    This paper presents studies carried out in a pilot-scale plant for recovery of waste heat from a flue gas which has been built in a lignite-fired power plant. The purpose of the studies was to check the operation of the heat recovery system in a pilot scale, while the purpose of the plant was recovery of waste heat from the flue gas in the form of hot water with a temperature of approx. 90 °C. The main part of the test rig was a condensing heat exchanger designed and built on the basis of laboratory tests conducted by the authors of this paper. Tests conducted on the pilot-scale plant concerned the thermal and flow parameters of the condensing heat exchanger as well as the impact of the volumetric flow rate of the flue gas and the cooling water on the heat flux recovered. Results show that the system with a condensing heat exchanger for recovery of low-temperature waste heat from the flue gas enables the recovery of much higher heat flux as compared with conventional systems without a condensing heat exchanger.

    Opis:
    This paper describes the state-of-the-art on the methods of waste heat recovery from flue gases in coal-fired power units. The different types of heat exchangers for recovery waste heat from the flue gases in the coal-fired plants were compared. The calculations use two mathematical models for calculations one is based on the balance mean values and the second one on the VDI model with the Colburn-Hagen method. The results of calculations for heat exchangers operating in the cross flow configuration, as well as with horizontal tubes or the multi-pass were compared.
    W pracy przedstawiono stan wiedzy w zakresie metod odzysku ciepła odpadowego ze spalin wylotowych w blokach energetycznych elektrowni węglowych. Porównano różne typy wymienników ciepła do odzysku ciepła odpadowego ze spalin w bloku energetycznym elektrowni węglowej. W obliczeniach wykorzystano dwa modele matematyczne bilansowy opierający się na uśrednionych wartościach cieplnych i przepływowych oraz model VDI Heat Atlas (VDI Wrmeatlas) [10] w połączeniu z metodą Colburna-Hagena. Wszystkie obliczenia wykonano z wykorzystaniem programu Mathcad. Przedstawiono wyniki obliczeń dla kondensacyjnych wymienników ciepła (z poziomym i krzyżowym układem rur chłodzących) oraz dla wielobiegowych bezkondesacyjnych wymienników ciepła.

    The tool was created to support the auxiliary clinical observation of the eyeballs movements in cases of different states of consciousness. It enables performing objective observation of the patient reaction to a given external light stimuli. The tool analyzes the coordination of the eyeballs movement with the position of the light stimuli. Images are obtained by camera equipped with infrared filters blocking all visible light with the cutoff light length 715 nm.

    The present study was carried out to investigate the protective effects of roots of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge on hypobaric hypoxia. Two extracts of S. miltiorrhiza (extract 1: ethanol : water - 50 : 50; extract 2: 96% ethanol) were used. The experiments were performed after 7 consecutive days of administration of the extracts (200 mg/kg b.w., intragastrically) to male Wistar rats. Next, after placing animals for 60 min in the controlled acute hypobaric hypoxia (500 mm Hg) the systolic arterial blood pressure (SAP) in conscious rats, bioelectric heart activity in unconscious rats and analysis of oxidative stress parameters in the blood of rats: malonyldialdehyde (MDA) and lipid peroxidase (LPO) concentration, activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) or glutathione peroxidase (GPX) were assayed. It was found out that the extract 1 augmented the lowering of SAP shown in hypoxia affected control rats. On the contrary the extract 2 reversed SAP to values obtained in control animals. Moreover, both extracts led to the normalization of hypoxia-induced tachycardia and levels of MDA, LPO and SOD. It seems that the above-mentioned effects are coupled with different active compounds content in the extracts, however more studies are needed to confirm this hypothesis.
