This paper shows results of researches of a structure and mechanical properties of metal sheets of IF steels subjected to recrystallization annealing. The annealing was held in the scope of the temperature of 600-900°C over 25 min time. The impact of heat treatment on changes of properties and structure of the researches steel has been analysed. During annealing typical processes of rebuilding of the structure deformed as a result of cold deformation in the form of forming new recrystallized grains and their growth were observed. As the temperature of annealing increases the hardness of the material gradually decreases.

Opis:
Laser-generated surface patterns provide the means for local mechanical interlocking between the joined materials, tunes the wettability of surfaces that come in contact, and generally are the main factor for bonding strength enhancement, especially between dissimilar materials. This paper presents the influence of different patterning overlays generated with a pulsed laser on the surface of stainless-steel sheets. For all experiments, an overlapping degree of 90% has been chosen between three different patterns, while the engraving speed, pulse frequency and number of passes have varied. The textured surfaces’ morphology was assessed through optical microscopy, and the roughness of the surfaces was correlated with the corresponding experimental parameters. The results have indicated promising insights for joining stainless steel to plastic materials, which is otherwise difficult to assess through usual welding techniques.

In the high-alloy, ferritic - austenitic (duplex) stainless steels high tendency to cracking, mainly hot-is induced by micro segregation processes and change of crystallization mechanism in its final stage. The article is a continuation of the problems presented in earlier papers [1-4]. In the range of high temperature cracking appear one mechanism a decohesion - intergranular however, depending on the chemical composition of the steel, various structural factors decide of the occurrence of hot cracking. The low-carbon and low-alloy cast steel casting hot cracking cause are type II sulphide, in high carbon tool cast steel secondary cementite mesh and/or ledeburite segregated at the grain solidified grains boundaries, in the case of Hadfield steel phosphorus - carbide eutectic, which carrier is iron-manganese and low solubility of phosphorus in high manganese matrix. In duplex cast steel the additional factor increasing the risk of cracking it is very "rich" chemical composition and related with it processes of precipitation of many secondary phases.

The paper presents the problem of obtaining a permanent diffusional joint between the working surface layer and the base part in a bimetallic casting. The studied bimetallic casting was obtained as a result of using the founding method of layer coating directly in the cast process. The casting prepared using this method consists of two fundamental parts, i.e., the grey cast iron base and the working surface layer which constitutes of X6Cr 13 high-chromium stainless steels plate. Based on the obtained results it was confirmed that the decisive phenomena that are needed to create a permanent joint between the two components of the bimetallic casting are carbon and heat transport from the high-carbon and hot base material which was poured into the mould in the form of liquid metal to the low-carbon and cold material of the working layer which was placed in the mould cavity in the form of a monolithic insert.
W pracy przedstawiono problematykę uzyskiwania trwałego połączenia pomiędzy warstwą roboczą a częścią nośną w odlewie bimetalowym, który został wykonany przy użyciu metody nakładania warstw bezpośrednio w procesie odlewania. Wykonane tą metodą odlewy złożone są z dwóch zasadniczych elementów tj. części nośnej z żeliwa szarego oraz warstwy roboczej, którą stanowi blacha ze stali ferrytycznej odpornej na korozję gatunku X6Cr 13. Stwierdzono, że zjawiskami decydującymi o utworzeniu trwałego połączenia pomiędzy łączonymi tworzywami składowymi bimetalicznego odlewu warstwowego jest transport węgla i ciepła w kierunku od wysokowęglowego i gorącego materiału części nośnej wlewanego do formy w postaci ciekłego metalu do niskowęglowego i zimnego materiału warstwy roboczej umieszczanego w postaci wkładki monolitycznej we wnęce formy.

Ferrtic/martensitic and ODS steels were fabricated by the mechanical alloying process, and their microstructures and mechanical properties were investigated. The 9Cr-1W and 9Cr-1W-0.3Ti-0.35Y2 O3 (in wt.%) steels were prepared by the same fabrication process such as mechanical alloying, hot isostatic pressing, and hot rolling processes. A microstructural observation of these steels indicated that the Ti and Y2 O3 additions to 9Cr-1W steel were significantly effective to refine the grain size and form nano-sized Y-Ti-O oxide particles. As a result, the tensile strengths at room and elevated temperatures were considerably enhanced. Considerable improvement of the creep resistances at 700°C was also evaluated. It is thus concluded that 9Cr-1W ODS steel with Ti and Y2 O3 additions would be very effective in improving the mechanical properties especially at elevated temperatures.

