    Many studies confirmed the positive effect of trust on human relations and performance in organizations. As a social judgment, trust should be related to perceived competence and warmth as two basic dimensions of person perception. Surprisingly, to date no attempts have been made to examine the influence of attributed competence and warmth on social judgments in interpersonal relations at work. To this end, we examine the influence of perceived competence and warmth on trust, liking and respect in upward and downward work relations. A study involving 190 middle-stage managers revealed that the two fundamental dimensions of social cognition (competence and warmth) influence respect, liking and trust. Competence had a stronger effect on respect than warmth; the opposite was true for liking. Trust was conditioned by both competence and warmth to an equal, high extent. At the same time, warmth expressed by supervisors led to higher results in liking, respect and trust in them than warmth expressed by subordinates.

    The main goal of our study was to investigate the role of insight into one’s own biases (metacognitive self) in the process of hypothesis validation in accordance to the two fundamental social perception domains (community and competence) on the example of confirmation bias. The study was conducted on a group of 593 participants with the use of a confirmation bias procedure, a free recall procedure and the Metacognitive Self scale. We manipulated with the domain and the value of information given to the respondents. We suspected that individuals with a high metacognitive self, in opposition to low metacognitive self ones, would not process the given information according to the two fundamental social perception domains. The results verified the existence of an interaction effect of the metacognitive self (MCS) and the domain of the information given about a perceived person on the susceptibility to follow the confirmation bias. Contrary to the low metacognitive self individuals, who show a higher tendency for the confirmation bias within the competence than the community domain, persons with a high insight into their own biases express the same level of confirmation bias in no respect to the domain of the information. The value of the information has no significant influence.

    Opis:
    The competence-based learning-teaching process is a significant approach to the didactical process organization. In this paper the mathematical model of the competence-based learning-teaching process is proposed. The model integrates three models: a knowledge representation model (based on the ontological approach), a motivation model (as a behavioral-incentive model) and a servicing model (in a form of the queuing model). The proposed integrated model allows to control the learning-teaching process on different levels of management. The learning-teaching process can be interpreted as competence-based due to Open and Distance Learning (ODL) philosophy. We assume that the competence is a result of fundamental, procedural and project knowledge acquisition in accordance to the incoming European Qualification Framework.

    Pierre Bourdieu pozostaje prominentną postacią nie tylko w socjologii sztuki i kultury, ale socjologii w ogóle. Jego koncepcje są szeroko omawiane i przyczyniają się do generowania licznych, empirycznych i teoretycznych działań w tej dyscyplinie. Jednakże jego spuścizna bywa kwestionowana i bardziej lub mniej modyfikowana. Podążając nowymi ścieżkami badań, autor stara się ocenić, jak dalece twierdzenia Bourdieu o zróżnicowaniu publiczności sztuki, estetycznej dyspozycji i kompetencji artystycznej są aktualne, a jak bardzo wymagają przemyślenia w kontekście współczesnych przemian estetycznych. Bazując na badaniach uczestnictwa w kulturze i preferencjach mieszkańców dużego miasta, pokazano estetyczne wymiary i postawy, które są aktywne podczas kontemplowania sztuki. Zidentyfikowano różne konfiguracje dyspozycji, z nich niektóre (jak konfiguracja „postmodernistyczna”) nie były obecne w pracach Bourdieu. Inne wyniki potwierdzają przypuszczenie, że odbiór sztuki i wiedza związane są z pozycją klasową i zasobami kapitału, włączając kapitał społeczny i indywidualne sieci.
    Pierre Bourdieu has been a prominent figure not only in the sociology of art and culture but also in sociology at large. His concepts have been widely debated and have helped to generate a number of empirical and theoretical interventions in the discipline. However, his legacy has been debated and subject to greater or lesser modifi cations. Following the new lines of research, the article assesses to what extent Bourdieu’s claims about differentiation of art audience, aesthetic disposition and art competence are still relevant and to what extent they need to be modified in the context of contemporary aesthetic change. Drawing on a study of cultural participation and preferences of the inhabitants of a large city, the analysis demonstrates the aesthetic dimensions and attitudes that are active in art contemplation. Different dispositional configurations are found, some of which (as the “postmodern” one) have not been recognized in Bourdieu’s account. Other findings corroborate the premise that art reception and knowledge are linked to class position and vary by stock of assets, including social capital and individual networks.

    Opis:
    As part of the broader debate on the changing nature of the art sphere, the author raises the question of whether Poles’ degree of participation in art is still strongly connected with social position. He makes use of the categories of esthetic disposition and artistic competence in Pierre Bourdieu’s sense of the terms. He bases his conclusions on quantitative and qualitative data obtained from research into the tastes and cultural participation of Wrocław inhabitants in 2011. He analyses patterns of cultural engagement. While the general attitude toward art and knowledge of artists appears, in accord with the author’s hypothesis, to be connected with occupation, income, and education at the same time the distinctive power of ‘high culture’ has decreased among the young generation in comparison with the older generation. This leads the author to suppose that traditional forms of high culture are playing a lesser role in the creation of social boundaries, although this does not mean the erosion of cultural capital as such but rather the emergence of new forms of culture and new socio-cultural divisions.
