Industrial steelmaking (EAF) flue dust was characterized in terms of chemical and phase compositions, leaching behaviour in 20% sulphuric acid solution as well as leaching thermal effect. Waste product contained about 43% Zn, 27% Fe, 19% O, about 3% Pb and Mn and lesser amounts of other elements (Ca, Si, Mo, etc.). It consisted mainly of oxide-type compounds of iron and zinc. Dissolution of metals (Zn, Fe, Mn) from the dust was determined in a dependence of solid to liquid ratio (50-200 g/L), temperature (20-80°C) and leaching time (up to 120 min). The best result of 60% zinc recovery was obtained for 50 g dust/L and a temperature of 80°C. Leaching of the material was an exothermic process with a reaction heat of about –318 kJ/kg. Precipitation purification of the solution was realized using various ratios of H2 O2 to NH3aq . A product of this stage was hydrated iron(III) oxide. Final solution was used for zinc electrowinning. Despite that pure zinc was obtained the highest cathodic current efficiency was only 40%.

Accordingly with the principles of the circular economy, mixed plastic wastes can be recycled also by thermoforming, getting new non-oriented fibers composite materials. This study highlights the mechanical behavior of new composite material plates containing recycled glass fibers as reinforcing element and ABS-PMMA mixture as matrix, as well as an efficient way to convert a manufacturing process wastes in a product. The mechanical behavior of new composite material plates was evidenced by tensile, flexural and compression tests. In addition a surface morphology analysis was performed.

The article presents the results of fatigue life tests and microstructure examinations of A359 alloy matrix composites (F3S.10S and F3S.30S) containing 10 and 30wt% of SiC particles, subjected to multiple remelting by conventional gravity casting. Mechanical characteristics were determined in a modified low cycle fatigue (MLCF) test, enabling rapid estimation of fatigue life and other mechanical parameters in practice of any material. Qualitative and quantitative metallographic examinations were also carried out. The quantitative evaluation of microstructure was performed by computer image analysis. A set of geometrical parameters of the reinforcing particles, pores and eutectic precipitates present in the metal matrix was determined. The relationships between the mechanical parameters, structural characteristics and the number of remelting operations were presented. It was found that up to the fourth remelting, the mechanical characteristics, including fatigue life, are slightly deteriorated but decrease gradually in the subsequent operations of remelting. The observed effect is mainly due to the shrinkage porosity occurring as a result of gravity casting. To eliminate this defect, the use of squeeze casting process was recommended. It has also been shown that multiple remelting can be an easy and economically well-founded alternative to other more expensive recycling methods.

Opis:
The paper presents the issues related to modeling of a vehicle recycling network. The functioning of the recycling network is within the realm of interest of a variety of government agendas, companies participating in the network, vehicle manufacturers and vehicle end users. The interests of these groups need to be considered when deciding about the network organization. The paper presents bicriteria models of network entity location that take into account the preferences of the vehicle owners and network participants related to the network construction and reorganization. A mathematical formulation of the optimization tasks has been presented including the objective functions and limitations that the solutions have to comply with. Then, the models were used for the network optimization in Poland.
W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienia modelowania sieci recyklingu pojazdów samochodowych. Funkcjonowaniem sieci recyklingu zainteresowane są różne podmioty od administracji państwowej, przez przedsiębiorstwa uczestniczące w sieci, producentów samochodów po właścicieli pojazdów. Interesy tych grup należy uwzględnić przy podejmowaniu decyzji dotyczących organizacji sieci. W artykule przedstawiono dwukryterialne modele lokalizacji podmiotów sieci uwzględniające preferencje właścicieli pojazdów i uczestników sieci służące do budowy i przebudowy sieci recyklingu. Przedstawiono sformułowanie matematyczne zadań optymalizacyjnych, ograniczenia, które muszą spełniać rozwiązania oraz funkcję kryterium. Następnie modele zostały zastosowane do optymalizacji sieci recyklingu w Polsce.