In the present paper, elemental Fe, Cr and Ni powders were used to fabricate nano-structured duplex and ferritic stainless steel powders by using high energy planetary ball milling. We have studied the effect of milling atmosphere like wet (toluene) and dry (argon) milling of elemental Fe-18Cr-13Ni (duplex) and Fe-17Cr-1Ni (ferritic) powders for 10 h in a dual drive planetary mill. Stearic acid of 1wt.% was added during milling to avoid agglomeration. The dry and wet milled duplex and ferritic stainless steel powders were characterized by XRD, SEM and particle size analysis techniques. We have found that both the milling atmospheres have great influence in controlling the final particle morphology, size and phase evolution during milling. It was reported that dry milling is more effective in reducing particle size than the wet milling. The Nelson-Riley method of extrapolation was used to calculate the precise lattice parameter and Williamson-Hall method was used to calculate the crystallite size and lattice strain of both the stainless steel milled in argon atmosphere. Dry milled duplex and ferritic stainless steel were then consolidated by conventional sintering method at 1100, 1200 and 1300°C temperatures under argon atmosphere for 1 hour.

The paper presents the results of research on the microstructure of GX2CrNiMoCuN25-6-3-3 and GX2CrNiMoCuN25-6-3 cast steels with a varying carbon content. The cause for undertaking the research were technological problems with hot cracking in bulk castings of duplex cast steel with a carbon content of approx. 0.06% and with 23% Cr, 8.5% Ni, 3% Mo and 2.4% Cu. The research has shown a significant effect of increased carbon content on the ferrite and austenite microstructure morphology, while exceeding the carbon content of 0.06% results in a change of the shape of primary grains from equiaxial to columnar.

High-alloy corrosion-resistant ferritic-austenitic steels and cast steels are a group of high potential construction materials. This is evidenced by the development of new alloys both low alloys grades such as the ASTM 2101 series or high alloy like super or hyper duplex series 2507 or 2707 [1-5]. The potential of these materials is also presented by the increasing frequency of sintered components made both from duplex steel powders as well as mixtures of austenitic and ferritic steels [6, 7]. This article is a continuation of the problems presented in earlier works [5, 8, 9] and its inspiration were technological observed problems related to the production of duplex cast steel. The analyzed AISI A3 type cast steel is widely used in both wet exhaust gas desulphurisation systems in coal fired power plants as well as in aggressive working environments. Technological problems such as hot cracking presented in works [5, 8], with are effects of the rich chemical composition and phenomena occurring during crystallization, must be known to the technologists. The presented in this work phenomena which occur during the crystallization and cooling of ferritic-austenitic cast steel were investigated using numerical methods with use of the ThermoCalc and FactSage® software, as well with use of experimental thermal-derivative analysis.

The objective of this work was to expand the knowledge on mechanical properties of the oxidized Crofer 22 APU Ferritic Stainless Steel. To examine adhesion of oxide scale formed on steel the scratch test was performed. Scratch test as an appropriate method for qualitative evaluation of the film adhesion to substrate has been used in many studies. Scratch properties were investigated before and after oxidation at 800°C for 500 hours in laboratory air.
Celem niniejszej pracy było poszerzenie wiedzy o mechanicznych właściwościach ferrytycznej stali Crofer 22 APU po procesie wysokotemperaturowego utleniania. Pomiary właściwości mechanicznych utworzonej warstwy tlenkowej wykonano metodą zarysowania – scratch testu. Test zarysowania jast najpopularniejszą metodą badania wytrzymałości połączenia powłoki z podłożem. Badania prowadzono na materiale w stanie wyjściowym oraz po utlenianiu przez 500 godzin w temperaturze 800°C – typowych warunkach pracy ogniwa paliwowego typu SOFC.

The dissimilar welds of AISI 304 to AISI 430 stainless steel was investigated by using gas tungsten arc welding. Three filler metals including ER309L, ER316L and ER2594 were applied. The weakest region of the welds was the heat affected zone of 430 stainless steel due to the formation of martensite. Also, the wide grain growth zone was observed in this side. The ferrite number for type 309L, 316L and 2594 weld metals was about 15, 32 and 57, respectively. The hardness and tensile strength values of the weld metals were higher than that of the heat affected zones and the base metals. The ferrite presented higher hardness values than the austenite in type 316L and 309L joints; while the hardness of austenite and ferrite was comparable in type 2594 weld metal.

Opis:
The ferritic AL453 steel is one of potential metallic interconnect materials for intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells. However, the evaporation of chromium from the chromia scale formed on this steel and the increasing thickness of this scale result in the slow deterioration in the electrical properties of the interconnect’s elements. In order to improve fuel cell efficiency, the surface of the interconnect material was modified by applying a protective-conducting Mn1.5Co1.5O4spinel coating. Thermal and electrical tests of the La0.8Sr0.2FeO3 cathode - AL453/ Mn1.5Co1.5O4 interconnect system at 1073 K for 200 hrs in air confirmed the effectiveness of the spinel layers as a means of stopping chromium diffusion from the AL453 steel and inhibiting oxidation, while at the same time promoting electrical contact and minimizing cathode-interconnect interfacial resistance.
Jednym z potencjalnych materiałów na metaliczne interkonektory do stałotlenkowych ogniw paliwowych typu IT-SOFC jest stal ferrytyczna AL453.Wzwiązku z parowaniem chromu z powierzchni ochronnej zgorzeliny tlenku chromu oraz wzrostem jej grubości następuje pogorszenie właściwości elektrycznych interkonektora. W celu poprawy wydajności ogniwa paliwowego, stosuje się modyfikacje interkonektor polegającą na nakładaniu na jego powierzchni ochronno-przewodzącej powłoki spinelu Mn1.5Co1.5O4. Przeprowadzone testy termiczne i elektryczne układu katoda La0.8Sr0.2FeO3- interkonektor AL453/ Mn1.5Co1.5O4w 1073 K przez 200 godz. w powietrzu potwierdziły wysoką efektywność powłoki spinelowej jako bariery zaporowej dla dyfuzji chromu ze stali AL453 oraz jej utleniania co w efekcie prowadzi do spadku oporu elektrycznego na interfejsach układu katoda-interkonektor.

