Opis:
The purpose of this work was to the application of Si oxide coatings. This study deals with the preparation of ceria (CeO2) nanoparticles coating with SiO2 by water glass and hydrolysis reaction. First, the low temperature hydro-reactions were carried out at 30~100°C. Second, Silicon oxide-coated Nano compounds were obtained by the catalyzing synthesis. CeO2 Nano-powders have been successfully synthesized by means of the hydrothermal method, in a low temperature range of 100~200°C. In order to investigate the structure and morphology of the Nano-powders, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were employed. The XRD results revealed the amorphous nature of silica nanoparticles. To analyze the quantity and properties of the compounds coated with Si oxide, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) in conjunction with electron dispersive spectroscopy was used. Finally, it is suggested that the simple growth process is more favorable mechanism than the solution/aggregation process.

Every new car should be equipped with the catalyst, which limits the amount of harmful chemical compounds such as NOx, CH and CO emitted to the air. Auto catalyst consists of the ceramic or metallic carrier, on which is the layer with Platinum Group Metals playing catalytic role. There are many methods using for recovery those valuable metals from spent auto catalyst, however evry of those methods have some limitations. Proces described in the article is the modified method of metal collector, which used magnetohydrodynamic pump. Rotary electromagnetic field generates in the liquid metal rotary current, which as a consequence washing out the PGM metals from the ceramic carriers. Considering the possibilities of commercialization of the described method, the energy balance was made. From that balance the energetic efficiency of the unit was determined and the analysis of the temperature distribution was shown thermographycally.

In order to research the losses and heat of damper bars thoroughly, a multislice moving electromagnetic field-circuit coupling FE model of tubular hydro-generator and a 3D temperature field FE model of the rotor are built respectively. The factors such as rotor motion and non-linearity of the time-varying electromagnetic field, the stator slots skew, the anisotropic heat conduction of the rotor core lamination and different heat dissipation conditions on the windward and lee side of the poles are considered. Furthermore, according to the different operating conditions, different rotor structures and materials, compositive calculations about the losses and temperatures of the damper bars of a 36 MW generator are carried out, and the data are compared with the test. The results show that the computation precision is satisfied and the generator design is reasonable.

Opis:
The paper presents a hybrid (hydro-numerical) circulatory model built to be used as a complementary tool for clinical purposes. It was developed at the Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering - Polish Academy of Sciences (Poland) in co-operation with the Institute of Clinical Physiology - National Council of Research (Italy). Main advantages of the model are: 1) high accuracy and repeatability of parameters setting, characteristic of numerical solutions, 2) maximum flexibility achieved by implementing the largest possible number of the model’s elements in the numerical way, 3) ability to test mechanical heart assist devices provided by special computer applications; in the model two physically different signal environments - numerical and hydraulic - are connected by special impedance transformers interfacing physical and numerical parts of the model; 4) eliminating flowmeters, as the voltage controlled flow sources embedded in the system provide information on flows. In vitro tests were performed to evaluate the circulatory model: a) modelling and simulation of physiological and pathological states parameters vs. left ventricular end-systolic elastance (Emax l) and rest volume (Vol) variations, b) testing the effect of LVAD counterpulsation on circulatory hemodynamics and ventricular energetics; it resulted in the increase of total cardiac output (COLV tot) from pathological value 3.8 to 5.4 l·min−1, mean aortic pressure mPas from 67.8 to 96.1 mmHg and in the decrease of left atrial pressure mPla from 15.7 to 7.7 mmHg and External Work nEW by 37.5%. The model was verified based on literature data.

Mechanics of multiphase porous media and damage mechanics are applied for this purpose, and kinetics of degradation processes is described with evolution equations based on thermodynamics of chemical reactions. The mass-, energy - and momentum balances, as well as the evolution equations, constitutive and physical relations are briefly summarized. Then, the model governing equations are numerically solved with the finite element method. Three examples of the model application for analyzing degradation processes of building materials are presented and discussed. The first one deals with capillary suction of the salt solution by two different building materials, the second one with the salt crystallization during drying of a brick wall, and the third one concerns calcium leaching from a concrete wall due to the chemical attack of pure water under pressure gradient at two different temperatures.

