    This article focuses upon the evolution of an ideologically dominated linguistic feminism to the application of gender-sensitive language in contemporary German. Three linguistic strategies – distinction, neutralization, graphostylistic disturbance – with corresponding linguistic forms will be examined in two German university guidelines, intending to reveal which ones are considered as pragmatically acceptable in communicative practice.

    The author analyzes attitudes to the phenomenon of sexuality on the basis of two theoretical perspectives, the evolutionary and the feminist, between which there has long been conflict. In his opinion, however, they are only seemingly contrary. The main texts of both trends of thought concern entirely different problems and at the substantive level there is basically no contradiction between them. It is important that evolutionary theory often undermines existing cultural schemas, although this is rarely perceived by proponents of feminist theories. Evolutionists, in turn, rather too often identify feminism with radical social constructivism. Another extreme is a view that could be described as evolutionary sexism, consisting in justifying the gender status quo by reference to biological essentialism. After elimination of the extreme approaches, which are rare in any case, it is possible to use the results of evolutionary research in the debate over gender equality and to transform the two monologues into a cohesive dialogue; this, in the author’s opinion, is an important task for empirically oriented social theory

    The paper analyzes various possible linguistic norms that could govern the feminine forms, which slowly appear in the Polish language, and which correspond to the masculine names of professions. Adopting a basically feminist standpoint leads one to reject those proposals, which would legislate that the masculine forms ought to be applied to men while the feminine forms ought to be applied to women. The article considers in particular the inferential roles of concepts to argue for a gender-neutral rendition of the historically masculine forms.

    W artykule przedstawiono ideę bezwarunkowego dochodu podstawowego w uję ciu Carole Pateman. Jej stanowisko zostało porównane z koncepcją dochodu podstawowego Bru- ce'a Akcermana/Anne Alstott oraz Philippe Van Parijsa. Artykuł rekonstruuje argumenty Pateman, które dowodzą przewagi jej stanowiska. Konkurencyjne koncepcje dochodu podstawowego charakteryzują się brakiem konsekwencji wywodu oraz krótkowzrocznością w odniesieniu do tematu feminizmu. Novum koncepcji Pateman polega na powią zaniu dochodu podstawowego z procesem demokratyzacji oraz emancypacją kobiet (demokratyzacja powinna dotyczyć również sfery gospodarstwa domowego). W artykule zostało również omówione zagadnienie free riders oraz kontynuacja myśli Pateman dokonana przez Michaela Goodharta.
    The article presents an idea of unconditional basic income as proposed by Carole Pateman. Her viewpoint has been compared to the concept of basic income of Bruce Akcerman/Anne Alstott and Philippe Van Parijs. The article reconstructs Pateman's arguments which prove the superiority of her stance. Competitive concepts (of basic income) are characterised by the lack of reasoning consistency and short-sightedness in relation to the topic of feminism. The novelty of Pateman's idea consists in establishing the connection between the basic income and the process of democratisation and emancipation of women (democratisation should also concern the sphere of a household). The article also discusses the issue of free riders and the continuation of Pateman's thoughts by Michael Goodhart.

    After World War II, sexology developed in Poland as a holistic discipline embracing achievements in medicine, psychology, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, history, and religious studies. Sexuality was perceived as multidimensional and embedded in relationships, culture, the economy, and society at large. This approach was fundamentally different than the biomedical model, which started to develop rapidly in the United States after Masters and Johnson’s Human Sexual Response. The author discusses the impact of the two different models of sexology on the understanding of gender, while also considering the influence of economic and political factors (capitalism and socialism) on the development of scientific knowledge

    The aim of the paper is to assess the feminist potential of political liberalism, as the latter was defined by Charles Larmore and John Rawls. The analysis focuses on liberal feminism to determine whether it would be more convincing if it became politico-liberal feminism. This problem is addressed with reference to two authors – Martha C. Nussbaum and Susan Moller Okin – the former being an advocate and the latter a critic of the liberal feminism and political liberalism merger. It is argued that Okin’s worries about this combination are justified. However, the conclusion is that Okin’s criticism emphasises the necessity and possibility of the revision of political liberalism – as a possible background of liberal feminism and a general orientation in political philosophy.

