Opis:
This paper presents optimization results for a two-phase, modular transverse flux switched reluctance motor (TFSRM) with an outer rotor. In particular, the main disadvantage of the considered motor structure, that is the zero starting torque in some rotor positions, is eliminated by construction optimization. A numerical model of the motor developed in the Flux3D program is coupled with a Matlab-based evolutionary algorithm for optimization of construction parameters of the magnetic circuit. The elaboratem algorithm is also connected with a database to limit the computation costs. Three objective functions are taken into account for the motor integral parameter improvement. The fundamental role of a type of an optimization criterion function is comparatively analyzed and a new effective criterion function is introduced.

The paper presents results of analysis of the influence of rotor construction on the steady-state torque-speed characteristics of a high-speed eddy-current brake. The investigation is carried out using two- and three-dimensional finite element models and measurements. A series of computations is carried out in order to find out the method for performance improvement of the considered system.

Based on the Spartan 3E evaluation module, a flexible platform for the implementation of different algorithms for A/D conversion was developed. The aim of presented work was to improve the concept of the sampling rate adaptation to the input signal rate of change in terms of practical issues including synchronization of delta codecs. The new, original synchronization method, useful in systems dedicated for transmission of variable duration of bits was proposed and experimentally verified. Performed measures and observations have shown elimination of the synchronization lose phenomenon.

The low-frequency optical-signal phase noise induced by mechanical vibration of the base occurs in field-deployed fibers. Typical telecommunication data transfer is insensitive to this type of noise but the phenomenon may influence links dedicated to precise Time and Frequency (T&F) fiber-optic transfer that exploit the idea of stabilization of phase or propagation delay of the link. To measure effectiveness of suppression of acoustic noise in such a link, a dedicated measurement setup is necessary. The setup should enable to introduce a low-frequency phase corruption to the optical signal in a controllable way. In the paper, a concept of a setup in which the mechanically induced acoustic-band optical signal phase corruption is described and its own features and measured parameters are presented. Next, the experimental measurement results of the T&F transfer TFTS-2 system’s immunity as a function of the fibre-optic length vs. the acoustic-band noise are presented. Then, the dependency of the system immunity on the location of a noise source along the link is also pointed out.

W pracy przedstawiono metodę oceny skuteczności sferoidyzacji żeliwa za pomocą uproszczonego wzoru na uzysk magnezu. Metodę opracowano na podstawie kilkudziesięciu wytopów żeliwa. Otrzymane wyniki badań potwierdzono przy użyciu urządzenia do badania prędkości fali oraz na podstawie obserwacji zdjęć mikrostruktury. Ocenę sferoidyzacji badanych próbek przeprowadzono dla odlewów o średniej grubości ścianki 12 mm. W artykule podano również przedziały wyznaczone do oceny sferoidyzacji żeliwa w warunkach Odlewni, jak również schemat postępowania z odlewami po obróbce ciekłego metalu zaprawami FeSiMg.
The paper presents a method for evaluating the effectiveness of iron spheroidization using a simplified formula for the yield of magnesium. The method was developed on the basis of dozens of cast iron melts. Obtained results confirmed by a test device and on the velocity images by observing the microstructure. The evaluation of the test samples was performed spheroidization castings with an average wall thickness of 12 mm. The article also stated intervals to be evaluated in terms nodularisation iron foundry, as well as workflow with the cast after the treatment of liquid metal with FeSiMg.

Przedstawione w artykule zagadnienia dotykają problemu wad gazowych występujących w Odlewni Żeliwa. Obejmują one genezę nakłuć oraz pęcherzy zewnętrznych pojawiających się na odlewach z żeliwa EN-GJS-400-15. Pokazano w jaki sposób w warunkach przemysłowych odlewni dokonano analizy pochodzenia tych wad. Przedstawiono wyniki badań próbek pobranych z problematycznych odlewów oraz metody ich badań. Wskazano również w jaką niezbędną aparaturę pomiarową należy zaopatrzyć Odlewnię aby w przyszłości na etapie przygotowania procesu, można było prognozować i redukować występowanie nakłuć oraz pęcherzy zewnętrznych.
Presented paper concerns the issues of gas defects occurring during casting manufacturing in a foundry. These include the origin of pinholes and external bladders that appear on the external surface of EN-GJS-400-15 grade cast iron castings. The paper shows how, in industrial conditions, such defects are analyzed. Examinations results for samples taken from the problematic castings were shown together with applied methods description. It was also indicated, what kind of measuring equipment is necessary to predict and reduce the occurrence of gas defects in the future production.

