Opis:: Patients with coronary chronic total occlusions have usually anginal symptoms, reversible ischemia on stress testing and viable myocardium subtended by the occluded artery. Notwithstanding the optimal clinical characteristics for revascularization by means of percutaneous coronary intervention, the majority of subjects with chronic total occlusions are treated medically or referred for coronary artery bypass grafting. This review highlights the evolution and latest advancements in percutaneous techniques and technologies for revascularization of CTO.

Opis:: According to Information-Motivation-Behavioural Skills model (IMB), accurate Information, strong Motivation and adequate Behavioural skills are prerequisites of treatment adherence. This model has been verified among chronically ills patients, usually suffering from one particular disorder. No studies report how the model fits data from a more diverse group. The aim of the study was to analyze adherence and its barriers in a group of three hundred patients suffering from various, common chronic disorders. They filled out IMB and Adherence Questionnaire. Information and Motivation correlated moderately (.35). Behavioural Skills was the strongest predictor of adherence (.24). An additional relationship was found: Information and Motivation interacted and the role of either of these dimensions vanished if the indices of the other were high enough. The relationships between IMB dimensions and adherence were confirmed in a varied clinical sample. Behavioural skills must be considered when working with non-adherent patients, as they are the strongest predictor of adherence. Other interventions may be limited to either Information or Motivation only if there is a chance of raising one of them to extreme levels. This may be useful with special cases, when increasing both is problematic.

Opis:: Ash dieback, caused by Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, is a serious disease of common and narrow-leaved ash in Europe. The resistance of individual trees seems to be important for the maintenance of ash in European forests. In this in situ wound inoculation study, the susceptibility and differences in resistance to H. fraxineus between Fraxinus excelsior and F. angustifolia clones were assessed. Neither of the tested clones revealed total resistance to ash dieback; variety between the tested clones was observed. Differences in necroses lengths were significant between clones and between two ash species. Longer necroses were formed in F. angustifolia than in F. excelsior. Some clones exhibiting some resistance to the pathogen were identified.

Opis:: Chronic heart failure is a syndrome consisting in clinical symptoms that arise as a result of complications of many disease entities. According to the definition it is a condition in which, as a consequence of permanent heart dysfunction, cardiac output is reduced in relation to tissues’ metabolic demand. This results in subjective symptoms or proper cardiac output is sustained over higher filling pressure of the left heart ventricle. The occurrence of disease among adults in Europe and North America is 0.4-2%. Heart dysfunction detected by echocardiography appears with the frequency of 3%, and in people over 60 years of age it doubles with each decade of life, reaching 10% after 80 years of age. The aim of the study is to make an acquisition of fremitus in apex beat place and quantitative evaluation of some of their features which are correlated with the advanced syndrome. We have built the apparatus for the heart signal recording and proposed the original method of its analysis based on the theory of chaos and recurrence plots. It gave us, on the group of 85 patients, sensitivity equal to 0.896 specificity equal to 0.676 and the accuracy of diagnostics of the chronic heart failure equal up to 80%.
