Maritime freight transport represents an effective solution, allowing to ensure a low-impact service both under an economic and a sustainable perspective. As a consequence, in the last ten years, an increasing trend of goods transported by sea has been observed. In order to improve the terminal containers’ performance, recently published scientific studies shown the applicability of the ‘lean logistic’ concept as a strategic key for ensuring a continuous improvement of the logistic chain for inter-/intra terminal containers’ activities. According to this approach, the adoption of a dry port can positively affect terminal containers’ performance, but this requires resources and investments due to inter-terminal activities (e.g. transport of the container from port to dry port and vice versa). The purpose of the study is to develop a mathematical programming optimization model to support the decision making in identifying the best containers’ handling strategy for intermodal facilities, according to lean and green perspectives. Numerical experiments shown the effectiveness of the model in identifying efficient material handling strategies under lean and green perspective.

Opis:
The right to safety of purchased goods is one of the most important consumer rights. Therefore, an accurate analysis of safety of machinery and equipment purchased on the secondary market is an extremely important issue. One of its elements should be the assessment of the degree of service live usage. In the case of cranes, the subject of such an assessment covers both the supporting structure of the device and its mechanisms and installations. Information on evaluation of the service life expiration of the secondhand cranes may be necessary and support the decision-making process associated with the purchase of the device. The paper deals with the problem of evaluating the expiration of the service life of the supporting structure of cranes coming from the secondhand market. The result of such evaluation makes it possible to determine whether the production capacity of a device has been exhausted. This forms the basis for the decisions on any possible further operation of the crane. The work presents an approach based on the provisions of standard ISO 12482: 2014. This document is the basis for service life evaluation for cranes. The approach presented in it makes the way of analysis dependent on the method used to collect operational data. In this paper the evaluation of service life expiration was prepared on the example of a ship to shore gantry cranes. These devices are characterized by particularly large dimensions and weight. Damage of their supporting structure can lead to the significant losses. Some of these devices change the location during operation. Therefore, it is important to know the current level of their service life usage. A case, in which the operational history of a device is not known, was considered. In the paper the special attention was paid to the methodology of estimating the load distribution coefficient. In order to describe the hypothetical load spectrum, triangular distribution was proposed. The results of the calculations for the structure of port cranes are presented and discussed.

The paper characterises a class of problems for packing boxes in the container. It presents the current state of knowledge in this area and distinguishes evolutionary algorithms, as the most promising in the search for quasi-optimal loading conditions. The method proposed in the paper focuses on certain criteria important from a practical point of view, which in a formalised manner have not been included so far in the solving-problems models. Apart from the traditional consideration of the problem of three-dimensional space loading maximisation, the proposed method considers the deviation of the loaded container weight centre from its symmetry planes and the availability of packages during unloading. New elements in the described method are: the applied criteria, penalty function, way of coding the container loading state in the evolutionary algorithm and fast crossover and mutations operators dedicated to the adopted coding. It was observed that the evolution in the developed algorithm occurs properly, that is seeking to minimise the criteria. The article also includes a calculation example showing the effect of the method with the discussion of the results indicating the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed solution. The performance of the algorithm has been considered in the context of time necessary to obtain the acceptable solution and quality of the obtained solution. It was found that the algorithm in its current form is a strong base for its further improvement.

This paper explores the concept of acqua in Italian on the basis of linguistic data coming from: the Corpus della Repubblica, the Dizionario Treccani, the Dizionario delle collocazioni (Tiberii 2012) and the Dizionario Combinatorio Compatto Italiano (Lo Cascio 2012). First, the following phrases in acqua, sull’acqua and per acqua have been analyzed using image schemas such as: container, surface and path. Second, three conceptual metaphors have been formulated after the analysis of specific metaphoric language in context drawn from the Corpus della Repubblica. The analyzed instances of metaphoric extensions of acqua (source – domain) allow for the understanding of target domains such as: DESTRUCTIVE FORCES, DANGERS and ENEMIES. On the one hand, the research has proven that image schemas structure perceptual experience and consequently the meaning of linguistic expressions such as: in acqua, sull’acqua and per acqua. On the other, it has revealed the importance of conceptual metaphor in shaping the comprehension of the concept of acqua in Italian.