Opis:
FeCl3 bearing etching solution is mainly used for etching of metals used in shadow masks, PCBs and so on. Due course of Invar alloy etching process the FeCl3 bearing etching solution get contaminated with Ni2+ which affect adversely the etching efficiency. Hence, FeCl3 bearing etching solution discarded after several cycle of operation causes an environmental and economic problem. To address both the issues the etching solution was purified through solvent extraction and remained Ni2+ recovered by wet chemical reduction using hydrazine. For optimum Fe3+ extraction efficiency, various extraction parameter were optimized and size and morphology of the recovered pure Ni powder was analyzed. The reported process is a simple process to purify and recover Ni from industry etching solution.

Ferrotitanium can be produced as a method of recycling Ti scraps. The eutectic composition of ferrotitanium, Fe29.5Ti70.5, can be obtained as a nanocrystalline phase due to relatively low melting point. Fe29.5Ti70.5 in which FeTi and β-Ti form a lamellar structure have high strength but low strain. To improve this, impurities were removed through hydrogen plasma arc melting (HPAM) and annealed. HPAM can remove substitutional/interstitial solid solutions. As a result, from 6733 ppm to 4573 ppm of initial impurities were removed by HPAM process. In addition, the strain was improved by spheroidizing and coarsening the lamellar structure through annealing. The effect of impurities removed through HPAM on the Young’s modulus, yield strength, and strain was observed.

In this paper, the kinetics of the platinum(IV) chloride complex ions reduction reaction was studied. It was shown that the mechanism exhibits autocatalytic character. The presence of metallic platinum in the system significantly increases the reaction rate. The influence of the initial concentration of precursor, reductant, ionic strength, initial concentration of the chloride ions as well as the temperature on the process rate was investigated. The activation energy was determined and is equal to 93.57 kJ/mol. Moreover, the obtained metallic phase was analyzed, and it was observed that it has a micrometric size.

Various types of waste materials containing zinc (e.g. dusts and sludges from gas dedusting process) are obtained in steel industry. The contents of Zn in these materials may vary considerably. Even a low concentration of zinc in recirculated products precludes their recycling in ferrous metallurgy aggregates. Long storage of this type of material can lead to contamination of soil and water by zinc compounds which can be leached out by acid rain, for example. This paper focuses on research involving alkaline leaching tests of low zinc content iron-bearing materials. These tests were preceded by the analysis of the elemental, phase and grain size composition, and analysis of the thermodynamic conditions of the leaching process. The main aim of research was to decrease the content of the zinc in the sludge to the level where it is suitable as an iron-bearing material for iron production (~1% Zn). Leaching at elevated temperatures (368 K, 60 min) has led to a decrease in the zinc content in the sludge of about 66%. The research revealed that long hour leaching (298 K, 100 hours) carried out at ambient temperatures caused a reduction in zinc content by 60% to the value of 1.15-1.2% Zn.

In this paper, a simple and effective method for gold recovery is described. The paper describes a way to recover gold onto activated carbon from a synthetic solution of gold(III) chloride. The method can also be used on nickel(II) as well as copper(II) chloride of where the metal ion ratios are comparable to the metal ratios found in some electronic waste. With the use of activated carbon in the process of electrolyte purification it is possible to selectively remove gold in metallic form from the solution. XPS studies have confirmed that metallic gold is present on the carbon surface. A spectrophotometric method was used to determine the concentration of Au(III) in the solution. Different concentration of nickel(II) as well as copper(II) were investigated. In all cases, adsorption and reduction of Au(III) to the metallic form was observed.

This article presents qualitative and quantitative analysis of the waste produced by KGHM Polska Miedź. The waste has been analyzed according to its chemical composition and balanced in order to be reused and recycled. Special attention has been paid to mining industries producing the biggest amount of waste and ore enrichment businesses generating waste, which isn’t reused nowadays. Laboratory reseach has been conducted on floatation waste, different kinds of slags, waste gases and water slag extracts. Attention has been drawn to the possibility of using a computer program SLAG - PROP for analyzing physicochemical features, technological features and the refining of the acquired waste. Consequently, the further way of utilization of waste has been shown. From this point of view, analyses of DTA and TG slags in an oxide coating seem especially interesting. Having a particular composition they can be successfully utillised in the refining processes of copper pyrometallyrgy.

