Opis:
A numerical analysis is performed of the stress field in and around inclusions of various shapes. Inclusions both stiffer and more compliant than the metal matrix are analysed. The critical stresses required for inclusion fracture are estimated after observation of cavities and inclusions by scanning electron microscopy. Real inclusions were observed after performing uniaxial loading to different amounts of overall strain. The material tested was Hardox-400 steel.

Because of an aging society and the relevance of computer-based systems in a variety of fields of our life, personalization of software systems is becoming more important by the day in order to prevent usage errors and create a good user experience. However, personalization typically is a time-consuming and costly process if it is done through manual configuration. Automated adaptation to specific users’ needs is, therefore, a useful way to reduce the efforts necessary. The IAAA project focuses on the analysis of user interaction capabilities and the implementation of automated adaptations based on them. However, the success of these endeavors is strongly reliant on a careful selection of interaction modalities as well as profound knowledge of the target group’s general interaction behavior. Therefore, as a first step in the project, an extensive task-based user observation with thorough involvement of the actual target group was conducted in order to determine input devices and modalities that would in a second step become subject of the first prototypic implementations. This paper discusses the general objectives of the IAAA project, describes the methodology and aims behind the user observation and presents its results.

The purpose of this project was to investigate, as part of an explorative-type research project, whether art – in this case music and dance – can act as a tool capable of favouring social integration within modern intercultural and multi-religious social contexts, while, at the same time, fostering cohesion between the members of Italy’s largest Bangladeshi community, that of Rome. The researcher chose a qualitative methodological approach, grounded in participant observation of social, political Bangladeshi events and religious Festivals held in Rome, as well as investigation of lessons in singing, instrumental music and private dancing lessons conducted by the Sanchari Sangeetayan School and promoted by the new generations of Bangladeshi resident in Rome.

This CEEMR special section examines encounters and interactions between migrants as newcomers and their hosts. Our exploration derives from harnessing, first, a sense of belonging and, second, social interactions as two interrelated processes of encounter. To the extent that the host develops a sense of belonging with the newcomers and cultivates social interaction with them as the others, the newcomers would become visible and encounters followed by meaningful interactions with them would be possible. To look at this from another perspective, the newcomers develop a sense of belonging with their hosts as they encounter them and engage in social interactions with them in their everyday. We note that there is ample research that takes a critical stance on integration and inclusion already but there is still space to explore encounters and interactions in greater detail and why they matter for newcomers and host societies to establish intimacies with each other.

Opis:
The process of steel solidification in the CCS mould is accompanied by a number of phenomena relating to the formation of non-metallic phase, as well as the mechanism of its interaction with the existing precipitations and the advancing crystallization front. In the solidification process the non-metallic inclusions may be absorbed or repelled by the moving front. As a result a specific distribution of non-metallic inclusions is obtained in the solidified ingot, and their distribution is a consequence of these processes. The interaction of a non-metallic inclusion with the solidification front was analyzed for alumina, for different values of the particle radius. The simulation was performed with the use of own computer program. Each time a balance of forces acting on a particle in its specific position was calculated. On this basis the change of position of alumina particle in relation to the front was defined for a specific radius and original location of the particle with respect to the front.

Opis:
In this study, the effect of calcium treatment on the mechanical properties and fatigue behavior of low carbon steel material is investigated. By applying calcium treatment after aluminum deoxidation for steel cleanliness, the aim is to transform the inclusions into harmless structures and produce cleaner liquid steel. As a result of the study, calcium treated material’s tensile strength slightly increases while fatigue life decreases. SEM studies were conducted to evaluate the results and it was observed that while elongated inclusions were observed as well as spherical shapes in the untreated sample, the inclusions generally had a spherical shape in the calcium treated sample. After the steel cleanliness process, the mechanical properties of the samples were improved. The tensile strength of the calcium treated sample increased slightly. However, a significant decrease in fatigue strength was observed depending on brittle inclusions that occur as a result of the calcium treatment process.

Opis:
The removal of non-metallic inclusions from liquid steel is a result of co-operation of fluctuation, adhesion and agglomeration effects, with emphasis on agglomeration which plays the most important role. It is based on a few types of collisions between non-metallic particles, where turbulent collisions are most prominent. As a result of agglomeration, nonmetallic inclusions are intensely removed through flotation and increase of different dimensions of inclusions, which manifests itself with the occurrence of clusters mainly composed of Al2O3 precipitations. Authors investigated the agglomeration effect by making computer simulations with the use of the PSG method. The calculations were performed for a definite population of spherical particles of radius r in the steel volume. The applied calculation method allows for analyzing the dynamics of the collision process. The assumed initial number of particles remains constant, only the number of particles in specific size-groups varies. It was also revealed that the process of agglomerates formation is much faster for particles having a bigger initial radius. In the case of very small precipitations (r=1 μm) their removal through agglomeration is very difficult because the probability those collisions can take place between them rapidly decreases.

