Aspergillus niger FBT1, a local extracellular strain for tannase production, was isolated from soil collected from Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve in Perak, Malaysia. This fungus strain was cultivated in an Erlenmeyer flask under a submerged fermentation system. Medium compositions play a very important role in enhancing enzyme production during fermentation. The production of tannase by A. niger FBT1 increased significantly (95%) when the medium compositions and various process parameters were optimized. Incubation for 72 hours (30EC, pH 7) in medium complemented with sodium nitrate was found optimal. Additional supplementation with tannic acid (2% w/v) as the sole carbon source strongly increased the yield of the enzyme.

Opis:
Friction Stir Processing (FSP) is a novel solid state processing technique which can be used for microstructural modification of surface layers in metallic materials. This paper analyzes the effects of FSP process parameters on spindle torque acting on the tool and on the tool temperature. It has been shown that an increase in the rotational speed brings about a decrease in the torque and an increase of temperature. For temperature estimation in the stir zone a numerical model was applied, while for predicting a relationship between the spindle torque acting on the tool, rotational and travelling speeds and the down force, the artificial neural networks approach was employed. Light and electron (scanning and transmission) microscopy investigation showed that the FSP process reduces porosity and produces a more uniform distribution of second-phase particles.

This paper presents the classification of musical instruments using Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) and Higher Order Spectral features. MFCC, cepstral, temporal, spectral, and timbral features have been widely used in the task of musical instrument classification. As music sound signal is generated using non-linear dynamics, non-linearity and non-Gaussianity of the musical instruments are important features which have not been considered in the past. In this paper, hybridisation of MFCC and Higher Order Spectral (HOS) based features have been used in the task of musical instrument classification. HOS-based features have been used to provide instrument specific information such as non-Gaussianity and non-linearity of the musical instruments. The extracted features have been presented to Counter Propagation Neural Network (CPNN) to identify the instruments and their family. For experimentation, isolated sounds of 19 musical instruments have been used from McGill University Master Sample (MUMS) sound database. The proposed features show the significant improvement in the classification accuracy of the system.

Copper have always been an important material and incorporation of elements into copper for property enhancement. Bronze is a relevant cuprous alloy which is important for many industrial and automotive applications like bearings and machineries. The present research is directed towards the fabrication and tribological analysis of regular bronze (Cu-6Sn) and metal matrix composites reinforced with varying particle sized SiC ceramic reinforcement (30, 35 and 40 μm). The developed specimens were subjected to wear analysis according to ASTM standards, to identify the tribological properties utilizing a pin on disk tribometer. It was noted that the wear rates of developed MMC’s phenomenally decremented with an increase in size of SiC particle reinforcement. Also, the test parameters were influential in altering the wear rates to notable margins. The standard scanning electron microscopy techniques aided in identifying the influence of adhesive wear on the specimen surface.

This paper will show a new approach to the solution of SAT-problems. It has been based on the isomorphism between the Boolean algebras of finite sets and the Boolean algebras of logic functions depending on a finite number of binary variables. Ternary vectors are the main data structure representing sets of Boolean vectors. The respective set operations (mainly the complement and the intersection) can be executed in a bit-parallel way (64 bits at present), but additionally also on different processors working in parallel. Even a hierarchy of processors, a small set of processor cores of a single CPU, and the huge number of cores of the GPU has been taken into consideration. There is no need for any search algorithms. The approach always finds all solutions of the problem without consideration of special cases (such us no solution, one solution, all solutions). It also allows to include problem-relevant knowledge into the problem-solving process at an early point of time. Very often it is possible to use ternary vectors directly for the modeling of a problem. Some examples are used to illustrate the efficiency of this approach (Sudoku, Queen's problems on the chessboard, node bases in graphs, graph-coloring problems, Hamiltonian and Eulerian paths etc.).

New York Bay is one of the most important transition regions of ships trading to east America. The region plays an important role in the commerce of the New York metropolitan area. The area is surrounded with the coasts that have various levels of environmental sensitivity. The area accommodates high diversity of native ecosystems and species that are rather vulnerable in case of oil spill. Thus getting well informed about the likelihood, or fate, of oil spills around this region is of great importance so that proactive measures can be taken. The purpose of this study is to investigate the oil spill and predict the future accidents likely to be encountered around the Bay of New York. Two trajectory models have been conducted for the study. ADIOS (Automated Data Inquiry for Oil Spills), has been conducted for natural degradation calculations, and, GNOME (General NOAA Operational Modeling Environment), has been conducted for surface spread simulation. The results gained through these efforts are hoped to be useful for many organizations dealing with oil spill response operations and contribute to an effective and efficient coordination among the relevant institutions.