This study investigates the effects of repetitive injection molding on the properties of feedstock using the AISI 4140 feedstock. The properties of feedstock are evaluated from the mixing homogeneity of powder and binder, rheological properties, and dimensional accuracy of parts sintered. The feedstock after the 1st injection molding shows a better homogeneity than as-received feedstock due to re-mixing effects between the screw and barrel during the injection molding process. As the number of recycling numbers increases, the homogeneity, viscosities ad shrinkage ratio of recycled feedstocks show slight differences with those of the as-received feedstock until the 6th molding injection. However, some rheological parameters like the moldability index sharply increased up to the 4th injection but shows a tendency to decrease thereafter.

Konwencja z Hongkongu stanowi międzynarodową próbę uregulowania zagadnienia złomowania statków morskich. Ma na celu zapewnienie, aby statki poddane recyklingowi po zakończeniu ich eksploatacji nie stanowiły niepotrzebnego ryzyka dla zdrowia, bezpieczeństwa i środowiska naturalnego. Jej celem jest rozwiązanie wszystkich problemów związanych z recyklingiem statków, w tym faktu, że statki sprzedawane na złom mogą zawierać substancje niebezpieczne dla środowiska, takie jak azbest, metale ciężkie, węglowodory, substancje zubożające warstwę ozonową i inne. Postanowienia Konwencji mają również na celu poprawę warunków pracy i środowiska naturalnego w wielu miejscach recyklingu statków na świecie. Druga część artykułu na temat złomowania statków morskich stanowi tłumaczenie na język polski angielskiego tekstu Konwencji przyjętego w maju 2009 r. przez Międzynarodową konferencję w sprawie bezpiecznego i przyjaznego dla środowiska recyklingu statków.

This article discusses issues related to continuous casting of brass. The tested material was CuZn39Pb2 brass with the use of continuous casting and different parameters of the process. The position consists of a melting furnace with a graphite refining pot of about 4000 cm3 chuting capacity, a graphite crystallizer of 9,5 mm nominal diameter, a primary and secondary cooling system and an extracting system as well. The analysis was carried out in terms of technological parameters of the process and type of charge. Highlighted: feedrate ingot, number of stops, and technological temperatures. The surface quality of the obtained ingots and the structure were analyzed. The most favorable conditions were indicated and technological recommendations indicated. They have been distinguished for ingots for plasticity and other technologies. Favorable casting conditions are low feed and low temperature. Due to the presence of impurities coming from the charge it is disadvantageous to have Ni greater than 0.053% by mass, and Fe more than 0.075% by mass. It is recommended to maintain a high zinc content in the melt which is associated with non-overheating of the metal during casting and earlier melting.

The article presents an outline of the new technology of pyrometallurgical processing of slag in the direct-to-blister process. The analysis is based on the example of the production process of KGHM Polish Copper SA. A new way of implementing the technology of recovery of copper from the flash furnace slag by means of different feedstocks has been proposed. The method of controlling the processes is another innovation discussed in the paper. The presented concept intensify the reduction reactions, using the Carbo-N-Ox method, of copper compounds to forms of metallic phases in the slag. The processes of coagulation are accelerated and the processes crystallization of metallic phases are under control.
W artykule przedstawiono zarys nowej technologii pyrometalurgicznego przetwarzania żużli w procesie jednostadialnego otrzymywania miedzi. Zaproponowano nowy sposób realizacji technologii odzyskiwania miedzi z żużli z pieca zawiesinowego z zastosowaniem odmiennych materiałów wsadowych. Zaproponowano sposób sterowania procesami. Proponowana koncepcja prowadzi do intensyfikowania reakcje redukcji związków miedzi, metodą Carbo-N-Ox, do postaci faz metalicznych w żużlu. Przyspieszone też zostaną procesy koagulacji faz metalicznych. Zaproponowany został sposób analizy formowania się faz metalicznych w żużlu.
