Successful management of an information technology (IT) project is the most desirable for all organisations and stakeholders. Many researchers elaborated that risk management is a key part of project management for any project size. Risk management is so critical because it provides project managers with a forward-looking view of both threats and opportunities to improve the project success. The objectives of this research are to explore organisational factors affecting IT project success and risk management practices influencing IT project success. Risk management practices include risk identification, risk analysis, risk response planning, and risk monitoring and control. The IT project success is measured by proces performance and product performance. Data are collected from 200 project managers, IT managers, and IT analysts in IT firms through questionnaires and analysed using Independent Sample t-test, One-way ANOVA, and Multiple Linear Regression at the statistical significance level of 0.05. The results show that the differences in organisational types affect IT project success in all aspects, while the differences on organisational sizes affect IT project success in the aspect of product performance and total aspects. Risk identification and risk response planning influence the process performance and the total aspects of IT project success. Risk identification has the highest positive influence on product performance, followed closely by risk response, while risk analysis negatively influences product performance.

The large variability of internal and external factors is a serious problem hampering production management. To meet the standards and at the same time ensure the viability of production it is necessary to quickly respond to problems that arise during production processes, and to adequately correct plans. Measures taken in the management of madetoorder production are frequently single and unique, and therefore resemble the features of project management. The paper discusses the project management method derived from the theory of constraints – CCPM. The paper describes an original algorithm for CCPM implementation and presents the results of success CCPM implementation in a company from the Wielkopolska region. The implementation of CCPM resulted in improved timeliness of order delivery, improved communication and standardization of processes related to order delivery.

In this paper, discrete-continuous project scheduling problems with preemptable activities are considered. In these problems, activities of a project simultaneously require discrete and continuous resources for their execution. The activities are preemptable, and the processing rate of each activity is a continuous, increasing function of the amount of a single continuous resource allotted to the activity at a time. The problem is to find a precedence- and discrete resource-feasible schedule and, simultaneously, continuous resource allocation that would minimize the project duration. Convex and concave processing rate functions are considered separately. We show that for convex functions the problem is simple, whereas for concave functions a special methodology has to be developed. We discuss the methodology for three cases of the problem: no discrete resource constraints, one discrete resource being a set of parallel, identical machines, and an arbitrary number of discrete resources. In each case we analyze separately independent and precedence-related activities. Some conclusions and directions for future research are given.

The paper presents a formal description of the resource allocation problem for resource-constrained project scheduling. A schedule can be executed by various resource flow networks which may differ in terms of resistance to disruptions occurring during project execution. The authors define such criteria of evaluating a resource flow network which can be more useful than robustness metrics used so far in the research. The authors discuss the importance of robust scheduling for execution projects and propose metrics for resource allocation robustness which take into consideration the stability of the final schedule. Those metrics make it possible to carry out a more precise analysis concerning the properties of the resource flow network in terms of its robustness to disruptions in comparison with a well known flexibility indicator, flex.

Investor bears responsibility for proper preparation of the investment process. One of his tasks is to prepare the project documentation and obtaina building permit. Frequently, during his work, there are situations and events whose impact interferes with the design solutions. Regardless of reasons, alterations to a project constitute a source of cost risk. In each case, the Investor should be prepared for this type of a risk. Exposure to risk should be taken into account in the planning stage of the investment. Also, a model of investment execution should be chosen at this stage. The type of model is associated with the distribution of risk throughout the project. The aim of this paper is to identify events that generate risk related to alterations to Project Documentation in the context of the selection of the investment execution model.

Jednym z podstawowych przedmiotów na kierunku gospodarka przestrzenna jest projektowanie urbanistyczne. Kluczowym celem realizowanym w ramach tego przedmiotu jest przekazanie studentom wiedzy i umiejętności w zakresie projektowania zespołów urbanistycznych. Dodatkowo, realizacja modułu obejmującego zajęcia teoretyczne i zajęcia praktyczne, ma przyczynić się do wykształcenia u studentów umiejętności pracy w zespole i zarządzania projektem. Studenci w ramach realizacji przedmiotu mają możliwość uzyskania kompetencji niezbędnych w przyszłej pracy na stanowiskach związanych z projektowaniem zagospodarowania przestrzeni, ale także w zakresie innych profesji, w których kluczowym elementem jest zarządzanie nie tylko przestrzenią, ale także samym procesem planistyczno-projektowym, które stanowią jedne z najbardziej pożądanych przez pracodawców kompetencji na rynku pracy. W opracowaniu dokonana została identyfikacja efektów kształcenia realizowanego metodą projektu wraz z oceną potencjału zastosowania Partycypacyjnych Systemów Informacji Geograficznej (PGIS, ang. Public Participatory Geographic Infomation Systems) w celu usprawnienia procesu projektowego w ramach realizacji przedmiotu projektowanie urbanistyczne. Jednak problematyka podejmowana w opracowaniu może zostać odniesiona także do innych przedmiotów realizowanych na kierunku gospodarka przestrzenna, poświęconych tematyce szeroko pojmowanego planowania przestrzennego.
One of the main subjects within the program of Spatial Economy education is urban design, which key objective is to obtain knowledge and skills in the design of urban complexes. In addition, the expected result of the implementation of the module that includes theoretical and practical classes is to contribute to the education of graduates in the field of teamwork and project management that are one of the key competencies of future graduates. The aim of the article is to identify the learning outcomes of the project method application with an evaluation of the potential use of tools dedicated to promote public participation in urban planning that can support the design process.