A traditional frequency analysis is not appropriate for observation of properties of non-stationary signals. This stems from the fact that the time resolution is not defined in the Fourier spectrum. Thus, there is a need for methods implementing joint time-frequency analysis (t/f) algorithms. Practical aspects of some representative methods of time-frequency analysis, including Short Time Fourier Transform, Gabor Transform, Wigner-Ville Transform and Cone-Shaped Transform are described in this paper. Unfortunately, there is no correlation between the width of the time-frequency window and its frequency content in the t/f analysis. This property is not valid in the case of a wavelet transform. A wavelet is a wave-like oscillation, which forms its own “wavelet window”. Compression of the wavelet narrows the window, and vice versa. Individual wavelet functions are well localized in time and simultaneously in scale (the equivalent of frequency). The wavelet analysis owes its effectiveness to the pyramid algorithm described by Mallat, which enables fast decomposition of a signal into wavelet components.

In the last decade of the XX-th century, several academic centers have launched intensive research programs on the brain-computer interface (BCI). The current state of research allows to use certain properties of electromagnetic waves (brain activity) produced by brain neurons, measured using electroencephalographic techniques (EEG recording involves reading from electrodes attached to the scalp - the non-invasive method - or with electrodes implanted directly into the cerebral cortex - the invasive method). A BCI system reads the user's "intentions" by decoding certain features of the EEG signal. Those features are then classified and "translated" (on-line) into commands used to control a computer, prosthesis, wheelchair or other device. In this article, the authors try to show that the BCI is a typical example of a measurement and control unit.

In this article, we present a comprehensive measurement system to determine the level of user emotional arousal by the analysis of electrodermal activity (EDA). A number of EDA measurements were collected, while emotions were elicited using specially selected movie sequences. Data collected from 16 participants of the experiment, in conjunction with those from personal questionnaires, were used to determine a large number of 20 features of the EDA, to assess the emotional state of a user. Feature selection was performed using signal processing and analysis methods, while considering user declarations. The suitability of the designed system for detecting the level of emotional arousal was fully confirmed, throughout the number of experiments. The average classification accuracy for two classes of the least and the most stimulating movies varies within the range of 61‒72%.

This paper presents a system for locating the epileptogenic zone (EZ) using an automated analysis of electrocorticography (ECoG) signal recorded with 20 electrodes placed on the brain surface. The developed system enables automatic determination of places where anomalies connected with epilepsy are observed. The developed algorithm was tested on signals recorded for 33 patients who, after a prior neurological analysis, underwent the brain resection surgery. The results obtained with the algorithm were compared with those of medical analyses performed by the neurologist. The proposed system has a satisfactory accuracy – 87.8% – and can be used as a decision-supporting tool by the neurosurgeon during brain resection.

Mechatronics is nowadays a dominating concept in design of various kinds of systems and technical devices. High speeds of data processing by control units of mechatronic systems, as well as high dynamics of their actuators allow the systems to be applied in wider fields. This refers to the medicine as well, especially while making attempts to replace lost human motor abilities by means of robots aiding the man. These devices can be divided into three groups: exoskeletons designed to strengthen the natural force of human muscles, orthotic robots that restore lost or weakened functions of human limbs, and prosthetic robots replacing an amputated limb. The first and the third group are known quite well, whereas the orthotic robots are at an initial phase of their development. The authors have worked on a device for aiding the motion of disabled people suffering from paresis of the lower limbs. The paper presents a concept and a structure of the system that has been created, comparing it with similar devices that have already existed. There are indicated some connections and areas where the subunits merge, as well as the rules of their working with the user.
