms to the concepts of the sociology of everyday life, the sociology of the couple, and the theory of social practices, according to which an intimate relationship is built on the basis of a couple’s daily activities, which “produce” that relationship through their repetition. The author analyzes ways of showing love to one another in everyday practices and attempts to embed these gestures and symbols in cultural conditions. The author’s reflections are based on a qualitative analysis of empirical research.

    In this paper, nonlinear free vibration analysis of micro-beams resting on the viscoelastic foundation is investigated by the use of the modified couple stress theory, which is able to capture the size effects for structures in micron and sub-micron scales. To this aim, the governing equation of motion and the boundary conditions are derived using the Euler–Bernoulli beam and the Hamilton’s principle. The Galerkin method is employed to solve the governing nonlinear differential equation and obtain the frequency-amplitude algebraic equation. Finally, the effects of different parameters, such as the mode number, aspect ratio of length to height, the normalized length scale parameter and foundation parameters on the natural frequency-amplitude curves of doubly simply supported beams are studied.