The aim of the article is to answer two research questions concerning the influence of organizational factors and shape of project portfolio on the content and scope, as well as on the stakeholders engagement in project planning. The research strategy included a questionnairebased method. The respondents were representatives of the chosen companies located in Poland, from varied types of industries. The key research finding is that most frequently addressed areas of project planning are those of the iron-triangle of project constraints. There is still lack of understanding for communication, risk and quality planning in projects, which is consonant with recent studies of maturity in project management areas. There are significant differences between industries in terms of areas of project planning. Power engineering seems to be more mature in terms of more frequent practices of planning the project schedule, resources and risk. The research showed a number of significant correlations between components of project planning and both organizational and project portfolio factors, which justifies the statement that those factors can be seen as determinants of project planning practices.

The concept of the program uses the Project Based Learning approach and it is based on three main projects implemented throughout the curriculum. The inspiration was the programs of three foreign universities and extensive research of various groups of stakeholders. The initial evaluation of the program first semester proves high acceptance and satisfaction of the students.

Opis:
Production rates for various activities and overall construction project duration are significantly influenced by crew formation. Crews are composed of available renewable resources. Construction companies tend to reduce the number of permanent employees, which reduces fixed costs, but at the same time limits production capacity. Therefore, construction project planning must be carried out by means of scheduling methods which allow for resource constrains. Authors create a mathematical model for optimized scheduling of linear construction projects with consideration of resources and work continuity constraints. Proposed approach enables user to select optimal crew formation under limited resource supply. This minimizes project duration and improves renewable resource utilization in construction linear projects. This paper presents mixed integer linear programming to model this problem and uses a case study to illustrate it.
Przedsięwzięcia budowlane o charakterze liniowym (takie jak budowa autostrad, dróg kolejowych, tuneli czy rurociągów) składają się z czynności powtarzanych na działkach roboczych. Istotną częścią procesu harmonogramowania przedsięwzięć budowlanych jest dobór zasobów i synchronizacja ich pracy. Liczba przypisanych pracowników lub rodzaj i liczba maszyn budowlanych wpływa na czas wykonania procesów powtarzanych na kolejnych lokalizacjach i w konsekwencji na czas realizacji całego przedsięwzięcia. Ze względu na obecną recesję gospodarczą, która powoduje trudności w pozyskiwaniu nowych zleceń oraz rosnące koszty pracy, wiele przedsiębiorstw budowlanych redukuje swój potencjał kadrowy. Stąd też istnieje konieczność udoskonalenia metod planowania uwzględniających ograniczoną dostępność kluczowych zasobów. Harmonogramowanie z uwzględnieniem ograniczonej dostępności zasobów, w szczególności brygad specjalizowanych i maszyn, stanowi problem decyzyjny rozwiązywany w przypadku większości przedsięwzięć budowlanych.

This paper focuses on the analysis of selected risks as part of investments in the power engineering at the initial (tender) stage of the life cycle in the context of the method of project management by the Contractor. The study was carried out on the basis of an analysis of over 500 tenders in the power engineering, from the last 5 years, taking into account future forecast data. The analysis carried out in this article was aimed at achieving specific and unique goals and results aimed at creating a useful product, which is the Contractor’s offer in the power engineering, taking into account the most significant risks. The result of this article is to support the project team in implementing risk management in the project at the tender stage. For this purpose, the risks with their basic parameters were defined, which allowed for the development of a risk matrix taking into account the data obtained in the tender procedures of leading electric power distributors. Based on the proposed risk quantification criteria, a list of remedial actions was prepared for all risk types listed in this article. In addition, the aspects of possible elimination/reduction of the impact of the most significant risks that occur at the analyzed stage of the investment life cycle were developed.

Maintenance of process plants requires application of good maintenance practice due to a great level of complexity. From a plant maintenance point of view, the most significant activity is turnaround, an activity carried out through project task with long planning process period and very short execution period, which makes it one of the most complex projects of maintenance in general. It is exactly this kind of maintenance that is based on multidisciplinarity which has to be implemented through the system of quality management on all levels of maintenance management. This paper defines the most significant factors determining the process of turnaround projects quality management and its efficiency. Such relation is observed through moderating influence of complexity on process management efficiency in the turnaround project. The empirical research was conducted based on the survey of turnaround project participants in five refineries in Croatia, Italy, Slovakia and Hungary. For exploring the influence of research variables testing of the target relation is carried out by applying logistical regression. Research results confirm the significance of complexity as variable that significantly contributes to the project performance through the moderating influence on success of the project, as well as the influence of an efficient management on a plant turnaround project key results. Beside theoretical indications, practical implications that arise from this research study mainly refers to management process of the industrial plant maintenance project.

The article presents the resource-constrained project scheduling problem with the maximisation of discounted cash flows from the contractor’s perspective: with cash outflows related to starting individual activities and with cash inflows for completing project stages (milestones). The authors propose algorithms for improving a forward active schedule by iterative one-unit right shifts of activities, taking into account different resource flow networks. To illustrate the algorithms and problem, a numerical example is presented. Finally, the algorithms are tested using standard test problems with additionally defined cash flows and contractual milestones.