    Artykuł podejmuje próbę oceny potencjału administracji samorządowej jako partnerki ruchu kobiecego i innych ruchów emancypacyjnych w Polsce, w promowaniu zmian społecznych na rzecz równości. Opracowanie wykorzystuje ramy teoretyczne związane z pojęciem państwowego feminizmu oraz polityk równościowych. Opiera się na wynikach badań nad stopniem instytucjonalizacji idei równego traktowania w ramach działań administracji samorządowej. Artykuł składa się z czterech głównych części. Pierwsza problematyzuje państwo w kontekście aktualnych postulatów ruchów emancypacyjnych w Polsce oraz obowiązujących ram prawnych. Druga określa obecny dorobek polskich gender studies związany z tym tematem i zaznacza teoretyczne punkty odniesienia dla badań empirycznych zaprezentowanych w części trzeciej. Ostatni fragment to dyskusja wyników przeprowadzona w kontekście aktualnych wyzwań stojących przed ruchami społecznymi, które podnoszą postulaty walki z dyskryminacją i wykluczeniem w Polsce.
    The article aims at evaluating the capabilities of local government as a partner of women’s and emancipation movements in Poland in promoting social changes in favour of greater equality. The paper employs theoretical framework of state feminism and gender equality politics. It is based on the research findings concerning the extent to which local government administration embraees the idea of equal treatment. The article consists of fours parts. The first one conceptualizes state with the reference to the present claims of emancipation movements in Poland and legal framework. The second part defines Polish gender studies’ achievements related to the topic. It also sets the theoretical background for the empirical research presented in the third part. The last section discusses the findings in the context of current challenges faced by social movements fighting discrimination and exclusion in Poland.

    Robert Michels (1876–1936) considered himself to be a disillusioned socialist, who, under the influence of elitism, rejected democracy and moved into the fascist camp. As a figure in sociology he is associated solely with the “iron law of oligarchy.” In Poland, it is a little-known fact that in Western social thought he is viewed as a socially engaged sociologist—a “genuine” researcher gifted with sociological imagination and a passion for scholarship. The aim of the author is to present Michels as a scholar in many areas: feminist issues, local patriotism in the context of national citizenship, phenomena of a general sociological nature, the history of Italy, and social movements. Furthermore, the author illustrates the German writer Timm Genett’s thesis that Michels should also be valued as a pioneer in the study of social movements, which he consistently examined in his analyses of organizations, systematically investigating the degeneration of social movements and the shifting of organizational aims.

    This paper addresses issues of feminism, masculinity, and the emotional culture of middle-class men who self-declare as feminists. The author discusses feminist theories on masculinity and its relations with femininity, critical theories of masculinity, and the role of emotional culture in the expression of masculinity. Feminists have proposed a dimorphic definition of feminism as a political movement and personal attitude critical of masculine domination. The critique of patriarchal, hegemonic masculinity has led feminists either to identify with “positive” masculinity or to reject masculinity for a post-gender narrative or material-discursive fact of “being a man,” which suggests an inadequacy of the sex/gender distinction in the description of gender identity. The identification with feminism allows men to avoid the crisis of traditional masculinity and the perspective of gendered emotions, as well as to gain insight into gendered determinants of emotional expression.

    Since the beginning of the 1990s, there has been a growth in the number of woman at soccer stadiums. These women are supporters not only of the national teams but also of local clubs. Although the stadium socialization of women, in which their identity is shaped through their connection with a club and integration in the fan community, is not a new phenomenon, particularly in western European countries, it has not yet been thoroughly studied, including in terms of women’s separate social roles. The authors’ aim is to present the broader context for the appearance of women in stadiums, with selected aspects of women’s fandom as described by western scholars. The authors also discuss what is known at present on the subject in Poland. This is not an exhaustive and multidimensional analysis, but only a signaling of certain interesting analytical categories; thus the ideas contained in the article are primarily of an exploratory nature, though based on empirical data.