The microstructure and corrosion properties of spark plasma sintered yttria dispersed and yttria free duplex and ferritic stainless samples were studied. Spark plasma sintering (SPS) was carried out at 1000°C by applying 50 MPa pressure with holding time of 5 minutes. Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) tests were employed to evaluate pitting corrosion resistance of the samples. Corrosion studies were carried out in 0.5, 1 and 2 M concentration of NaCl and H2SO4solutions at different quiet time of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 seconds. Yttria dispersed stainless steel samples show more resistance to corrosion than yttria free stainless steel samples. Pitting potential decreases with increase in reaction time from 2 to 10 seconds. Similarly, as concentration of NaCl and H2SO4 increases from 0.5 M to 2 M the corrosion resistance decrements due to the availability of more Cl¯ and SO42¯ ions at higher concentration.

The gas metal arc is widely used in manufacturing industries because of the high metal deposition rate and ease of automation with better weld quality at permissible cost than other welding processes in joining similar and dissimilar metals. AISI 430 steel is normally difficult to weld by melting methods, due to the associated problems such as grain growth. For this purpose, AISI 430 ferritic stainless steel couples of 10 mm thick were welded by the synergic controlled pulsed (GMAW-P) and manual gas metal arc (GMAW) welding techniques. The interface appearances of the welded specimens were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Structural changes in the weld zone were analysed by energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (X-RD). Microhardness, notch charpy and tensile tests were conducted to determine the mechanical properties of specimens. Accordingly, the best result was obtained from the GMAW-P technique.
Spawanie elektrodą topliwą w osłonie gazów aktywnych jest szeroko stosowane w przemyśle wytwórczym, ze względu na wysokie tempo osadzania metalu i łatwość automatyzacji oraz lepszą jakości spoiny przy dopuszczalnych kosztach niż w wypadku innych procesów spawania podobnych i różnych metali. Stal AISI 430 jest trudna do spawania metodami nadtapiania (z elektrodą nietopliwą), ze względu na związane z nimi problemy takie jak wzrost ziarna. Elementy ze stali ferrytycznej AISI 430 o grubości 10 mm zostały zespawane techniką GMAW-P i GMAW. Do badania morfologii spawanych próbek wykorzystano metodę skaningowej mikroskopii elektronowej (SEM). Zmiany strukturalne w strefie spoiny analizowano metodą spektrometrii z dyspersją energii (EDS) i dyfrakcji rentgenowskiej (X-RD). Pomiary mikrotwardości, udamości i próby rozciągania przeprowadzono w celu określenia właściwości mechanicznych próbek. Stwierdzono, że najlepszy wynik uzyskano dla spoin wytworzonych techniką GMAW-P.

In this study, ODS ferritic stainless steels were fabricated using a commercial alloy powder, and their microstructures and mechanical properties were studied to develop the advanced structural materials for high temperature service applications. Mechanical alloying and uniaxial hot pressing processes were employed to produce the ODS ferritic stainless steels. It was revealed that oxide particles in the ODS stainless steels were composed of Y-Si-O, Y-Ti-Si-O, and Y-Hf-Si-O complex oxides were observed depending on minor alloying elements, Ti and Hf. The ODS ferritic stainless steel with a Hf addition presented ultra-fine grains with uniform distributions of fine complex oxide particles which located in grains and on the grain boundaries. These favorable microstructures led to superior tensile properties than commercial stainless steel and ODS ferritic steel with Ti addition at elevated temperature.

Opis:
The oxidation kinetics of forged 12Cr-MoVW steel was investigated in an air (N2+O2) atmosphere at 873-1073 K (Δ50 K) using thermogravimetric analysis. The oxidized samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction, and the surface and cross-sectional morphologies were examined using scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The forged 12Cr-MoVW steel samples exhibited parabolic behavior and a low oxidation rate compared with their as-cast counterparts. A protective oxide layer was uniformly formed at relatively low temperature (≤973 K) for the forged samples, which thus exhibited better oxidation resistance than the as-cast ones. These oxides are considered solid-solution compounds such as (Fe, Cr)2O3.