Opis:
The paper is dedicated to analysis the inclusion behavior in steel using theoretical calculation and simulation of water. The aim is to establish collision and absorption model of inclusions on refractory. The article discusses the variation of critical stay speed and critical shear with the radius of inclusions in the process of colliding, rebounding and absorbing. The results show the critical stay speed and critical shear of alumina respectively surpasses 1 cm·s-1 and 1 N·m-2, while titanium dioxide separately exceeds 4 cm·s-1 and 10 N·m-2 for the inclusions that radius is less than 2.5 μm. If the inclusions occur rebound after colliding, the inclusions that radius is less than 7 μm will still be absorbed by the surface, while the inclusions that radius is more than 10 μm can easily reenter the steel. The model coincides with the water simulation results and it is of good adaptability.

Opis:
The structure near the interface of bimetallic strips strongly influences their properties. In this work, the interfacial layers of explosively welded aluminium and copper plates were investigated by means of a scanning electron microscope (SEM), equipped with a high resolution system for local orientation measurements (SEMFEG/EBSD), and a transmission electron microscope (TEM), equipped with energy dispersive spectrometry (EDX) for the analysis of chemical composition changes. The SEMFEG/EBSD-based local orientation measurements in the areas close to the interface, in both sheets, revealed fine-grained layers characterized by the clearly marked tendency of the copper-type rolling texture formation. The texture was described by an increased density of the orientations near the f112g<111>, f123g<634>and f110g<112>positions. The internal microstructure of the intermetallic inclusion is mostly composed of dendrites. The electron diffractions and the TEM/EDX chemical composition measurements in the intermetallic inclusions revealed only crystalline phases, both equilibrium and 'metastable'. Additionally, no significant regularity in the phase distribution with respect to the parent sheets was observed.
Mikrostruktura w pobliżu strefy połączenia silnie wpływa na własności układów bimetalowych. W niniejszej pracy analizie poddano układy warstwowe Al/Cu wytworzone technologia zgrzewania wybuchowego. Badania prowadzono z wykorzystaniem skaningowej mikroskopii elektronowej wyposażonej w wysokorozdzielczy system pomiaru orientacji lokalnych oraz transmisyjnej mikroskopii elektronowej wyposażonej w analizator składu chemicznego.

Opis:
This article looks at metaphor aptness from the perspective of the class-inclusion model of metaphor comprehension and those models that assume a componential nature for the meanings of concepts. When the metaphor X is a Y is processed, the concept of X is included in a metaphorical class that is represented by Y, which is usually the most typical member of the metaphorical class. Degree of saliency of the defining feature in the vehicle and the extent to which this feature matches a relevant dimension of topic is the key factor in the degree of aptness of the metaphor. Degree of aptness becomes more complex in those metaphors that describe an abstract concept in terms of another concept. These metaphors include X into a metaphorical class through the mediation of those concepts that are associated to the abstract concept. If the associated concepts have a high degree of typicality in the metaphorical class, they could be better mediators for including the abstract concept into the metaphorical class. The variations of abstract concepts across individuals and their dependency on contexts and cultures could explain why such metaphors may have different degrees of aptness for different people.

Ti-containing steel weld metals with Al contents of 0.01-0.085% were prepared. The effects of Al contents on the inclusions evolution were investigated by means of thermodynamic calculations coupled with electron probe micro-analyses and transmission electron microscopy. The results show that the inclusions in the 0.01% Al weld metal are mainly composed of ilmenite withsome amounts of (Mn-Si-Al)-oxide and titanial_spinel. When Al content is increased up to 0.035%, a more amount of corundum and a small amount of pseudobrookite are formed. In 0.085% Al weld metal, the (Mn-Si-Al)-oxide disappears completely, and the inclusions contain a substantial amount of corundum, in addition to a minimal amount of pseudobrookite. Ti3O5, MnTi2O4 and MnTiO3 are the primary constituents of pseudobrookite, titanial_spinel and ilmenite, respectively. Titanial_spinel and ilmenite have higher amounts of Mn, but lower Ti levels compared with pseudobrookite. In the case of presence of a considerable amountsof titanial_spinel and ilmenite, Mn-depleted zone is formed in matrix around the inclusions.
