This paper focuses on the design and control of an active suspension system, where a tubular linear motor is integrated into a spring damper system of a vehicle. The spring takes up the weight of the vehicle. Therefore the electric linear motor can be designed very compact as it has to provide forces to adjust the damping characteristic only. Design and construction of the active suspension system, a control strategy and validation measurements at a test bench are presented.

Opis:
This paper presents an elasticity solution of adhesive tubular joints in laminated composites, with axial symmetry. In this model, adherends are orthotropic shells and the stacking sequences can be either symmetric or asymmetric. Adhesive layer is homogenous and made of isotropic material. They are modelled as continuously distributed tension/compression and shear springs. Employing constitutive, kinematics and equilibrium equations, sets of differential equations for each inside and outside of overlap zones are obtained. By solving these equations, shear and peel stresses in adhesive layer(s), as well as deflections, stress resultants and moment resultants in the adherends are determined. It is seen that the magnitude of peel stresses due to transverse shear stress resultant is much greater than that obtained from axial stress resultant. The developed results are compared with those obtained by finite element analysis using ANSYS software. The comparisons demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of the aforementioned methods.

The major reasons that cause the damage of damper bars in the leeward side are found in this paper. It provides a route for the structure optimization design of a hydro generator. Firstly, capacity of a 24 MW bulb tubular turbine generator is taken as an example in this paper. The transient electromagnetic field model is established, and the correctness of the model is verified by the comparison of experimental results and simulation data. Secondly, when the generator is operated at rated condition, the eddy current density distributions of damper bars are studied. And the asymmetric phenomenon of the eddy current density on damper bars is discovered. The change laws of the eddy currents in damper bars are determined through further analysis. Thirdly, through the study of eddy current distributions under different conditions, it is confirmed that the stator slots and armature reaction are the main factors to affect the asymmetric distribution of the eddy current in damper bars. Finally, the studies of the magnetic density distribution and theoretical analysis revealed the asymmetric distribution mechanism of eddy current density.

The paper presents the results of numerical studies based on a mathematical model determined by the stress-strain state examination method. Numerical computations for two steel grades, namely H40 and C45, were made at similar strain and process rate parameters. As a result of the studies, the distribution of elastic and plastic zones was obtained, while the tube hollow drawing force was verified experimentally. The distribution of longitudinal, radial and circumferential stresses and, after the drawing operation, the distribution of residual stresses in the tube cross-section were also obtained.

Opis:
A proper selection of steam reforming catalyst geometry has a direct effect on the efficiency and economy of hydrogen production from natural gas and is a very important technological and engineering issue in terms of process optimisation. This paper determines the influence of widely used seven-hole grain diameter (ranging from 11 to 21 mm), h/d (height/diameter) ratio of catalyst grain and Sh/St (hole surface/total cylinder surface in cross-section) ratio (ranging from 0.13 to 0.37) on the gas load of catalyst bed, gas flow resistance, maximum wall temperature and the risk of catalyst coking. Calculations were based on the one-dimensional pseudo-homogeneous model of a steam reforming tubular reactor, with catalyst parameters derived from our investigations. The process analysis shows that it is advantageous, along the whole reformer tube length, to apply catalyst forms of h/d = 1 ratio, relatively large dimensions, possibly high bed porosity and Sh/St ≈ 0.30-0.37 ratio. It enables a considerable process intensification and the processing of more natural gas at the same flow resistance, despite lower bed activity, without catalyst coking risk. Alternatively, plant pressure drop can be reduced maintaining the same gas load, which translates directly into diminishing the operating costs as a result of lowering power consumption for gas compression.

In order to research the losses and heat of damper bars thoroughly, a multislice moving electromagnetic field-circuit coupling FE model of tubular hydro-generator and a 3D temperature field FE model of the rotor are built respectively. The factors such as rotor motion and non-linearity of the time-varying electromagnetic field, the stator slots skew, the anisotropic heat conduction of the rotor core lamination and different heat dissipation conditions on the windward and lee side of the poles are considered. Furthermore, according to the different operating conditions, different rotor structures and materials, compositive calculations about the losses and temperatures of the damper bars of a 36 MW generator are carried out, and the data are compared with the test. The results show that the computation precision is satisfied and the generator design is reasonable.