Opis:
Hydroacoustic projectors are useful for generating low frequency sounds in water. Existing works on hydroacoustic projectors require two significant enhancements, especially for designers. First, we need to understand the influence of important projector design parameters on its performance. Such insights can be very useful in developing a compact and efficient projector. Second, there is a need for an integrated model of the projector based on easily available and user-friendly numerical tools which do not require development of complex customised mathematical analogs of projector components. The present work addresses both such needs. Towards these goals, an experimentally validated, easy-to-build projector model was developed and used to conduct design sensitivity studies. We show that reductions in pipe compliance and air content in oil, and an increase in orifice discharge coefficient can yield remarkable improvements in projector’s SPL. We also show that reductions in pipe length and cylinder diameter cause moderate improvements in performance in mass and stiffness controlled regions, respectively. In contrast, the projector performance is insensitive to changes in pistonic mass, cylinder length, and diaphragm stiffness. Finally, we report that while pipe compliance and air content in oil can sharply alter system resonance, the effects of changes in pipe length and pistonic mass on it are moderate in nature.

Opis:
The Small Hydro Power Plants allow to increase the energy amount from renewable sources, especially from small rivers in mountainous areas. This paper presents a new concept of a energy conversion system for application in a Small Hydropower Plant (SHP) which is based on a permanent magnet generator (PM generator) with a propeller turbine integrated with the generator rotor. The PM generator can work at a variable speed and therefore energy produced by the PM generator has to be converted by means of a power electronic unit to fit to the three-phase power grid parameters. For this concept, dimensions and parameters of the PM generator were specially designed on account of integration with water turbine. The paper precisely describes elements of energy conversion system and also presents the results of numerical tests for chosen working conditions. An original algorithm of control strategy for power electronic unit was used to adjust generated energy to the required parameters of the three-phase grid.

Opis:
The article presents the possibility of using geophysical surveys to assess the stability of Carpathian slopes built of flysch deposits susceptible to mass movements. Landslide slopes located in the coastal zone of artificial water reservoirs are particularly susceptible to the loss of stability due to the erosion of this zone and the changing water level in the reservoir. Geophysical surveys of landslides carried out as a part of the research programs: PR-7 carried out by IMGW in 1972-1980 and SOPO carried out by PGI in 2009-2016 made it possible to develop a methodology of geophysical surveys enabling the determination of the geometry (course of the slip surface and range levels) of the existing landslides, information necessary to carry out a computational analysis of their stability. Examples of geometry of landslides in the coastal zone of the Czorsztyn reservoir and landslides in the area of hydrotechnical drifts of the Swinna-Poreba dam were presented. The possibility of a quantitative evaluation of the stability of the Carpathian slopes was also proposed on the basis of the SMR (Slope Mass Rating) proposed by M. Romana, using the KFG (Klasyfikacja Fliszu-Geofizyczna) geophysical classification equivalent to the RMR (Rock Mass Rating) classification by Z.T. Bieniawski for the assessment of the massif. A dozen or so active landslides were compiled for which the stability was determined using the SMR method.
Bieniawskiego. Zestawiono kilkanaście czynnych osuwisk, dla których określono stateczność metodą SMR.

Opis:
In most cases of diseased heart valves, they can be repaired or replaced with biological or mechanical prostheses. Biological prostheses seem to be safer than mechanical ones and are applied with good clinical outcomes. Their disadvantage, when compared with mechanical valves, is durability. In the development and application of mechanical and biological heart valves, a significant role can be played by a Hybrid (Hydro-Numerical) Circulatory Model. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the opportunities created by the hybrid model for investigations of mechanical heart valves and their computer models under conditions similar to those of the circulatory system. A diode-resistor numerical valve model and three different design mechanical aortic valves were tested. To perform their investigations, computer applications were developed under RT LabView to be run on a PC. Static and dynamic characteristics of the valves were measured and registered - pressure in the numerical time-varying elastance left ventricle (pLV), in the aorta (pas) and flow (f), proving, among other factors, that 1) time delay of pas with respect to pLV is mainly related to the valve’s opening time, and 2) the valves of substantially different designs tested under identical hydrodynamic conditions reveal nearly the same dynamic performance.
