In this paper the Hydrogenation, Disproportionation, Desorption and Recombination (HDDR) route was tested, for the Nd-Fe-B master alloy, as a prospective procedure for recycling of sintered scrap neodymium magnets. The HDDR method is based on the hydrogen induced reversal phase transformation of Nd-Fe-B alloy: Nd2Fe14B + (2±x) H2 = 2NdH2±x + Fe2B + 12Fe. Microstructural observations (SEM), phase constitution studies (XRD) and measurement of magnetic properties (VSM) were done to investigate the HDDR transformation progress. It was observed that disproportionation reaction starts at the grain boundaries, where the Nd-rich phase is located. Average grain size was reduced and coercive material was produced as a result of the HDDR process. Obtained results are similar to literature data.

The paper presents an attempt to evaluate the impact of coal and coal mine methane cocombustion on the physics of the heat exchange in an 140 t/h pulverized-coal boiler through an analysis of 21 combinations of the boiler operating parameters – three different boiler loads (50, 75, and 100%) and seven values of the fired gas thermal contribution (0–60%). The obtained results are the temperature distribution of flue gas and steam in the boiler characteristic points, the heat transfer coefficient values for the boiler individual elements expressing the nature of changes in the heat transfer and the change in the boiler efficiency depending on how much gas is actually fired. An increase in the amount of co-fired gas involves a temperature increase along the flue gas path. This is the effect of the reduction in the amount of heat collected by the evaporator in the furnace. For these reason, the flue gas temperature at the furnace outlet rises by 9 K on average per a 0.1 increment in the fired gas thermal contribution. The temperature rise improves the heat transfer in the boiler heat exchangers – for the first- and the secondstage superheater the improvement totals 2.8% at a 10 pp. increase in the fired gas thermal contribution. However, the rise in the flue gas temperature at the boiler outlet involves a drop in the boiler efficiency (by 0.13 pp. for a rise in the fired gas thermal contribution by 0.1).

Opis:
Nowadays the demand for renewable energy sources is constantly growing. There are several reasons of such state, including requirements for energy-efficient new buildings and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. An exemplary solution that may help to reduce “traditional” primary energy consumption is local energy source utilization. The article presents a simplified feasibility study of hybrid energy system under Polish law and economic conditions for a self-government unit, that is legally obliged to apply means of energy efficiency improvement. The aim of this paper is to provide a simple algorithm to find optimal hybrid PV and wind power source sizing for a prosumer. Resource data used in analyses are imported from Photovoltaic Geographical Information System and cover a period of one year. The paper includes two different methodologies applied to solve the problem of optimal hybrid energy system sizing. The first approach is heuristic and based on monthly energy balancing while the second is iterative and takes into account hourly energy balance. The results from both methods are compared and verified by HomerPro software, that shows significant differences between two algorithms. At the end economic assessment based on Net Present Value method is performed.

Although the phenomenon of otoacoustic emission has been known for nearly 30 years, it has not been fully explained yet. One kind of otoacoustic emission is distortion product of the otoacoustic emission (DPOAE). New aspects of this phenomenon are constantly discovered and attempts are made to interpret correctly the obtained results. This paper discusses a new method of measuring DPOAE signals based on double phase-sensitive detection, which makes possible a real-time measurement of the DPOAE signal amplitude and phase. The method was applied for measurements of DPOAE signals in guinea pigs. Sample records are presented and the obtained results are discussed.

Współczesne szkolnictwo wyższe w naszym kraju stoi przed licznymi wyzwaniami zewnętrznymi, takimi jak niekorzystne procesy demograficzne obniżające liczbę studentów podejmujących studia, starzenie się populacji, itd. [Demograficzne… 2011; Migracje… 2013; Sytuacja… 2014; Grzelak- -Kostulska 2016]. Dlatego też, w myśl idei „Long Life Learning” ważne jest, aby wspierać dorosłych w ukończeniu edukacji uniwersyteckiej, podnoszeniu kwalifikacji czy wreszcie dokształcaniu się w wieku podeszłym [Chabior 2001; Krawczyk 2009]. W przypadku opracowania pojęcie uczących się przez całe życie zawężono do studentów, biorących udział w procesie uczenia się, który prowadzi do uznawanych oficjalnie kwalifikacji [por. Chaberek-Karwacka 2015; Deschacht, Goeman 2015]. Zazwyczaj ponowne przystąpienie tych studentów do formalnego systemu edukacji następuje po pewnym okresie przerwy w nauce. Dodatkowo ich zaangażowanie edukacyjne różni się znacznie od młodszych studentów ze względu na rodzinę i/lub obowiązki służbowe. To powoduje, że ważne jest, aby studia przebiegały w sposób jak najbardziej dostosowany do potrzeb tej grupy studentów.
Contemporary higher education in Poland is facing numerous challenges, such as population decline, the problem of the quality of university management, lack of skilled human resources, population aging, etc. Therefore, in accordance with the idea of Life Long Learning, it is important to support adults in their further education. It is essential that the learning process should be as convenient as possible. To facilitate education for extramural students, the Institute of Geography at the University of Gdańsk has introduced the system of blended learning. The aim of the paper is to present the results of a survey conducted among students and teaching and scientific staff of the Institute of Geography at the University of Gdańsk on the implementation of a curriculum based on the method of blended learning. Among the teachers, the idea had as many supporters as opponents. The benefits of this form of teaching, as indicated by both students and teachers, include saving time and facilitating education. Among disadvantages of e-learning, students enumerated technical problems, but above all, inconvenient hours of mandatory chats and problems with missed deadlines to submit their papers. In addition, teachers pointed out problems with assessing students’ work autonomy. The indicated problems probably arise from a lack of sufficient knowledge about e-learning methods.

Opis:
Group of steel balls with different chemical composition, diameters and nitriding treatment parameters were investigated with using magnetic resonance and magnetization methods. Emerging nitrided regions consists of diffusion and surface layer of iron nitrides. The thickness of the individual layers depends on the type of steel and process parameters. Resonance signal shape and position were successfully described in the ferromagnetic resonance regime expected for dense iron magnetic system. Influence of the sample size, thermal treatment and carbon content on the absorption signal has been analyzed. Significant magnetic anisotropy has been revealed, as well as non-usual increasing of the magnetization as a function of temperature. It suggests, that overall antiferromagnetic ordering, destroyed by thermal movement, lead to increasing of the ferromagnetic region.