Raman spectroscopy is a commonly used tool in bio-diagnostics and micro sensor technology. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering provides high signal enhancements especially at micro and nanostructured metallic surfaces. Micro tubular coil heaters have been widely investigated because of their extensive applications in PET Preformed Moulds, Hot Runner Nozzles & Bushings and Thin Walled Container Moulds and other Microsystems. This paper describes the characterization, experimental investigation and analysis of Titanium Nitride (TiN) micro tubular coil heater using Raman spectroscopy and Comsol multiphysics. The material characterization was performed using Raman spectrometer and the geometric optimization for the micro tubular coil heater was performed by simulating a wide range of possible geometries using COMSOLTM, a commercial Finite Element Analysis (FEA) package. The characteristic dimensions of the microstructures are varied and the results are discussed and compared to each other. The simulated results of micro tubular heaters having an improved temperature distribution over the sensing area and a higher density of integration is presented in this paper.
Spektroskopia ramanowska jest powszechnie stosowanym narzędziem w bio-diagnostyce i technologii mikroczujnika. Powierzchniowo wzmocniona spektroskopia ramanowska zapewnia wysokie wzmocnienie sygnału zwłaszcza na mikro i nanostrukturalnych powierzchniach metalowych. Mikro-grzałki (mikro cewki) były szeroko badane ze względu na ich szerokie zastosowanie w formowaniu wtryskowym, podgrzewaczach dysz i tulej, i cienkościennych formach i innych mikrosystemach. Artykuł opisuje charakterystykę, badania eksperymentalne i analizę mikro-grzałki rurowej z azotku tytanu (TiN) za pomocą spektroskopii ramanowskiej i oprogramowania COMSOL Multiphysics. Charakterystykę materiału przeprowadzono za pomocą spektrometru Ramana a geometryczna optymalizacje dla mikro-grzałki prowadzono symulując szeroki zakres możliwych geometrii, za pomocą COMSOLTU, komercyjnego pakietu do analizy metodą elementów skończonych. Charakterystyczne wymiary mikrostruktur są zróżnicowane, a wyniki zostały omówione i porównane ze sobą. Symulowane wyniki mikro-cylindrycznych grzejników o ulepszonym rozkładzie temperatur w obszarze wykrywania i większej gęstości integracji zostały przedstawione w niniejszym artykule.

This paper evaluates the performance of fractional-slot per pole winding configurations for tubular permanent magnet (PM) machines that can effectively eliminate the most undesirable space harmonics in a simple and cost-effective manner. The benefits of the proposed machine topology winding configurations are illustrated through comparison with 9-slot, 10-pole tubular PM machine developed for a free piston energy converter under the same specification and volumetric constraints. It has been shown that the proposed machine topology results in more than 7 times reduction in the eddy current loss in the mover magnets and supporting tube, and hence avoids potential problem of excessive mover temperature and risk of demagnetization.

The process of carbon dioxide removal from monoethanolamine (MEA) - water solution was investigated on Poly Di Methyl Siloxane (PDMS) hydrophobic tubular membrane with a ceramic support. The effects of feed temperature, liquid flow rate and MEA concentration on C02 mass transfer and selectivity were examined and found to be with a reasonable deviation (+/-25%) with predictions based on the multilayer film model. The membrane resistance was evaluated in separate experiments. The measured C02 mass fluxes (0.17-0.45 kg/(m2h)) were found to be independent of the MEA concentration in the feed.

Abstract The present paper describes the results of experimental investigations of heat transfer during condensation of R134a, R404A and R407C in pipe minichannels with internal diameters 0.31-3.30 mm. The results concern investigations of the local heat transfer coefficient. The results were compared with the correlations proposed by other authors. Within the range of examined parameters of the condensation process in minichannels made of stainless steel, it was established that the values of the heat transfer coefficient may be described with Akers et al., Mikielewicz and Shah correlations within a limited range of the mass flux density of the refrigerant and the minichannel diameter. On the basis of experimental investigations, the authors proposed their own correlation for the calculation of local heat transfer coefficient.

This paper concerns issues related to the development of designs of stabilizer bars for new motor vehicle models. It involves not only the designing of a stabilizer bar with the shape required by the manufacturer, but also the preparation of bending and heat treatment processes as well as the performance of strength and fatigue tests. In the prototype development phase, the simulations techniques (FEM) may be used to assess the design. The article contains a detailed analysis of a stabilizer bar designated with the DC 218 VA symbol. Performed numerical strength and fatigue calculations showed that the developed stabilizer bar design with the desired shape did not achieve the required number of fatigue cycles. It was also proven at the test stand by testing a prototype stabilizer bar. Therefore, it was suggested to supplement the technological process with an additional shot peening operation whose main aim was to reduce the length of microcracks on the stabilizer bar’s surface. This effect was confirmed during comparative metallographic tests of not shot – peened and shot – peened stabilizer bars. After shot peening, the analysed stabilizer bar reached a fatigue strength which exceeded the limits set by the manufacturer.

