    Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie i analiza pojęcia ambiwalencji w kontekście badań socjologicznych, w tym eksploracji obszaru życia rodzinnego. Ambiwalencja to termin pochodzący z psychiatrii oraz psychoanalizy, spopularyzowany w socjologii przez Roberta K. Mertona i Elinor Barber. W tekście opisano sens pojęcia ambiwalencji w kontekście socjologii oraz ewolucję tej kategorii od ambiwalencji socjologicznej do ambiwalencji strukturalnej. Dodatkowo, autorka wykorzystuje kategorię ambiwalencji w analizie wyników badania praktyk rodzinnych i rodzicielskich, opisując dwa przykłady: ambiwalencję widoczną w zestawieniu oczekiwań rodziców wobec dzieci z codziennymi doświadczeniami dorosłych oraz ambiwalentny stosunek rodziców do urządzeń elektronicznych używanych przez dzieci. Podstawowe pytanie, które stawiane jest w artykule, brzmi: co nowego kategoria ambiwalencji wnosi do analiz prowadzonych w ramach socjologii życia rodzinnego.
    The aim of the article is to present and analyze the concept of ambivalence in the context of sociological research, particularly in the studies of family life. Derived from psychiatry and psychoanalysis, the notion of ambivalence has been popularized in sociology by Robert K. Merton and Elinor Barber. The article discusses the meaning of ambivalence as a sociological concept as well as the development of this category (from sociological to structural ambivalence). Additionally, the author uses the category of ambivalence to analyze the findings of the study on family and parental practices. The ambivalence appears in the juxtaposition of parents’ expectations towards children and adults’ everyday experiences as well as in the ambivalent of parents’ attitude to the electronic devices used by their children. The article aims to answer the key question of what the category of ambivalence contributes to the sociology of family life.

    Tekst ten prezentuje wyniki analizy studium przypadków sądowych i medialnych najistotniejszych dla dyskursu publicznego na temat rodzin nieheteroseksualnych ostatniej dekady. Fakt ich zaistnienia, jak również sposób ich przedstawienia i opisywania w dyskursie stanowi przyczynek do analizy przemian w obrazie rodziny w dyskursie publicznym. Świadczy również o przemianach w obrębie strategii emancypacyjnych społeczności nieheteroseksualnych w Polsce. W pierwszej części tekstu autorki prezentują dominujący dyskurs konserwatywny mediów głównego nurtu (re)prezentujący i reprodukujący tradycyjną wizję rodziny. W drugiej zaś odtworzone zostają sposoby, za pomocą których bohaterowie i bohaterki omawianych tu przypadków reagują na próby ich marginalizowania oraz brak rozpoznania charakteru ich relacji w sferze publicznej. Opisane zostają podejmowane przez nich subwersywne i emancypacyjne strategie działania, mające na celu legitymizację ich rodzin. Rozważania zaprezentowane w niniejszym tekście usytuowane są w kontekście socjologii seksualności i płci, codzienności, przemian dyskursu, ruchów społecznych. Wpisują się w analizę przemian rodziny oraz praktyk „wystawiania” własnej rodziny na pokaz, pokazywania własnych relacji jako rodzinnych, szukanie ich uznania w oczach innych (displaying families).
    This article analyses the most significant judicial and media cases about LGBT families in the last decade. Their existence in the mainstream discourse shows the changes in the image of the family in the public sphere, as well as changes within the emancipatory strategies of the LGBT communities in Poland. Firstly, the dominant, conservative and mainstream media discourse is examined; it (re)presents and (re)produces the traditional vision of the family at the heart of a society. Then, authors move to analyse responses to the marginalization and lack of recognition in the public sphere faced by the LGBT families. They propose to read them as wilful and subversive, the emancipatory strategies of legitimization of ‘queer kinship’ in the public sphere. The article is rooted within sociology of gender and sexuality, sociology of family and everyday life, social movements, and transformation discourse. It calls for the attentive analysis of processes of “displaying families” and the social changes of family forms.

    The purpose of this paper is to analyse and interpret family life as an area of individuals’ emotional work and investments. The perspective of the above mentioned analysis is designated by the sociology of mental health. Relationships within a family have undeniable influence on the state of people’s mental health. These relationships can be a source of support as well as emotional burden. Families can either compensate for the social stress individuals experience due to processes at the macro level or enhance the emotional tension resulting from social stress. The main method used in this study is meta-analysis of epidemiological and clinical data concerning the mental health of the global (WHO) and Polish population (EZOP-Poland) and my own research – a nationwide, representative survey (N=1,000) carried out in Poland, which was part of a broader theoretical and empirical project devoted to the process of social construction of the categories of mental health, disease and disorder in late modern society. I also refer to my qualitative research including twenty in-depth interviews with psychologists, psychiatrists and psychotherapists who had experience in carrying out family, couples and individual therapy. The research objective was to find out whether and in what way some issues described from the socio-cultural perspective manifest themselves in the form of problems with which people turn to psychotherapists. The analysis and interpretation of data from the above mentioned sources enable us to put forward a thesis that living within a family entails not necessarily an alternative (either emotional burden or support), but a conjunction (both emotional burden and support). In this context the practical solutions that enable families to protect and strengthen the individual’s mental health should be searched for.

    Celem artykułu było zbadanie szczegółowego przebiegu tradycyjnego rytuału błogosławieństwa rodziców przed ślubem w sytuacji, kiedy organizują go niewprawni uczestnicy, a znaczenie rytuału nie jest oczywiste w świetle zmian życia rodzinnego. Uznano, że badanie sposobu wykonania rytuału może powiedzieć coś ważnego o jego obecnym znaczeniu. Materiałem empirycznym były filmy weselne. Z wyjściowej bazy 50 filmów wybrano 20 sekwencji błogosławieństw, które poddano transkrypcji i analizie multimodalnej. W wyniku analizy pokazano, że charakterystyczna dla wykonania rytuału była niepewność uczestników, niekompletność i nadmiarowość gestów oraz ogólne zróżnicowanie ich form. Najważniejszym rysem organizacji rytuału w kontekście kształtowania relacji rodzinnych było odgrywanie jednakowości serii gestów rytualnych przez kolejnych wykonawców. Istotne były także nietypowe zmiany kolejności uczestników w sekwencjach rytuału. W dyskusji z koncepcjami, które ujmują kwestię społecznych oczekiwań wobec sposobu kształtowania rodziny w kontekście nierówności społecznych, podjęto próbę interpretacji znaczenia badanego rytuału dla zachowania tradycyjnego obrazu życia rodzinnego i zarazem ochrony statusu jej członków.
    The aim of this article is to analyze in detail the traditional ritual of wedding blessings, which are conducted by unskilled participants and often ambiguous in their meaning. The method of research was a multimodal analysis of 20 transcribed excerpts selected from 50 Polish wedding films. As a result, some characteristics of the ritual performance were identified, such as the uncertainty of the participants, the incompleteness and redundancy of gestures, and the general diversity of forms of enactment. In the context of family relations, the performance of a similar series of gestures by subsequent performers as well as order were most important. While discussing some concepts which connect the organization of family life with social inequalities and family ideologies, an attempt was made to interpret how the wedding blessing ritual could simultaneously preserve both the traditional image of family life and the status of its members.
