Opis:
The aim of the paper is to present the results of experimental research conducted on two helical coil biomass boilers with oil heatingagent, which are acentral unitsof co generative micro powerplant designed and built in IFFM in Gdańsk. Experimental data served as a source for defining the interdependencies governing the dynamics of the micro-CHP as a whole. Furthermore, during the research the authors came across a few possible modifications to the construction that may yet improve the device.

Opis:
The paper presents the experimental investigation carried out in order to identify bearing dynamic coefficients of two hydrodynamic bearings from impulse responses. In this method the stiffness, damping and mass coefficients of two hydrodynamic bearings were calculated in a single algorithm. For each rotational speed, were obtained 12 dynamic coefficients which enable to fully describe the dynamic state of the rotor. Exciting force signals, applied using an impact hammer were shown. Displacements of the shaft were measured by eddy current sensors. The measurements were carried out at various rotational speeds, including resonance speeds. The vibration amplitude in a resonance case increases significantly with time after the excitation was induced by an impact hammer. Excitations of the rotor with an impact hammer were recorded using a high-speed camera. These unique recordings and simultaneous analysis of the trajectory of the bearing journals depict the contact phenomena that occur during impulse excitation of the rotor.

Opis:
The paper describes the general concept of using the rapid prototyping methods and their application tomanufacturing of selected components of rotating machinery. Chosen rapid prototyping technology (multijet printing) allows precise manufacture of rotor models with complex geometry, without the need for their further processing. The research is planned to be performed on designed test rig, which is described in the paper. 3D printed elements will be pretested using air from a high performance compressor. Basic preliminary testing and own experience has shown that this technology is faster, cheaper and more accurate than conventional manufacturing. This fact can significantly contribute to the development of production and research of prototypical fluid-flow machines. The tensile strength testing of the two materials which are used in a 3D printer in different printing directions has been also discussed.

Opis:
The paper presents the research on the effect of elevated temperature on the dynamic performance of a rotor supported by foil bearings. The tests were carried out on the test rig equipped with a module for increasing temperature around the bearings. A 3 kW motor with two ceramic ball bearings was connected to the shaft by means of a flexible coupling. The shaft was supported by gas foil bearings. The maximum rotational speed of the rotor was 24000 rpm. The tests were performed with the operating rotor, covering multiple start and stop cycles at room and elevated temperatures. During the first stage of experimental investigation vibration, displacement and temperature values for the two bearings were recorded. Then, the temperature was raised to approx. 200 ◦C within one of the bearing supports. The parameters mentioned above were registered and compared with the results obtained during room temperature operation. After each test bearings were disassembled, regenerated as necessary and reassembled. After analysis of the results achieved, it could be noted that the system was sensitive to the altering of operating conditions of the rotor. The elevated temperature around the shaft has increased its diameter, thereby reducing the lubricating gap. In spite of adverse operating conditions affecting the rotor, the whole system operated in a safe and stable manner.

Opis:
The Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery (IMP PAN) in Gdansk pursues its own research in fields such as technologies that use renewable energy sources efficiently, including in particular the small-scale combined heat and power (CHP) systems. This article discusses the design concepts for the prototype of small CHP ORC (organic Rankine cycle) energy system, developed under the research project. The source of heat is a boiler designed for biomass combustion. Electricity was generated using specially designed oil-free vapour micro-turbine. The turbo-generator has compact structure and hermetical casing thanks to the use of gas bearings lubricated by working medium. All energy system components are controlled and continuously monitored by a coherent automation and control system. The article also discusses selected experimental results conducted under laboratory conditions. Thermal-flow tests were presented that allow for an assessment of the operation of energy system components. Additionally, energy performance results of the turbo-generator were given including power obtained at various cycle parameters. The achieved results have shown that the developed energy system operated in accordance with design solutions. Electricity derived from the energy system prototype was around 2 kW, with boiler’s thermal power of 25 kW. The research has also confirmed that this system can be used in a domestic environment.

Opis:
The article presents the research carried out on the circulating rotodynamic pump (peripheral pump) operating in the organic Rankine cycle with or without regeneration. The low-boiling solvent HFE7100 was used as the working fluid. Its boiling point is around 61 ◦C at atmospheric pressure. An expansion valve, which simulated the operation of an expansion machine, was used to load the tested pump. The flow characteristics were given for the working media: a solution of glycol and HFE7100 in the condenser, thermal oil and HFE7100 in the evaporator and HFE7100 in the regenerator. The research results concerning the PK70 pump operating in an ORC cycle are reported for the HFE7100 temperature range 15-60 ◦C and the dynamic viscosity range of 0.132 to 0.66 mPas. The maximum flow rate and pressure of the pump during its operation in the ORC system were assessed. The analysis of the results demonstrates that the maximum efficiencies of the pump operating with or without regeneration were 44% and slightly below 37%, respectively. The impact of the selected physicochemical parameters of the working mediums on the pressure drops occurring in the ORC cogeneration installation was discussed. Based on the research conducted and the measurement results, the possibility to apply a PK70 unit as a circulating pump for the working medium in an ORC cycle was checked.

The article discusses the problems related to the operation of various types of expansion devices used in small cogeneration systems. Both volumetric and dynamic expanders were considered, including scroll, screw, vane, piston and turbine expanders. For each of these solutions, principles of operation were explained as well as major advantages and disadvantages. The results of experimental research on several expanders of various types were also presented. The overview of expanders included in this paper, along with basic operational problems and functional characteristics, is the collection of valuable information facilitating selection of a suitable expander for specific applications. This is particularly important in the context of search for new energy sources and opportunities to improve the energy efficiency of available energy resources.

The paper presents the design process of a radial-axial turbine working with SES36 working fluid. First, the mean-line design process is performed and then the geometry is developed. In the next stage the numerical verification is performed taking into account the real properties of the working fluid. The properties are implemented via a look-up table and by a modified Benedict-Webb-Rubin equation of state. The presented turbine is characterized by a very small stator outflow angle which is about 4.5◦ but despite this small value, the efficiency of the machine is relatively high and equal to about 88%. The influence of internal leakages has also been investigated.