The main objective of this investigation is to assess the feasibility of strengthening of corroded (damaged) square hollow steel tubular sections subjected to compression and to develop or predict the suitable wrapping scheme of fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) to enhance the structural behaviour of it. For this study, compact mild steel tubes were used with the main variable being FRP characteristics. Carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) fabrics was used as horizontal strips (lateral ties) with other parameters such as the number of layers and spacing of strips. Among fourteen specimens, six were externally bonded by CFRP strips having a constant width of 50mm with a spacing of 20mm and the remaining six were externally bonded by CFRP strips having a constant width of 70mm with a spacing of 20mm, two columns were unbonded. Experiments were undertaken until the failure of columns to fully understand the influence of FRP characteristics on the compressive behaviour of the square sections including their failure modes, axial stress-strain behaviour, enhancement in the load carrying capapcity, and effect of distribution of CFRP layers. Finally, the behaviour of externally bonded hollow tubular sections was compared with one another and also with the control specimens. Evaluation of the results will lead to optimum CFRP jacketing/ wrapping arrangements for the steel tubes considered here.

A process capable of NOx control by ozone injection gained wide attention as a possible alternative to proven post combustion technologies such as selective catalytic (and non-catalytic) reduction. The purpose of the work was to develop a numerical model of NO oxidation with O3 that would be capable of providing guidelines for process optimisation during different design stages. A Computational Fluid Dynamics code was used to simulate turbulent reacting flow. In order to reduce computation expense a 11-step global NO - O3 reaction mechanism was implemented into the code. Model performance was verified by the experiment in a tubular flow reactor for two injection nozzle configurations and for two O3/NO ratios of molar fluxe. The objective of this work was to estimate the applicability of a simplified homogeneous reaction mechanism in reactive turbulent flow simulation. Quantitative conformity was not completely satisfying for all examined cases, but the final effect of NO oxidation was predicted correctly at the reactor outlet.

The paper presents a research on the relationship between friction coefficient and friction pressure (6 MPa, 12 MPa, 16.5 MPa), rotational speed (1000 rpm, 1400 rpm, 2000 rpm) and surface temperature during traditional friction welding. Values of friction pressure force and friction torque were read on an oscilloscope connected to a piezoelectric sensor and temperature was measured with a thermovision camera on circumference of the welding surface and in the heat-affected zone. Friction was measured between two tubular elements OD 18 mm x WT 2 mm. It was found that the friction coefficient is dependent mostly on pressure force and temperature. Its value ranges from 0.12 to 0.83, with the top value at 16.5 MPa and 1400 rpm.
Badano zalezność współczynnika tarcia od wielkości docisku (6, 12 i 16,5 MPa), prędkości obrotowej (1000, 1400 i 2000 min-1) oraz temperatury na powierzchni elementów podczas konwencjonalnego zgrzewania tarciowego. Wartości siły docisku oraz momentu tarcia odczytano z oscyloskopu podłączonego do czujnika piezoelektrycznego, natomiast pomiaru temperatury dokonano kamerą termowizyjną na obwodzie powierzchni zgrzewania oraz w strefie wpływu ciepła. Badano tarcie dwóch elementów rurowych o średnicy 18 mm i grubości ścianek 2 mm. Stwierdzono, że wartość współczynnika tarcia, wykazuje najwiekszą zalezność od wielkości docisku i temperatury. Współczynnik tarcia wyniósł od 0,12 do 0,83, przy czym największa wartość wykazano dla docisku 16,5 MPa i 1400 min-1.

A method for modeling of the dynamics characteristics for a 5-phase permanent magnet tubular linear motor (PMTLM) is presented. Its electromagnetic nonlinear field analysis with finite element method (FEM) has been coupled with the circuit model. The calculation model includes the equations for electrical circuits and mechanical quantities as well. They have been obtained using Lagrange's method. The calculated and measured waves of the mover position have been compared for several values of the excitation current. This comparison yields a good agreement. Presented calculation model is very useful in designing and optimization of the PMTLM and in the calculation of the parameters for the control algorithms intended for such a type of actuators.