Opis:
Methodology for long-term underground lead-zinc mine planning based on fuzzy inventory theory is presented in this paper. We developed a fuzzy stochastic model of inventory control problem for planning lead-zinc ore production under uncertainty. The final purpose of this article is to find the optimal quantity of mined ore that should be stockpiled, in order to enable “feeding” of mineral processing plant in casus when the production in underground mine is interrupted, by using Possibilistic mean value of fuzzy number for defuzzing the fuzzy total annual inventory costs, and by using Extension of the Lagrangian method for solving inequality constrain problem. The different types of costs involved in mined ore inventory problems affect the efficiency of production scheduling. Dynamic nature of lead and zinc metal price is described by Ornstein-Uhlenbeck stochastic mean reverting process. The model is illustrated with a numerical example.
W pracy przedstawiono metodologię długoterminowego wydobycia cynku i ołowiu w kopalniach podziemnych z wykorzystaniem podejścia stochastycznego z elementami logiki rozmytej do określania wymaganego poziomu zapasów. Opracowaliśmy model stochastyczny z wykorzystaniem elementów logiki rozmytej do kontroli zapasów w planowaniu wydobycia cynku i ołowiu w warunkach niepewności. Celem końcowym pracy jest określenie optymalnej ilości wydobywanej rudy, którą należy zachować jako zapas tak aby zapewnić odpowiednie jej dostawy do zakładu przeróbczego nawet w przypadku przerwania wydobycia w kopalni podziemnej, opierając się na posybilistycznej wartości średniej liczby rozmytej i wyostrzeniu całkowitych rocznych kosztów zapasów. Wykorzystano także rozszerzenie metody Lagrange’a do rozwiązywania problemu więzów w nierówności. Różnorakie koszty związane ze składowaniem zapasów wydobywanej rudy mają wpływ na wydajność planowanej produkcji. Dynamiczne zmiany cen cynku i ołowiu zostały określone z wykorzystaniem rewersji średniej stochastycznej, w pracy Ornsteina-Uhlenbecka. Zaprezentowano przykład numeryczny jako ilustrację modelu.

Opis:
An ecoefficient, economical and sustainable valorization process for the synthesis of Co3O4 from waste lithium-ion battery (LIB) by leaching-solvent extract-scrubbing-precipitation stripping route has been developed. Through an optimization, the waste LIB cathode was leached using 2000 mole/m3 of H2SO4 and 5 Vol. % of the H2O2 at a pulp density of 100 kg/m3 under leaching time 60 minutes and temperature 75°C. From the separated leach liquor, cobalt was purified by saponified Cyanex 272. From cobalt, loaded Cyanex 272 impurities were scrubbed and the CoC2O4·2H2O was recovered through precipitation stripping. Finally, the precipitate was calcined to synthesize Co3O4, which is a precursor for LIB cathode materials manufacturing. From TGA-DTA, followed by XRD analysis it was confirmed that at 200°C the CoC2O4·2H2O can be converted to anhydrous CoC2O4 and at 350°C the anhydrous can be converted to Co3O4 and at 1100°C the Co3O4 can be converted to CoO. Through reported route waste LIB can back to LIB manufacturing process through a versatile and flexible industrial approach.

As the most recent video coding standard, High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) adopts various novel techniques, including a quad-tree based coding unit (CU) structure and additional angular modes used for intra encoding. These new techniques achieve a notable improvement in coding efficiency at the penalty of significant computational complexity increase. Thus, a fast HEVC coding algorithm is highly desirable. In this paper, we propose a fast intra CU decision algorithm for HEVC to reduce the coding complexity, mainly based on a key-point detection. A CU block is considered to have multiple gradients and is early split if corner points are detected inside the block. On the other hand, a CU block without corner points is treated to be terminated when its RD cost is also small according to statistics of the previous frames. The proposed fast algorithm achieves over 62% encoding time reduction with 3.66%, 2.82%, and 2.53% BD-Rate loss for Y, U, and V components, averagely. The experimental results show that the proposed method is efficient to fast decide CU size in HEVC intra coding, even though only static parameters are applied to all test sequences.

A recent IEEE Access Paper by Gunn, Allison and Abbott (GAA) proposed a new transient attack against the Kirchhoff-law-Johnson-noise (KLJN) secure key exchange system. The attack is valid, but it is easy to build a defense for the KLJN system. Here we note that GAA’s paper contains several invalid statements regarding security measures and the continuity of functions in classical physics. These deficiencies are clarified in our present paper, wherein we also emphasize that a new version of the KLJN system is immune against all existing attacks, including the one by GAA.

The work presents the results of the investigations of the effect of intensive cooling of alloy AM60 with additions of chromium and vanadium on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the obtained casts. The experimental casts were made in ceramic moulds preliminarily heated to 180°C, into which alloy AM60 with the additions was poured. Within the implementation of the research, a comparison was made of the microstructure and mechanical properties of the casts obtained in ceramic moulds cooled at ambient temperature and the ones intensively cooled in a cooling liquid. The kinetics and dynamics the thermal effects recorded by the TDA method were compared. Metallographic tests were performed with the use of an optical microscope and the strength properties of the obtained casts were examined: UTS(Rm), elongation (A%), and HB hardness.

The paper presents the results of the investigation of the effect of Cr and/or V alloy additions on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the magnesium AM60 alloy. The examinations are performed within the frames of a project aiming at the elaboration of an experimental and industrial technology of producing constructively complex elements of machines and devices made of magnesium alloys with the method of investment casting. It has been proven that small numbers of Cr and V alloy additions improve the strength properties: Rm, A%, and the hardness HB of the obtained casts. The experimental casts were made in ceramic molds.
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań wpływu dodatków stopowych Cr i/lub V na mikrostrukturę oraz właściwości mechaniczne stopu magnezu AM60. Badania prowadzone są w ramach projektu, którego celem jest opracowanie technologii doświadczalnej i przemysłowej wytwarzania złożonych konstrukcyjnie elementów maszyn i urządzeń ze stopów magnezu metodą wytapianych modeli. Wykazano, że niewielkie ilości dodatków stopowych Cr i V poprawiają właściwości wytrzymałościowe: Rm, A%. oraz twardość HB otrzymanych odlewów. Odlewy doświadczalne wykonano w formach ceramicznych.