Three types of heat treatment, sinteraustempering in 500°C, 400°C and 350°C; sinterhardening and sintering with cooling at the rate 10K/min) as the final operation, on steels sintered semi-closed container were investigated. Results of mechanical properties, microstructure investigations and fracture and EDX analyses are reported. The study involved two PM steels: DH-1 (Fe-2%Cu-1.5%Mo-0.5%C) and 34HNM (Fe-0.2%Mo-0.8%Mn-1.5%Cr-1.5Ni-0.4%C). Prealloyed Höganäs DH (Direct Hardening) iron powder and graphite powder (grade C-UF) were used to produce DH-1 steel. Prealloyed Astaloy CrL iron powder, low carbon ferromanganese, elemental nickel and graphite grade C-UF powder were the starting powders of 34HNM steel. Pressing was in rigid dies at 660MPa according to PN-EN ISO 2740 standard. After compaction, green compacts were sintered in a specially designed semi-closed container at 1120°C for 60 minutes in a nitrogen atmosphere. The chemical composition of the sintering atmosphere was modified by adding ferromanganese and/or activator into the container. All specimens were tested for tensile strength (UTS), elongation (A), yield offset strength (R0,2), TRS, apparent surface and cross section hardness (HV 30). The best combination of strength and plasticity for both steels was achieved after sinteraustempering at 500°C. The results show that, using the specially designed semi-closed container, sinteraustempering in N2 atmosphere offers the same or even better mechanical properties in comparison with sinteraustempering in vacuum. It means that sinteraustempering in N2 atmosphere is a very interesting process in terms of cost in comparison with vacuum sinteraustempering.
W pracy przedstawiono wpływ trzech typów obróbki cieplnej (sinteraustempering w temperaturze 500°C, 400°C oraz 350°C, sinterhardening oraz chłodzenie po spiekaniu z prędkością 10K/min) zastosowanej dla stali wytworzonych techniką metalurgii proszków. Badania obejmowały dwie stale: DH-1 (Fe-2%Cu-1.5%Mo-0.5%C) oraz 34HNM (Fe-0.2%Mo-0.8%Mn-1.5% Cr-1.5Ni-0.4%C). Do produkcji pierwszej stali posłużył stopowy proszek żelaza Höganäs DH (Direct Hardening). W skład mieszanki drugiej stali weszły m.in. proszek żelazomanganu, stopowy proszek Astaloy CrL oraz elementarny proszek niklu. Do obu mieszanek proszku węgiel dodano w postaci proszku grafitu C-UF. Wypraski zostały przygotowane zgodnie z normą PN-EN ISO 2740, zostały one sprasowane pod ciśnieniem 660 MPa. Spiekanie (temp. 1120°C, t = 60min) oraz późniejsze operacje obróbki cieplnej odbywały się w laboratoryjnym piecu rurowym w pół-hermetycznym pojemniku z dodatkiem żelazomanganu w atmosferze azotu. Spieki poddano badaniom własności mechanicznych, badaniom mikrostruktury i faktograficznym oraz analizie EDX. W skład badań własności mechanicznych weszły: próba wytrzymałości na rozciąganie, próba odporności na trójpunktowe zginanie oraz badania twardości. Dodatkowo wyliczono wartości wydłużenia oraz umownej granicy plastyczności. Najlepszą kombinację własności wytrzymałościowych i plastycznych dla obu stali wykazano po obróbce sinteraustempering w temperaturze 500°C. Wyniki wskazują, że zastosowanie pół-hermetycznego pojemnika przy operacji sinteraustempering, z wykorzystaniem atmosfery N2, pozwala na uzyskanie takich samych, bądź lepszych własności mechanicznych w porównaniu do operacji sinterhardening w próżni. Pozwala to na stwierdzenie, iż sinteraustempering w atmosferze azotu okazuje się być konkurencyjnym procesem w stosunku do procesu sinterhardening w piecu próżniowym.

The presented paper is concerned with the problems of assessing the risk level for service chain of refrigerated containers in seaports. This issue has been examined with regard to the losses related to the loss of cargo’s qualitative values. The paper identifies the links in the service chain as well as related hazards and events resulting in losses. The term “chain” has been defined for the refrigerated container service chain. Material losses generated by the loss of cargo’s qualitative values have also been examined. The paper suggests and justifies functional and numeric risk measures. With regard to the examined process the study presents the elements of loss modelling methodology. The risk level has been evaluated using selected calculation examples, considering the impact of the probability of events resulting in losses.

The article presents the issue of container handling processes at a rail-road intermodal terminal. In the article, we have focused on the problem of a terminal layout design from the point of view of parking lots for external trucks. The main purpose of this article is the assessment of the necessary parking lots for the trucks considering daily turnover of containers and the trucks appointment time windows. We analyze how the length of the truck’s appointment time windows as well as the difficulties in containers loading operations and a number of handling equipment influence the necessary parking lots for trucks in the intermodal terminal. The trucks planned for loading of import containers may arrive at the terminal before the loading moment that is specified in crane operations schedule. The container handling time is given by a probability distribution. The equations defining the most important elements of the considered problem were presented in the general form. The special case of this model has been developed in the FlexSim simulation software. Based on the simulation research and calculations we pointed out that right truck’s appointment time windows can significantly reduce necessary parking lots at the yard. The literature analysis presented in the article indicates that most of the research in the field of intermodal terminal is focused on operations in container ports. There is lack of literature considering rail-road terminal layout planning in terms of the necessary parking lots and truck’s appointment time windows.
W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienie procesów obsługi kontenerów w kolejowo-drogowym terminalu intermodalnym. W artykule skupiono się na problemie projektowania układu terminali z punktu widzenia niezbędnych parkingów dla pojazdów ciężarowych dowożących/odwożących kontenery do/z terminala. Głównym celem artykułu jest wyznaczenie niezbędnej liczby miejsc parkingowych dla ciężarówek, biorąc pod uwagę dzienny obrót kontenerów, a także okna czasowe awizacji pojazdów ciężarowych. Analizowano, w jaki sposób szerokość okien czasowych awizacji pojazdów ciężarowych a także trudności w operacjach załadunku kontenerów i liczba urządzeń przeładunkowych wpłyną na niezbędną liczbę miejsc parkingowych dla pojazdów ciężarowych na placu terminala intermodalnego. Założono, że ciężarówki planowane do załadunku kontenerów importowych mogą przybyć do terminalu przed momentem załadunku określonym w harmonogramie pracy suwnicy. Założono również, że czas przeładunku kontenera wynika z rozkładu prawdopodobieństwa. Równania definiujące najważniejsze elementy rozważanego problemu zostały przedstawione w formie ogólnej. Badane problem zamodelowano w narzędziu symulacyjnym FlexSim. Na podstawie badań symulacyjnych i przedstawionych obliczeń wskazano, że właściwe ustalenie okien czasowych awizacji pojazdów ciężarowych może znacznie zmniejszyć liczbę potrzebnych miejsc parkingowych na terminalu. Analiza literatury przedstawiona w artykule wskazuje, że większość badań w obszarze terminali intermodalnych koncentruje się na optymalizacji operacji w portach kontenerowych. Brakuje literatury na temat układu terminali intermodalnych z punktu widzenia liczby niezbędnych miejsc parkingowych dla pojazdów ciężarowych.

The article presents the issues of a container train loading at the land intermodal terminal. This issue was considered from the point of view of the distance covered by the loading devices and the duration of loading works, which was influenced by the arrangement of containers on the storage yard and the configuration of pins on the wagons. The conducted research was dictated by the small number of publications on loading an intermodal train, especially from the point of view of pin configuration on wagons. The vast majority of the literature is devoted in this field to marine intermodal terminals, which operating characteristics are different from inland terminals. The importance of this problem resulting from the growing turnover of containers transported by rail transport was also pointed out. The systematic increase of this type of transport and the depletion of the intermodal services' operating capability makes it necessary to improve the train loading process. For the purposes of the research, the issues of containers of various sizes loading onto wagons planning with various pin configurations were presented. A literature review was carried out in the field of train loading methods and strategies. A mathematical model was developed for the decision situation under consideration. The equations defining the most important elements of the considered problem were presented in the general form. This model was implemented in the FlexSim simulation environment. The constructed simulation model was used to develop 12 variants of the approach to an intermodal train loading. The train loading tests were performed both for the random arrangement of containers on the storage yard and for the random arrangement of pins on the wagons. The obtained results made it possible to determine how the knowledge of the arrangement of pins on the wagons influences the planning of train loading and increases the efficiency of loading devices.

This paper examines one of the most important operational problems in seaport terminals, namely the Berth Allocation Problem (BAP) which finds an optimal assignment of ships to the berths that minimize the total waiting time of all ships and reduce congestion in ports. Our problem is to affect and schedule n ships on m berths to minimize the processing time and the waiting time for all the ships in the port. Therefore, ships stay time in the port known by the flow time, while respecting the physical constraints existing at the port (such as the depth of the water berth and the draft of the ship’s water), knowing that each ship can only accommodate one ship at a time. It is as if it was a case of n tasks and m machines in parallel, and we wanted to schedule the passage of different tasks on different machines, knowing that each task can only pass on one machine and that the interruption of the task is not allowed. For example, if a job started on a machine, it will remain on this machine up to its completion. In our case, tasks are ships and machines are berths that are opting to minimize the total flow time and, therefore, to decrease the residence time of all the ships in the port. In a first step, a Mixed Integer Linear Program model is designed to address the BAP with the aim of minimizing the flow time of the ships in the port, our sample can be used for both static and dynamic berth allocation cases. In a second step, this model is illustrated with a real case study in the Tunisian port of Rades and solved by a commercial solver CPLEX. Calculation results are presented and compared with those obtained by port authorities in Radès.
